  1. Yeah, but it still bothers me. Here are what I think are what the set titles SHOULD be, if they were true to the titles of the chapters of the book (and movies) and were not concerned with the effect on sales. LOTR Wave 1 Gandalf Arrives: fine as it is. Shelob Attacks: Shelob's Lair. Uruk-Hai Army: fine as it is. The Orc Forge: Isengard Orc Pit. Attack on Weathertop: "A Knife In The Dark" is the chapter name, but maybe the official one is fine since it lets us know the location depicted. Mines of Moria: "The Chamber of Marzabul" didn't include the well in the book, so maybe the set name is fine. Battle of Helm's Deep: Siege of Helm's Deep Hobbit Wave 1 Riddles for the Ring: Riddles in the Dark Escape from the Mirkwood Spiders: fine as it is, as "Flies and Spiders" was a confusing title in the book. Barrel Escape: Barrels out of Bond Attack of the Wargs: Out of the frying Pan, Into the fire An Unexpected Journey: An Unexpected Party Goblin King Battle: Escape from Goblin Town LOTR Wave 2 Wizard Battle: Wizard DUEL The Council of Elrond: fine as it is Battle at the Black Gate: Battle at one half of the Black Gate Pirate Ship Ambush: Corsair Ship Ambush The Tower of Orthanc: fine as it is Hobbit Wave 2: Too early to say if they are accurate to the movie, BUT there is no dol guldur in the book, nor any chase in lake town, nor any Orc attack on the mirkwood elves.
  2. How about Quickbeam? (An important Ent in the book). Looks close to the Lego version. Orc Pitmaster is more of a rank than a character name. Here you go generic mordor orc #723, here's a big axe and a grappling hook, you are now the Pitmaster of Orthanc, enjoy your new job!
  3. I really want to watch the AUJ extended edition NOW, but I know a boxset is inevitable in 2015, so I guess I'll wait. Still... These movies are really The Hobbit + The Appendices + a bunch of other stuff we deduced from other Tolkien's writings + purely made up stuff (rabbit sled, Tauriel)
  4. 5 Reasons Packages Get Destroyed (Learned Working at UPS) Very insightful.
  5. Agreed! 3/4 of the models of that set are pure genius - ony the satellite truck left me underwhelmed. http://www.brickshel...ery.cgi?f=98183
  6. Shame. I'd love a Lego Clint Eastwood aka "Dirty" Harry Callahan.
  7. You should try building it - it looks WAY better and larger in real life than the box photo suggests. Even without stickers.
  8. Hi! I think the 9396 is great set, built both models, and yeah, pleased with it... but I remembered just now that the B Model is not the first lego helicopter with Intermeshing rotors! meet the B Model of the otherwise crappy 8444
  9. I have a brickshelf folder where I uploaded pics of alternate models from my collection. 3 pages long, and due to an update soon. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=98173 Agreed, it was brilliant, and way better than the first alternate model of that set (the clumsy satellite truck)
  10. 9732 Extreme Creatures. When I asked if anybody ever built the models featured on the box, nobody even bothered to answer! No instructions whatsoever apart from tiny little modules. http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=87824
  11. Only 1 I buy multiple of sets if they were dedicated army builders with human soldiers and orcs (LOTR)
  12. 8 uruk-hai? I counted 12. (11 excluding the polybag) 4 from helm's deep 4 from uruk-hai army 2 from orc forge 1 from uruk-hai polybag 1 from orthanc
  13. I love it when people make City/Technic hybrid MOCs
  14. There is no doubt now that Orthanc is doing great in sales. Toys R Us now carry it on their website (both USA and Canada) when it was supposed to be an exclusive to Lego.com. There is NO DOUBT that TRU negociated with Lego once they saw how much of a winner it is, and the real must-have of the second wave (and I'd say, of the whole theme so far). This is very good news for us who are hoping for more huge LOTR sets.
  15. So I bought this way back in 2003 and managed to run and install this thing on my refurbished Windows XP. My RIS 2.0 from year 2000 came with a patch on the CDthat allowed me to run this even older piece of software from 1998. I did figure out how to run the software. Click on the outside of the circle of the ball (not the ball itself!) of the left of the hub to move it away, otherwise it annoyingly hides the pages giving you hints. Go ahead and ask me if you have trouble running the Extreme Creatures software in RIS 2.0 You need to 1) Install RIS 2.0 2) Install the RIS Windows XP patch and the updated USB Tower driver (It used to be found on lego.com. If you can't find it online anywhere we can work something out, send me a PM) 3) Install the Extreme Creatures CD. Its gonna complain about needing 256 colors mode, but I ignored it without any problems. 4) install the Extreme Creatures patch, found on the RIS 2.0 CD. 5) Run RIS 2.0. Click "Missions", "Challenges". The Extreme Creatures add-on is run from there. If you have Windows Vista, 7 or 8 related questions I can't help you (but there is already a nice thread about it) . I bought a cheap, refurbished Windows XP on eBay JUST to be able to run my prized RIS 2.0 that came with an USB tower without any hassle, after my old XP PC from 2007 died. Now moving on to the LEGO BUILDING... The software is ... kinda crappy. I'd LOVE to build the 12 challenges but there are only very vague references to the subassembies from the instruction manual. No 3D movies or additional photos of the (very neat) completed models that show on the back of the box. The instruction manual only features small, simple assemblies. The tutorials for each mission does give you a sample program for each, though. So. Has ANYONE here managed to build the models on the back of the box and/or the challenges from the CD?
  16. Great MOCs, why don't you get her to create an Eurobricks account so she can post her MOCs herself?
  17. I agree and would love to get a Balrog set obviously, but you know there will always be a very vocal minority trying to create controversy by trying to paint Lego as demonic children's toy.
  18. Assuming this list is legit I'm hopeful for the inclusion of these characters: 1) Galadriel 2) Witch King 3) Eowyn 4) Faramir (in Osgiliath set) 5) Gothmog, the Orc general. No Aragorn, Legolas or Gimli - good, we already have enough of them. If this concludes the LOTR theme, then very few characters will have been missed. Old Bilbo - Can do without, his younger self got a whole theme named after him Balrog - I suspect this is to avoid any criticism/boycott from overtly religious people. Remember Jabba's Palace? Denethor - he's neither a clear cut hero or villain, and his character arc is too dark for kids. Treebeard - he'll be missed but you can always mod the Ent in Orthanc to more closely resemble him Celeborn- well, you can always pretend Haldir is him...close enough for me

  20. If this is legit, the ranger in Osgiliath has to be Faramir.
  21. I don't recommend buying it twice at full price. You can easily find it without animals and minifigs for around 30$, if you don't wanna bother selling the extra figs on bricklink. I didn't want a 2nd eagle, since I already got the one from orthanc. You DO want the orcs, though.
  22. are the only things missing in this set, and will be substituted really quickly when I get it. Don't get me wrong, I love the classic smiley faces as much as anybody, but they feel at home in the 80s.
  23. Here is this setup In real life.
  24. I suspect Tauriel will die at the battle of five armies. You heard it here first!
