While I'm in general not a very big fan of HUGE models, this turned out quite fantastic indeed! Great work! Love the attention to detail that's gone in to the styling, looking forward to the video to see how well it performs! I agree with the others that it's not very fortunate to "promote" a contest entry in the HOF before the contest is over. This MOC may very well belong there, but I'd wait until the contest is over. Also, highly off topic (and I may be wrong); it seems lately the HoF has become more of an "Alasdair's Favourite MOCs collection", as I rarely see any discussion as to wether a MOC should be put there or not.. suddenly they just are Again, I may have overlooked discussions regarding this

1. I think it is "couplable" on both sides to prevent kids from installing them the wrong way.. While I highly doubt any of us here on the forum have had a problem with it, I think the younger kids can make the mistake. The DBG one-sided clutch gears always had a small picture in the instructions indicating which way to put it, I imagine for the same reason 2. If it's symmetrical side-to-side, it looks like it can hang snugly on a pin, something neither of the one-sided variants can EDIT: Beaten to it by Boratko- 5,506 replies

'Glass' in Technic Models

I've used trans-red liftarms to great effect for the rear lights of car MOCs, other than that, not so much. I don't own any trans-clear Technic parts though. As for windows, I think it works very well in most cases to just leave things "open", as the variety of scale and form of Technic vehicle sets would make it hard to standardize "Technic window parts" -

Seconded.. the new red "gear rack holder" piece seems like it is not usable for much else.. Still, I welcome it! -

Well obviously if you build something larger there is a bigger chance you will be able to fit more stuff in it!:-P My point was, one can make a small, impressive pneumatic model, but then you will probably have a hard time fitting a compressor inside it:-) That being said, I'm not the one to make rules for future competitions, but I think it would be interesting to impose some limitations.. Then again, it would certainly be interesting with an all out, pneumatic mayhem contest as well! Feel free to use the word "Pneumayhem" by the way;-) -

Adding a motorized compressor takes up an enormous amount of space (battery box + motor), disallowing it would maybe encourage people to build smaller Also, it takes away some of the charm, IMO But of course, if it is allowed, everyone can do what they want -

Ah, yes, you are right. The new pump was introduced to make it easier to install right? Sort of what the new transmission driving ring does I thought it had a shorter stroke due to the engine crank shaft piece used in the compressor in 8868 -
There is an extremely simple solution to your problem; Use pneumatic tubing. IMO it actually looks better EDIT: Oh, and absolutely awesome looking model! I suspect it uses the transmission setup Paul showed us earlier, where the actual gearbox is behind the seats, operated by some kind of linkage?

Well, as TC6, the SBrick contest, is nearing it's finish, I started to think of what should come next! While I'm sure Jim has already got a plan for TC7, I still have a simple idea I'd like to see, maybe for TC8, if indeed plans for TC7 are already in place. I thought, with the introduction of new pneumatics later this year, how about a pneumatic competition before, to sort of showing off what we can do with the current system, before the new one is introduced? Maybe make it PF-not-allowed, or maybe setting a parts limit for the entries? And then, come this autumn, maybe we could have a pneumatic competition v2 ? -
Well, it all comes down to what you need the most.. Pneumatics? RC? Small liftarms? Personally I'd go for the 42043, if you can wait till August. Else, the only set that appeals to me of the ones you've listed is 42025

So you're still pursuing this? How's it coming along? The newer (grey) small pumps have a longer stroke, so in effect you will get a better air supply. -
Great write up! Like many others, this set doesn't quite do it for me (for many reasons), but I'm surprised at the seemingly intricate/elegant and somewhat compact gearbox. I think this set would have benefitted from the new, long, slim pneumatic cylinder being introduced in the 42043 later this year for the extention of the crane arm. IMO the set looks pretty good, but better with black rims

OSUHARDING1 put up a short review of the model, check it out below! -
I would rather see they spend resources on other things.. They have an OK system now, with LBG and black, and axles are mostly used inside the models anyway. For those times when you need to use axles for decorative purposes, black and LBG are fairly neutral in a lot of cases and as susch won't stand out. Or one could cover the axles with coloured pin connectors, bushes or ribbed hoses, or use flex axles instead

[HELP] Stud Dimensions
D3K replied to Dafgek81's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
My understanding of the system (I may be wrong): The base dimension - P - is defined as 8 mm, and that is the distance between two studs/pinholes. The width of a brick (or liftarm, for that matter) is P-0,2 (i.e. 7,8 mm). This is to allow some "breathing space" between pieces, so they don't jam. -

Ain't that the truth! "Air Tech Claw Rig" being one of my personal favourites On topic: I wonder why they decided to use 2x 3L Liftarms on the doors, when using 2x 6L thin liftarms probably would have looked cleaner. Not a big fan of random gaps in an otherwise clean surface, if it's avoidable
