ZNAP in Technic ?
DrJB replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Only the flex shafts? .... How about the plastic parts as well? BTW, the shafts are 'solid' in one direction only. I broke 3 of them when I tried to spin the opposite direction. Essentially the coiled wire unscrews itself from the plastic, especially during high torque. -
I have seen few GBCs contraptions that use a mix of both snap and technic and yet, within EB, there is hardly any mention of znap. Granted znap is no longer made/sold but it has some interesting parts and one can make large structures more 'effectively' than with Technic ... Any thoughts on this or, are you aware of mixed znap/technic MOCs ?

GBC General Discussion
DrJB replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Few days ago, there was a new thread for a self-contained GBC that used the large pink slide from friends. I cannot find that thread. Anyone recalls where it is?- 1,124 replies

Thank you Elias, the more I look at the workings in the video, the more fascinating it is. Outstanding job, and thank you for sharing. Greetings from Chicago, where we're starting to get some snow ...

There might be videos on youtube from that same event. If you can figure out which Lego event it was, then we may have a chance.- 1,124 replies

Very difficult to see how the machine is built and guess how it works. If you have a video, it might be easier to reverse-engineer the mechanism.- 1,124 replies

[HELP] From LXF to Stepped Instructions
DrJB replied to DrJB's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thank you ... looks like I have some exploring/learning to do over the holidays. -
Again, nicely done ... especially considering is the work of a single individual. I can't help but ponder at the process of building this entire project. How do you even get started? 1. Did you do some digital model first or started directly with plastic? 2. Is this designed after a real station (if so which one) or fairly generic? I must say that here in the US, we have very few of those and not too familiar with how they work ... nonetheless a very fascinating feat of lego engineering.

Technic Sets/MOCs without Tires
DrJB replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Here is a thought, there were the Ferris Wheel and Merry-Go-Round sets few years ago ... and none of them were under Technic ... Maybe Model team would have been a better fit, but both sets used building techniques/parts primarily from classical tiles/plates ... whereas the build might have been more interesting if they used primarily technic parts ... unless the Lego designers themselves (for city/else) are not yet fully versed in the technic abilities ... kinda like an architect vs. a civil engineer ... form vs. function. -
Have you bought any of the 2014 Sets?
DrJB replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I 'finally' got both 42029 (red truck) and 42025 (white plane) ... really pleased with the number/selection of parts in the truck and the construction of the front axle (by use of a square frame). -

Your Best Technic Bargains

Last year, I got a megalot from eBay ... with over 40+ sets (28 lbs) from Mars Mission, Exo-Force, Bionicle, StarWars, and PowerMiners ... all for $42, and plenty of technic parts. -
Nicely done. There was a telepherique put together by a group of AFOLs few years back, was that related to yours? http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=91533

General Part Discussion
DrJB replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It is not just for looks ... with the old design, you could push a thin knife to get the pin out, and such feature they've implemented in many technic parts. Also, the new design seems to use MORE plastic. You're right, not sure what the logic is.- 5,504 replies

I was hesitant at first but then decided to get the red truck. I must reckon I'm pleasantly surprised. Th variety and sheer number of technic parts is one of a kind. If you have not already, this is a must have set. I also saw a couple of parts that have been absent from technic for many years. Oh yes, and for those of you 'detail oriented', there is one inconsistency. The manual shows the old engine block (with slot) whereas the actual parts are from new molds i.e., without the slot. It's time to replenish suspension and everything red parts. This makes it a very welcome addition to any collection.

That is for sure very ingenious ... but ... how about a 3D printed intersection ?

I thought I could build anything from an LXF file .... This MOC proved me wrong. If you've built it ... then it's fair to assume it's doable because, as you may have seen, there are many 'impossible' builds as evidenced in a couple of threads. -

[HELP] From LXF to Stepped Instructions
DrJB replied to DrJB's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thank you Guys ... I did the trick of breaking up the model into various groups ... but that only works up to a given point. The real issue is that the build style is rather 'complex' and rather dense and truly 3-dimensional. I know there is no simple answer and this is going to take some time. I guess no software out there has enough smarts to do step-by-step instructions ... and I reckon this not 'trivial'.
