[MOC] Minifig-scale B-Wing (with instructions and LDD)
BrickG replied to krispy's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Good B-Wing. Better than the official stuff which kind of sucks (B-Wing is the worst represented ship IMO outside of the UCS). I really hope we get a normal minifigure scale B-Wing. I don't have most of the parts to build this.- 125 replies

The more I think of it the more I think I'll skip it. It's better than I thought it would be but I'm just not into "playsets". I like models. I feel like the second I started making real money they stopped all the great model sets :P.

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
BrickG replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
It's until like the 25th so you have plenty of time. -
I think the set looks good. It's about $100 too expensive though. I'm not sure it'll have the sticking power compared to some of the more iconic expensive sets. Me too. It seems ridiculous to me that Chewie is still using the same incredibly undetailed barely printed mold! He's about a half a decade overdue for a redesign. That said I like how Leia isn't using a stupid brick for her dress.

[MOC] Stanetech-based War Machine [Cybernetic James Rhodey]
BrickG replied to becauseBATMAN's topic in LEGO Licensed
Ridiculous story line but great moc. -
Actually the rich ones do not have to work and can live off the interest easily :P. When you're filthy rich you simply don't have to work (but a lot choose to for various reasons). In fact if you could get about 4 million $$$ here in the US you could live off like 80k interest a year easily! Anyways lulz good fun moc. :P Makes me with I had a good amount of windows so I could actually make buildings! The stuff I buy never has them.

Investing in LEGO: how long until I break even, make profit?
BrickG replied to BrickG's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well most hobbies are probably cheaper than rich people hobbies :P. I'm mainly talking about just using Lego to finance my Lego hobby. I wouldn't go for sizeable profits. Just if I made any they'd probably go straight to the Lego hobby. Lego is pretty expensive (kind of useless comparing it to sports cars and stuff :P) and it would be nice if it at least paid for itself. I'm not made out of money. -
It's sad that if this rumor is true I'm the most excited for the baseplate :P.

Investing in LEGO: how long until I break even, make profit?
BrickG replied to BrickG's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well by my calculations for each set I buy and open up for myself I'd need to eventually sell 1-2 versions of that set post-retirement to make the money back. Taxes would take away a chunk of the profits but that might be taken care of if I only buy sets on sale. I'm not saying I'd buy 1-2 extras of each set I want. I'm just using that example for easy math :P. I'd end up investing in sets I think would sell well after they were retired. Meaning for each $100 I spend on Legos for myself I'd spend an additional $100-200 as an investment on other stuff that would theoretically sell for 2x or more on average 2 years down the road (or much sooner if I snipe sets as they're about to retire). If I save enough on sales the taxes won't bit me in the bum much and buying 2 sets, keeping one and selling another should theoretically pay for themselves. 3 sets and if I choose the sets well I'd be in profits for further Lego expansion hobbies :P. But I'd need to spend a big chunk of money and would likely not see that paid back for quite some time. Idunno if I'm not taking into account something but by my math, if I choose sets well I'd need to buy up to 3 (keep one, sell 2) to break even or make a tiny bit of profit. (again using the same sets as an example, I wouldn't literally buy 3 of each set I want, just of ones I think are good investments). However for the first few years the profits wouldn't be much at all as I wait for enough of my sets to retire and also sell. I don't know if I'm way off base here. It would seem to be a somewhat safe investment (unless Lego crashes like I suggest in another thread) but take a good while to actually break even and longer to pay off :P. Unless I went with buying an absurd amount which I don't want them to be a second job :P. -
spoilers: I was hoping the Kraang Prime would be at least a bit like the old Kraang but it's got the voice actor Roseanne Barr. Not giving me hope :P.

So I'm heavily considering buying enough to break even with my expensive hobby. The hobby is just too expensive to do otherwise! So... in your guy's experience how long did it take until you started at least breaking even and using the funds to also pay for future sets? Of course you need to start with a set influx. Then you usually have to wait for your sets to retire (or snipe them just before they do). You make sure you buy sets that will be popular (some are obvious like the Falcon, others are not). Idunno I just want to buy sets, buy multiples (especially of Star Wars, LotR, etc) and finance my own collection. Then start selling them but that part usually takes a few years! What has your experience been like? I have more than enough $$$ to start up the process but I'm not sure when it'll start giving back, or even start funding the original buys. If there's one set that'll sell at a high price in the future will it take 2ish sets to break even (one for playing with, another for selling) or more? bleep bloop

Lego Marvel Superheroes Game Announced
BrickG replied to MattZitron's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
Yeah, after years of no lego games I tried DC Super Heroes. It's okay... I guess. I also got it for like 7.50 or something as a Steam deal. The thing glitched on me half a dozen times requiring me to restart a level. The game gets grindy after you beat it and want to unlock the rest of the stuff. My older self doesn't have the patience or cares to do that. Scavenger hunts no longer work for me. I want that minifigure but... :( -
Unless they pull out some amazing Xbox One EXCLUSIVES (meaning not going to the PC either which most Xbox exclusives end up doing) and a lot of them at this point I'll go PS4 if I have to choose between the two. Already have a WiiU (not very good yet but Smash Bros and Zelda later...).
-
Generally sentiments and nostalgia aside usually the newer of version of anything is better. I can't think of any newer minifigures that don't get better over time not counting nostalgia and sentiments. Though sometimes when there's a drastic change in style (Clone Wars) it's simply a matter of taste. The latest Vader is the best. I don't really count the medal Vader as the same line. However the DAMAGED Vader was cool, arguably cooler but again, it's not exactly the "same" minifigure since it's battle damage.

