How is this not a thing? [Castle Battle Pack]
SirBlake replied to SirBlake's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
You make a good point as far as the domination of comic-based media. I also think we’re both on an anecdotal merry go round, as I can list much more castle/fantasy in recent times, along with the enduring nature of classic Disney that’s full of castles and still seen by most kids regardless of generation. I think the assertions you’re making are likely parallel to TLG’s thoughts on the matter the last several years and I disagree with both of you. Edit: it’s a fun conversation though. -
How is this not a thing? [Castle Battle Pack]

On the first part: how was it prominent in the 70's and 80's? Excalibur the movie? (Definitely not a kid's movie) He-Man and Thundercats had a bit of it, but those properties stretched the castle part of things pretty darn far. I can see a much greater connection to those properties with something like Nexo Knights than classic castle. On the last part: we can certainly agree. Those 3 are timeless, and the fact that they are constantly being brought back in film, TV and especially in video games tells the tale. The 2014-2020 draught is what eventually led to a dim (not quite dark) age for me because TLG seemingly didn't have the common sense to serve the community. Now all of a sudden there's a resurgence because they magically see a market for the theme? I was shouting that the whole d#$% time! How many failed Chimas/Nexos/Hidden Sides/Vidyos do there need to be before they realize that? Perhaps they're starting to see the light. We've gotten more high quality sets (if not quantity) of all three themes in the last few years than the last decade. LOL, sorry. I'm just a wee bit passionate on this subject. :) -

I’m not picking on you personally, but this post echos a lot of assumptions that just don’t add up that well to me. Thing 1: medieval/fantasy is ever present in culture. There is FAR more representation in pop culture now than there was in the 80’s/90’s. What was there back then? Willow? A half hearted D&D cartoon? Disney’s Gummi Bears? Lol Thing 2: you know what did have a hay day in the 80’s and 90’s that’s largely faded away in current pop culture? Ninjas. Clearly there is some sort of market for Lego castle. 3 large sets and a GWP in 18 months proves that. I’m just asking TLG to stop half-a$$ing it and fill in one of the largest gaps. -
That’s pretty cool!

Last time I went to the closest Lego store, they would assemble complete figures for you, but there was no torsos and legs only option. Either way, driving over an hour to that store is not the point I’m going for here. Ideally this would be regular retail. -

In the hypothetical that I’m suggesting, it would simply be more army builders from the upcoming 90th anniversary castle. I know better than to suggest new prints or parts for this. We’re getting 20 figs in this new set, which is a great number, but once you account for civilians and rivals, we’re left with 9 soldiers to guard it. Again, a pretty good number, but I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting 20 more lion soldiers to man the battlements of this beauty. More black falcons and forestmen would be a bonus. -
10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set

Same here, none of mine cracked like the old space helmet did. 6080 was definitely the template for me. Later themes like fantasy era, kingdoms or 2013 played very fast and loose with the mixing and matching of torsos and helmets. I have fixed that in my collection though.- 2,976 replies

Dang, $70 for this one? That's a kick in the shorts. Can't deny the greatness of all of these animals though.

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
SirBlake replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I like them too. I’m not sure why they retired it, but it would be nice if there was one available in some shade of silver. This conversation does point me toward something: aside from the Black Falcons, every faction I can think of (aside from outlaws like Wolfpack and Forestmen) has separate torsos for guards and archers. Or at least, they can be organized that way. That’s how all of mine are organized, for instance: lion torsos and bullet helms for archers, crossed axes and neck protector helms for guards. It would be cool if they did that with the new version of the Lion knights. Kingdoms was very much done this way and it was great.- 2,976 replies

That all makes sense, and mirrors the kind of reasoning I’ve heard before, but for me (without whatever business data TLG has access to), I don’t see how it cancels out my previous points. With a $350 castle set coming out and two other $100+ sets currently available, those of us throwing hundos at Lego castle stuff would likely spend another hundred on battle packs. I myself would likely buy every one I saw. -

Another good point. CMF’s have definitely kept me going in the lean years. Certainly better than nothing, but a battle pack would be better. -
Awesome! I watched that whole build series. The inspiration certainly shows.

[MOC] Black Falcon's Fortress Anno 2022

Love it! The cheese slope corners are a real revelation for me. Never seen that done before, but the look is so good. I can’t wait to play with that. -

Fair point. I certainly fit in that demo. Thing is, if accessible minifigs like this were made available, a lot of us who threw 3 digits at recent offerings would buy multiples. Enough that I think there’s almost no way this sort of thing would warm shelves. -
Wow, lots of great details. I like the hoarding a lot.

That looks great!

Yeah that was my initial plan. The rebel in me would like to thwart TLG’s evil plan though. That’s what they want me to do. Lol

Hah! Too true. -
With the lean toward castle the last couple of years, what reason could TLG have to not release something like Benny’s Space Squad? They must have taken note when last year’s Black Falcons got raided on Bricks and Pieces. It seems like a 4 pack (2 new lion knights/1 black falcon/1 forestman) would print money. Throw in an archery target and small treasure chest cart for buildable elements and charge $12ish for it. I can’t think of a reason it wouldn’t sell like crazy. Seems like an easy decision.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 23. Rumors and discussion

While I agree, I think an interpretation using a more modern flip up visor could work well. -

Ooooh, yeah, that’d be fantastic. -

It’s a good list, but since we’ve already gotten a Crown Knight in the CMF range, I would like to see that substituted with either a fantasy era troll or some form of dragon knight (black knight/dragon master/kingdoms dragon). -
Nice!

Nice comparison and good info. Thanks!
