LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
BrickG replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This has become very commercialized. I think non-franchise sets will probably have an incredibly tough time making it all the way at this point. I mean why pick the riskier choices when you can do something that's pretty much 100% going to sell decent like Portal? As neat as some of these things like the Birds are... it's the franchises that sell the most, most of the time. -
Manbat just seems like a cheap way they could use existing pieces to give us a character few actually care about. I'd much rather see other stable Batman villains like Clayface...

I wish his hat had the green hair too. Getting kind of sick of random sudden baldness. Yeah, it would limit it's use for custom stuff but most of us aren't going to use it on a non-Joker anyways. :P I do wish it was a more new design like the Arkham Joker or Dark Knight Returns Joker.

Well I'll be getting that Batgirl. I'm still wondering where my Green Lantern is (make it Jon Stewart).

Star Trek is probably not nearly enough of a lucrative toy business for Lego to even be interested in. It's not the 90s anymore. Without a series to support them and with this last movie being split on the love I fear it won't happen. Doctor Who too. It would do great in the UK but outside the UK there's just not much of a market.
-
I have the motorized one. It walks like an idiot but was fun for about 30 seconds. This one looks better for display.

Considering the people in the Star Wars universe aren't from and don't even know of the UK I would consider it completely fine that their accents aren't perfect...

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
BrickG replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
I wouldn't care for a Technodrome based on the new series. It's not iconic and kind of plain. I suppose there's just about no chance of doing the classic Technodrone. Some people aren't attracted to fake, extreme plastic surgery and caked on makeup. -
I think potentially he could be a very valuable asset if he works... on a team. His best work has been with him in a TEAM. His worst is when he's a team of ONE and just fires everyone who disagrees and expects everyone to kiss his butt as happened with the prequels, everyone raving about his genius and not being willing or able to stand up to him without probably hurting their career. But I don't see him doing that. He's basically retired and focusing on doing as much good as he can with that $4 billion he got. He's a decent d00d, loved what he did with that land turning into low cost apartments lol. But he's not going to do anything and if he was it's unlikely he'd be willing to be a team player.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion

I'd usually agree and think your comment is reasonable however this is Micheal Bay. He's probably the most terrible movie making in recent history. The only reason movies like Transformers do well is because lucky for him a lot of the masses are idiots. You 100% can judge Micheal Bays movies without seeing them. They're made by a stupid person for stupid people. They're the lowest common denominator. Ninja Turtles: Bay Edition has no chance. -
I feel this is probably the worst Star Wars advent set in a while. Maybe if Jango's helmet actually matched. Idunno it just seems more boring.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
BrickG replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
Have the official images for the Micheal Bay turtles been shown? I doubt they'd be incompatible with the current heads but maybe. I'd imagine they'd be in an entirely different style, probably ugly like the Transformers which were a mess of metal. I wouldn't count out new molds for potentially the heads and back if the style is THAT much different. -
Can't say I agree that Lucas should still be involved. The prequels were such a mess. Indiana Jones 4 was such a mess. Like Speilberg he hasn't made anything good in decades. That said I'm not sure who can handle Star Wars... JJ? Maaaaybe... but again, he's hit and miss and has never made anything nearly as big. The Toy Story 3 writers? Wat? Idunno... hope for the best, prepare for the worst!

As much as I appreciate George Lucas giving us the original trilogy... the prequel trilogy is just crap. I'd LOVE to see it replaced. However I'm not sure who the heck would be up for the task and it's just plain not happening. They've got too much invested in stuff like Clone Wars and that new series coming up. The Sequel Trilogy has me open minded but I'm doubting it'll be as good as the original trilogy (I mean you can't possibly match how historic it was). I'm also doubting JJ. He's so hit and miss. Like Star Trek 2009, big hit. Star Trek Into Darkess... yeah I guess it got decent reviews but I'd call it a miss as it didn't review nearly as well. That movie was so ridiculously filled with tributes. I didn't know you could have too many. I really HOPE the new Star Wars isn't a large tribute with basically the same stuff happening. And I really hope the next Star TREK is actually original and doesn't tribute up the butt quite so much. I mean, wow... I had no idea you could go too far with that. Tributes can be very cool... That didn't happen here... Hope JJ learned his lesson.

I bought a 5 about a month ago for travelling. It does just fine. It is my first smart phone and I feel no need to upgrade until it's useless.