How to find non-official Lego hobby shops?
BrickG replied to BrickG's topic in General LEGO Discussion
No. I mean is there a better way to FIND these stores, no matter your location? Google just comes up with the regular stores like Walmart, Target, Kmart, whatever your chains are in your area. I'm interested in the smaller stores. The non-chains that often specialize in Lego to some extent. Hobby shops and stuff. I can find no way to reliably find these shops besides dumb luck. :P -
I'd like a minifigure of the Doctor... or droid d00d from that episode...

This again? Simply put using currency conversion as the motivation behind complaints of cost inequality is dumb. There's a lot more factors than that. Austrailia vs the US for example. Probably the most common one I personally see. Australians continually complaining because their stuff is so expensive based on nothing but direct conversion of currency. There are tons of reasons why their crap is more expensive and people often ignore them and ignore all economic reasoning. In this example you could go deep into the reasoning for hours but I'll just bring up some of the obvious factors. 1) Australia's minimum wage AND median wage is about double of what people in the US make. They get about twice as much money on average. So what does this do? It raises the prices! 2) Australia has a lot more government benefits than the US which for a developed country has very very few. Get sick in Australia? Probably won't go bankrupt. Get sick here? Probably will :P. 3) In Australia's case there are high shipping costs. Australia is a large country/continent that's sparse and out of the way. The USA is kind of out of the way too but the population and population density is so much higher than Australia that it makes up for any extra costs of transportation. Anyways, you guys are more talking about the differences between European countries. And trust me, more often than not there are very real economic reasons for the price differences. They're NOT arbitrary. If you can go across a border to get cheaper Legos then do that. But don't think there's no reason it's more expensive somewhere else. There usually is. From shipping to population density to local economies to any number of reasons...

I'm talking old sets. Investors are investing in Lego more and more. Collecting items and storing them for future profits. It's in the news a lot these days and you hear about it all the time now. People buying tons of sets for later resale. With some sets like the Millennium Falcon UCS going for over 4x the original cost it's attracted a lot of attention. I'm wondering if future sets will see such a high rise in value. I mean the issue with stuff like this is when people realize something is a good investment then sometimes waaay too many begin investing in it like those stuffed animals. Will we see more modern lego sets simply not go up that drastically in price? Will there be a "crash" of sorts? Will the prices be as insane as they've been? Lego does have one thing helping it out, people who buy this stuff tend to want to open the boxes :P. I've just been looking at the history of Lego sets and it just seems like a pretty darned safe investment. Give the sets a few years and their value just goes insane sometimes (especially Star Wars :P). I'd consider investing but... first off I hate gambling. Also I see over-saturating happening in the future. Maybe I'm wrong. And even if the do take lower will it be THAT much lower (maybe 2x the price instead of 3x the price, something like that).

How to find non-official Lego hobby shops?

No I'm talking about small probably not chains hobby stores. -
8038 however honestly I don't really like any of them that much. There's scale issues. You have to fit 2 pilots side by side. However Lego people are so fat and deformed I'm not sure you could pull it off without making the AT-ST deformed. Either too tall or too wide :P.

I wish the E-Wing wasn't black. I want a standard one. Anyways I've recently bought the X-Wing, Y-Wing, A-Wing and Tie Fighters. In order form impressiveness and accuracy I think it's.. 1) A-Wing 2) Y-Wing (might be 1 had it came with landing gear I have to MOC on) 3) Tie Fighter (I don't really like it's front window) 4) X-Wing (The cockpit isn't accurate at all) Then I also got the Rancor pit. The build sucks but I'm not sure anyone buys that for anything but the Rancor.
-
I can't imagine this Ewok Village set being that good. Paying for a bunch of trees and tree huts and a small army of Ewoks? I hope it comes with an AT-ST or something.
-
I hope the next theoretical wave has some builds that are more interesting. All these TMNT builds are being broken up by me. Love the minifigures. The builds? Even with the great show supporting this stuff I'm still kind of bored by every single build ultimately. I know it's not based on the new stuff but I'd kill for a Technodrome or something a bit more iconic. I'm doubting any of these current vehicles will be viewed as iconic 'cause honestly they're pretty ugly (I've not seen much praise over the new "van" for instance, nobody seems to care about the vehicles in this incarnation). :)

Ewoks seem like something that should be reserved for cheap sets since they're not that popular. Arg just give me another 10179!

How do you make Mr. Fantastic's powers in Lego?
