Latest impact of other themes on historic themes
MAB replied to Wardancer's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'm not that impressed by the dragon, given the previous CMF we already have. -
You know you still can do this, right? When I buy LEGO for my kids, I sometimes but them sets, and they tend to stay as sets. But I also buy them parts from BL, typically adding cheap bits whenever I am placing an order anyway. The sets remain and sets and they get played with as sets. The parts get chucked into a box and they get played with as building stock. There is way more creative building with the parts, but there is more role playing play with the sets.

I think that's partly due to the number of sets kids have these days. Most kids I know have loads and they tend to get kept together, and the MOCing is done if they have Classic sets or a bucket full. Whereas in the 70s we had a bucket full and that was it.

I don't think that is what most adults (especially new to the hobby adults) want from 18+ sets. Most seem to want to build a kit and display it. And any adults that are creative will be buying across all age ranges for parts and building their own MOCs. I doubt the size of the middle region, as in people that want to build without instructions but still need to be told what they can build, is very big.

Yes, it is just how long will the wait be before resellers give up buying them. The BL price for a single torso has dropped from about 8x the B+P price to about 3x it. Once it drops below 2x, I imagine people will stop buying 200 per order and so LEGO's stocks will remain more steady.

Lucasfilm: Willow (1988) Tir Asleen Castle 🏰 [LEGO IDEAS]

The combination of teeth and lips don't look very LEGO-like to me. The tiny eyes in some also look a bit off.- 15 replies

The feed is sorted (see the B+P thread in licensed), it's the bot that I need!

As well as helmets and armour, you can vary arm colours to change the sleeves of the outfit too, and also vary the leg colours to change the length of the tabard, or have different chain mail showing on the legs. Then have some with swords, some with quivers and bows and arrows, some with pikes, and so on and soon they look quite varied even though the torso is the same each time.

Yeah, but I hope they don't go out of stock by 3.35am every time they come in at 3.30am!

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
MAB replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
Most capes used to be available if you called in. I've bought licensed capes in bulk in the past. -
It is also simple to add the burnt versions too, if that is what you are into.

This is a good point. I think we are very lucky to be getting two Black Falcons. Creator sets could easily be done with no specific printed parts (aside from heads) at all, so just getting some desirable torsos (because they already exist) is good.
-
I think the roof is the downside. It is almost two decades since those parts were produced and without them the build is completely changed.

I don't think that is what LEGO wants. They like that people build the pictured set and never break it up. As it means they buy more sets, and still more. There is a view that it is paper, so can be sustainably sourced and is recyclable, no matter how much ink is on it or how much fuel is needed to transport it. (Single use) plastic bad, paper good.

Not all locations have set names and numbers of parts on the box. Look at the Creator pirate ship https://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DZGMqGUtIym4&ved=2ahUKEwibnLvguJrwAhUVlFwKHRcmAOUQxa8BegQIAxAB&usg=AOvVaw0Oeit0BLnYIoYCBBFJolqE

No chance. This isn't a preliminary image, it is a leak of the box art. It is final.

I find most old soldier style and peasant type torsos work quite well. I think most that I use a lot of have been mentioned... Some need bits returning/replaced. I use this blue Chinese torso for Figwit. I can't spot his normal dark blue legs though. Theoden and frightening knight torsos Hun Even evil knights work well, but for armour you need short hair.

Have you seen LEGO's website recently, the bit where it says adults welcome? Or the ages printed on boxes such as Sesame Street and Winnie the Pooh? Or do you mean children only, including aged 18+ children that haven't grown up.

I doubt that is true. The theme is now 10 years old. That would mean most current fans are something like 16+ or 18+ if they have been into it when it first came out. But current Ninjago sets sell very well to kids. I can understand that many AFOLs into it now would have also been into it when it first came out, but not the same for kids. Most kids getting it now were probably not born or under 2 when it came out.

Or ask for feedback from sites such as this before submission. Very few people that eventually post an IDEAS submission here do that.

The money off future purchase vouchers are exactly the same as the old scheme. The points awarded and what the vouchers cost are different, but money for money they are the same.

Really? I used to buy a fair bit from Japan and never had to pay export fees. Import fees to the UK government, yes. But not export fees to the Japan government.

If Ninjago is always a competitor to whatever new big bang themes they try, then Ninjago will probably win out just through inertia. They don't go into producing Chima or NK or other themes thinking they won't be successful. So they would have to compete on the shelves.
