  1. This article raises a lot of concerns I have with female minifigure representation. Yay @ more females, Boo@ too much narrow manifestation of gender specificity http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2014/07/16/lego-female-scientists-waistlines_n_5590560.html It's a play issue as much as it is a representation one, in that 'femaled' hourglass torsos have a more limited use, but it's also about what makes it female. Old cartoons suggest blush cheeks, big eyelashes and a bow in the hair made any character female. Even Chima figures which are anthropomorphised animals have 'hourglass' figures for females, the Collectable Minifig Alien Queen had lipstick to go with her see-through head, and don't even get me started on the 'Lady Robot' and her breast dials...
  2. the Greenpeace campaign is calling for an end to the *existing* and *current* partnership between Lego and Shell, and Shell's unsuitability as a partner ... it's not about Shell-branded stable doors from yesteryear, or what the ingredients of the bricks are.
  3. For those following this story... Time Magazine article: http://time.com/2976549/this-is-why-people-are-so-upset-at-lego/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=post&utm_term=Lego,time&utm_campaign=Polar&__surl__=Ig0CO&__ots__=1405330015945&__step__=1 Interview with the team behind the video: http://www.directorsnotes.com/2014/07/11/martin-sterling-directs-this-powerful-message-to-lego-in-greenpeace-promo-lego-everything-is-not-awesome/
  4. Getting the video taken down was a dumb move. But the good news is, it's already back up! As you were... #BlockShell
  5. Eh? http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2012/aug/24/greenpeace-activists-arctic-oil-russia http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/05/27/us-norway-oil-greenpeace-idUSKBN0E70TV20140527 http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/blog/climate/breaking-greenpeace-nordic-intercepts-shell-ship-again-20120503
  6. Well TLG are happy for their products to officially be used to promote Shell, the Daily Mail and the Sun... but those are whole 'nother threads. It's interesting to me how a little bit of politics on here is rounded on. Worth remembering TLG's stated commitments on partners, the environment and the future, which is all Greenpeace is trying to get them to square. Which doesn't seem all that radical or unreasonable to me.
  7. High quality debate there. Feel free to check out the spec on the only purpose-built Greenpeace ship: http://www.theguardian.com/environment/interactive/2011/nov/10/greenpeace-rainbow-warrior-3-interactive Anyways, still stands that Shell aren't worthy partners for Lego.
  8. How about they already do? But the Arctic is all of our backyards collectively.
  9. Okay, so I might not be the most objective commentator here, but yes, we absolutely should hold up a company on it's ethics. That includes who it gets into deals with. I'm not suggesting Lego ever aimed to greenwash Shell, but Shell do get that positive association out of the relationship. We don't have any Exxon branded Lego products any more (at least not since the Exxon Valdez spill) but it would be nice to think that we didn't need a (feel free to check out some of their recent arctic mishaps) for Lego to see sense on this.
  10. I may be alone here, but I'm not a huge fan of leg printing. For me it should be used judiciously and sparingly. The more detailed some of it is the more unsusable the functioning legs are on some figures, and obviously it also limits the ability to change legs and use them elsewhere.
  11. Irrespective of my politics on this, the whole thing was just cringeworthy. Perhaps Lego wanting to distance themselves from it was just a matter of taste ... Besides - what would the Highland Battler from CMF series 5 have to say about it all? ;)
  12. Series 1: zombie Series 2: Spartan Series 3: fisherman Series 4: sailor Series 5: Egyptian queen Series 6: lady Liberty Series 7: bagpiper Series 8: ocean king Series 9: cyclops Series 10: Medusa Series 11: yeti Team GB: swimmer Lego Movie: Taco Tuesday guy Simpsons: Mr. Burns
  13. Anyone picked up any of the Arctic sets yet? Or seen them anywhere other than lego stores?
  14. It's unlikely that Lego store will either start selling them earlier than the 'official relase date' or for less than the full price... Just checked. It is the same as Tonto too.
  15. Hi. Apu's head is the same colour as the Series 11 Gingerbread Man, or the hat of Wiley Fusebot in movie series
  16. Picked up a bunch from Argos. Managed to get 13/16 so far. These figures are awesome. Bag feeling is all about the accessories. Hardest two to distinguish are Millhouse & Ralph ... But if you've narrowed those down to one or other then Ralph's head is squat and Millhouse's more sculpted. Of the ones I have Itchy, Scratchy & Mr Burns have 'rubbery' heads. I assume Krusty may have too, otherwise his hair may be too sharp! Scratchy & Mr Burns are particularly fine figures.
  17. So, I found some in stock in Argos (£2.29) in Wood Green, London
  18. So, no one willing to tell us which store in the UK they've been sighted in?
  19. And any sightings in UK?
  20. (Not sure whether the LOTR giant eagle fits in your list)
  21. Ostrich, dolphin, ant and clam should be added ... And if you're including the crow, which is a hat accessory, then I guess there's a butterfly & beetle too
  22. It's easy enough to justify either the African chimp, the Asian panda or American macaw (parrot) by themselves ... But how have they all ended up in the same jungle? Maybe it's an animal holiday resort! (But yes, they are all fun animals)
  23. Isn't Emmet's car a variant of this: http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Small-Car-3177?p=3177 ?
  24. Arctic drillship? Hmm that would be controversial. Almost as controversial as having penguins in an Arctic theme!