Amazon doesn't deal with the shipping. That's UPS or whatever you use. They simply package it and hand it over. Unless your shipping info was wrong I don't see how they could sent it to the wrong house.
-
I still like Amazon. The vast majority of people do not care if the box is crushed as long as the stuff inside is fine. I open most all of my Lego though. I've gotten damaged boxed Lego from them several times but the Lego inside is pretty durable and never broken.
-
The whole 3d damaging kid eyeballs is an annoying myth that a lot of companies will put warnings for "just in case". And you can't be too young to use the 3d functionality....

I assume nothing since you're here. Or maybe you entered a dark age. Anyways, my life was supposed to slow down. Long story short it sped up and I got more successful than I would have thought. I have no time for my Lego hobby these days. I might even be moving to another country pretty soon and I doubt I could take my collection with me. That coupled with priorities. Lego just isn't one as much as I like it. This is due to everything that's happening in my life right now (highly mobile time where I don't know what's going to happen next). So I'm facing probably giving up Lego. I might try to stick with minifigures and minifigure customization but I just have no time at all and if this work I'm doing becomes any more successful (not that I'm rich or anything) I might never have time. So I'm thinking Lego is ended for me. Maybe besides the "must have" set. Or maybe even them...

Shapeways.com... any good for custom Lego pieces?
BrickG replied to BrickG's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm actually fairly impressed. It's closer than I thought. If I knew what I was doing I could probably smooth it out more and and color it to make it look pretty darned good. Something I noticed is I was more impressed with pieces with less detailing. I basically got several Lego Zelda items in different materials. I'm tired and just got back from a trip so I'll keep it brief but the Master Sword in a few materials looked very good with only a few needs to address some roughness (not much to the naked eye, but photographs with their zoom I'm sure can pick up the roughness easier). High detail items like the Hylian Shield where the whole face is textured aren't nearly as effective. If the models are kept simple (what Lego shield has that much texture anyways?) I think there's a lot of hope. Now I'd just need to find out how to smooth them out a tiny bit more and paint them properly (without a brush, maybe dyes...). -
Spend a few thousand on Lego sets them show her the receipts.

At the time of Airbender's showing it was more popular. Ratings are everything. Doctor Who has not ever reached those ratings in markets that matter. And saying the USA isn't everything is true. But it's a LOT. A freakin' lot. The fact of the matter is, as much as I'd LOVE Doctor Who sets myself... it's not the best business decision. I'm not saying it would do terribly. I'm saying there are other franchises that would sell a lot better and to more of the world. :P I hope they release Doctor Who sets some day. Maybe when the upcoming reboot happens they'll grab the license. If it happened I'd say that is when.
-
No way. It's not THAT popular here in the US. It's simply more popular than it used to be. Comparing the popularity to like the UK and it's only a fraction. I'd also argue that there's significantly less merchandising potential. "If they can do Airbender as Lego"? Airbender got over 5mil in ratings here. Doctor Who just passed 1.5mil. Assuming my sources are right (wiki :P)... In the UK Doctor Who could peak at 16 million in the 80s. But the new series got around 10 million. The UK has about 62 million population. Like 1 in 6 people watched some Doctor Who episodes (that seems insane). In the US the ratings are about 1.5 million. The US has a population of about 313 million. 1 in 200ish people watched it here. That should show you the large gap in popularity between countries ;p. I'm not sure a Doctor Who series of sets would actually do that well here. You can't find Doctor Who toys anywhere but the odd stores like Barnes and Nobels (forget ToysRus and stuff). It's just... much less popular.

Which is why it's terrible. Higher casting cost or drawback? Can't stay competitive if I'm limited to that and "pay to win" gameplay. My games almost every time simply went down to who spent more money on MTG. MTG in the end is a game about insane card combos and if you don't own them you won't win. I had my own combos. I was feared. But my collection was so limited the number of combos I could pull off was not high. Eventually people adapted to my limited strategies. I, being a poor college student at the time, couldn't afford more cards so couldn't really do much else. A few different variations of similar things but eventually people know what to expect. I simply didn't own enough cards to keep on surprising people. Then there's the whole issue that they keep making newer cards better and better (not counting the really early cards). I just couldn't keep up. I now prefer strategy games where the playing field is even.

Doctor Who isn't happening. Character Building has the license. Lego has commented as such with the Doctor Who Cuusoos that have come and gone. A rival company has the license and I doubt they'll give it up any time soon. Plus there's the whole issue that it's probably not financially viable outside of the UK and perhaps some of Europe. Yeah, Doctor Who has more attention in places like the US these days than ever before but it's not like they can sell the toys everywhere around here.
