MOC: Improved 'F' Class for Kotanga Tramway
Lazarus replied to Locomotive Annie's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Most of the bricks she is using also are clone, its ok i say for Mocs but i would say if you get a nice design i would spend the cash and try and make it out of lego. I have been to the clone side before and come back. -
Hi I am Matthew (Lazarus) I have had a lego train since i was about six, i enjoyed it but it was never what i really wanted a real model train. I never got a model train untill i was into my 20s and my lego had been packed away for some 20years at mums place. So i have sent a good part of 8 years into models trains, in bettween that i had my first son who i built up my lego train for him just to have in his room on his shelf. It was there till he was about 3y/o, in that time with me being into model trains so much i had already built him a full 8x4foot HO thomas train set upto the same standerd i make mine. And one day he was like i want to play with my lego dad, we got it down and had a bit of a play with it. Finding out my old 9v motor would over heat after about 15mins, and then he some how forgot about the big train set in his bed room and it become lego lego lego. The oposit of me when i was a lad, i just though it would be a fad then back onto his thomas. I found brick link and bought a new 9v motor to keep him going and Brought him some of the elighten trans as i did not want to put to much into this yet as it maybe a fad. Then i found myself hooked again on lego, i think it was due to now i had no space in my house for my trains what ended up being packed away at my mums, two boys and in 3 Bedroom house the wife wanted the boys to have there own space. So i was with out a train set and have a void to fill, there is only so much thomas i can take. I found bricklink and some manuals for my old stuff i had from a boy like all kids over the years parts have gone and i was unable to build my yellow train stashion and train crossing and complete all my trucks for my 9v red cargo train. I bought up the parts and completed my sets, then i got hooked very baddy on bricklink i found my self buying stuff i liked. I bought the new red cargo train and the yellow cargo train and the red passenger train. I turn around and i have spent like $1000 on lego, hay i dont mind me and my boy are having so much fun. From that point it been lego lego lego for both of us, i like the building he likes the destroying. We now have a good amount of classic 9v building sets around, and i have converted all the RC new stuff to 9v. We are saving for the horzion express as i want that alot. I could list what i have but soon after xmas when i get some time off i want to put our set together and take some pics of all our trains and building and post them up. Also i have been working on my own MOCs that some of you might of seen already. Thanks for reading Sets i have, 4536 Blue Hopper Car, 4539 Manual Level Crossing, 4546 Road and Rail Maintenance, 4554 Metro Station, 4555 Cargo Station, 4563 Load and Haul Railroad, 10027 Train Engine Shed, 3677 Red Cargo Train, 7938 Passenger Train, 7937 Train Station, 7938 Passenger Train, 7939 Cargo Train, Working on > Custom MOW train Rake and Switching Tower.

i have some of the elighten stuff, bought this when i was getting back into lego. looked good for the price. They look ok and if you cant aford lego they are an ok sub for them. I gave my stuff now to my 4y/o to use as i dont like it now lego looks much better. This big big issue i had with these was the bricks dont stick together aswell as lego, as in the model breaks easyer. So kids playing with them you spend alot of time fixing them. I need to find a night where i can get these of my boys and put them in the bin. But yes they are copys but Megablocks are no diffrent they are a nice brick and they do some nice kits i have a few. money for value is spot on. They are cheap to buy and are as good as what you pay for no diffrent to lego you pay for what you get.

wow like it would love the plans for it that would love lovely on my self with all my other trains.

i think the price is good. should be around $200nz thats ok for this amount of bricks 3 large cars. most of the set with track and PF in Nz around around the $350 mark depending on what it is. $400 for a 6 car train about what 3000 bricks. not a bad deal i think, was it not $120US on the us lego site thats a good price. if shipping was not so much i would buy from there at a saving of about $60nz also Emerald Night i dont think looks that good and the cost in NZ is alot i think i saw it for like $450 i maybe wrong, i have not seen it much here. For one loco and a carrage seams alot to me. Its trying to be a A1 loco but just does not have the length that is should. I have seen some amazing A3 MOC ups by lego fans what are better the the Emerald Night. But i am a Deisel Fan even in my N scale and HO i am a deisel kid. I was around when Steam was prity much dead and the deisel was running the show. I remmber seeing the TGV as a boy and was amazzed as there was nothing like it in the UK at the time maybe a HST is the closest. And always wanted to go on one when i lived back in the UK so i am really keen to get my hands on this no matter the cost. two months seams so long when you really want something.

"I haven't tried powering a PF motor from a 9v, but I believe many folks have" this was what i was after also. Sweet time to buy up some bits. as the PF motor about under 50% cheaper than the 9v my 4 9v motors can now become 8 with out a heavy cost.

I did not touch the tanks as they where about right i could give them a tweek. You like your smooth lines Murdock i give you that, i might take your tweek of my tweek and tweek again haha. Coal in the tender looks good. I liked the hand rails being there to get into the cab as the is not ladder i could not find a way to put on in. I can see you made the gap between the foot plate bigger was not sure if that would of worked in real life with the one i did but it looked nice. i am keen to try and put some train wheels on it and get rid of those stock lego wheels.

New Option for Dual Motor PF Locomotives
Lazarus replied to mostlytechnic's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Sorry to bump this if its an old post. That PF internal motor looks just like the 9v ones. I have to dead 9v ones i might buy some pf ones and take the motors out. -
a full layout in lego that would be costly. i have botha N scale and OO scale layouts and i dont think they have cost anywhere near the cost of my lego.
-
for the locos with a tender i would remove the side water tanks of the train. a loco with a tender normaly has the water in that not on the main loco. Thanks looks good might download them and have a look when i get home.

i was looking at put light in my horizon express and looks like the old 9v might be a pain to get in, in saying that we wont have that till jan. But i want to put in a 2nd motor into my red passenger train as it have 4 cars it does stugle with a single 9v, i could by more but there cost is alot at the moment so i am trying to cut cash
-
would that cable work for a 2nd motor also. i know you can buy them.
-
Hello All. this has likly been asked before but if i could get an easy yay or nay :-P All my PF trains have all been converted to 9v, i bought the locos of bricklink with out PF to save the cash. I prefer 9v for myself, the battrys just put me off. One day i might change over but for now i am happy. First i want to use 61930c01 Black Electric, Light Unit Power Functions with Black PF Connector Lead Can this just be plugged onto the top of the 9v motor and away we go. Is is not all just 9v. Also can i do this. i may need to reiwre the PF terminal to make it the same as the 9v one. Idea is to get the 9v power from the old 9v motor and make it run. This is just a cheaper idead to run more than one motor.

yup murdoch one of many of yours i liked and are stating to work on. the bits for this lots should flote in over the coming weeks. first packages arriving to build the signal tower. Will also post up an update file of the wagon for all to download.
-
i might need to get some 9v lighting for mine it looks nice.
-
These are more ballast type trucks, but coal trucks from steam days just need to be a little shorter thats all.
-
cant take all the credit some of these ideas where taken from others, just added some slight mods onto them.
