  1. Case in point ... I just bought 42029 off eBay. That set is an excellent assortment of 'good' parts, both suspension and red panels.
  2. If it's supply and demand, wouldn't TLG be interested in making/selling special/universal packs with all the rare pieces? I have hard time 'understanding' that there is a need/market for this out there, and yet the only ones making $$$ are speculators ... Can't Lego Ambassadors (on this forum) make a point with TLG and see where this takes us? Obviously, TLG has got nothing to lose ... but only make AFOLs even happier.
  3. Not sure if I should blame globalization for this but, in recent years, some parts now command ludicrous prices (on Bricklink). I can name the various suspension arms and shock absorbers ... but really, I somehow feel this is pure speculation as opposed to supply/demand. What's your take/perspective, and how do you see this affect our hobby?
  4. Nice MOC, Are you aware of a technic disk 2958 that would fit better in a disk brake?
  5. Kind of reminds me of my son, when I got him the EV3 set ... he was always into building intruder detectors that he'd lace next to his bedroom's door ... and whenever his younger sister would step into his room, an alarm would sound.
  6. I have few of those as well but I (personally) do not consider them technic ... They are for poseable figures such as Bionicle and Factory ... kinda like if you like building dolls out of Lego, then those are the parts for you :).
  7. Every now and then a set comes out that is both a good set, and also an awesome collection of parts. 8258 is such set, it is a great truck, but also an outstanding collection of parts (I do know, I bought 3 sets ... 2 are still boxed) ... Also, some of the bionicle sets offer a good assortment of technic parts (Axalara, Scopio, ...) and ever now and then you can find them for cheap on ebay. Scopio has so many track elements. If you live in the US, Toys-R-Us is now selling 9398 for $170, which is less than the list price of $200. Not many people care for the colors of 9398, but it has a large assortment of PowerFunctions. Also, the EV3 expansion kit (for $100 from Lego Education) is a very good/cheap assortment of parts as well.
  8. My first thought for a title was: 'Useless Technic Parts', but let's not be too negative. In any event, the topic is: What parts do you have many of, and no matter how hard you've tried, you can't use them in any MOC. Of course many of the Bionicle parts qualify, but let us stick to strictly Technic. The two I can think of are the rubber band holders, and I do have a large collection of those. Anything else?
  9. I'd rephrase ... and ultimately they can will cease to work.
  10. Very impressive build ... One question though (apologies if it has been asked already). Why such custom wheels? Are you planning some third party tires?
  11. Thank you very much JunkstyleGio ... I had totally forgotten about this thread. Looks very nice indeed.
  12. They are two different parts (of course). On one of them you can insert the ball pin only from one side, on the other you can insert from both sides. I use whatever I have in my collection but I prefer the later model as it is more versatile.
  13. In place of full instructions ... would LDR/MPD files be ultimately available? Granted ... all of this pending authors' 'blessings'.
  14. Strictly speaking, it's hypoid gear set, and that has nothing to do with how the differential works. It is just a way to push the drive-shaft lower than the car's floor. It was other advantages though and yet, hypoid gears are a cross between regular and worm gears where the meshing is accompanied by friction/sliding as well ...
  15. A bit difficult to understand what the issue is ... can you elaborate a little more?
  16. Congrats for an epic build. I'm curious though as to who 'first' used the 2L rubber liftarm as a track element. I though it was mahjqa, and since then prices have gone up on bricklink. Anyone knows for sure?
  17. You sure have a good eye ... for catching this :)
  18. Thank you BlakBird, that is a 'commendable' initiative. If anything at all, that book might increase the sales' traffic on bricklink ... Now, is it fair to assume that ALL of those digital models were actually built in real life?
  19. A 'sister' site said it will ... but I can't find any reference to it. What gives? http://www.technicbr...murcielago.html BTW: This MOC deserves a place in the Hall-Of-Fame, doesn't it? Edit: Darn, I should've read the whole post first ... That's an Aprils's fool ... and I fell for it. The vehicle does qualify for the HOF though, still!
  20. I kind of guessed that ... the vehicle has way too many differentials to accomplish all the functions (i.e., too much friction and slack) That link is not correct ... it points to a store in Australia ... :(
  21. In fact, driving on a smooth (with good traction) surface with a locked center differential is a very bad idea. It can not only damage the vehicle. but may also cause stability issues as part of the tractive force (in the footprint tire/road interface) is used not to control the vehicle, but to counteract the other tires ... In principle, this situation could be alleviated with a 'smart' TCS (Traction Control System)... but that's another discussion.
  22. Thank you BlakBird ... along with holnomic platforms, that car is a must-build (to me at least). Are you aware if instructions exist, even partial?
  23. Does it need to be geared or can you simply use ropes/strings and pully ... motor spinds one way to lift gate, and gravity does the trick to lower the gate. You can use a crank mechanism where rotation gets transformed into translation ... check Akiyuki's multiple GBC designs for inspiration.
  24. I knew that already :) ... for, if you got an original sealed box power puller, it came with a VHS tape that talks about the PP in competitions. Yes, a real vehicle indeed.
