  1. Reminds me of MacBeth and his devious wife!
  2. Thanks! >>>Nice work! I think it looks a lot better in 'flight mode' than when on it's little legs. I think it looks best when crouching on all 4 of its limbs (as seen on the pics when it attacks Frodo), but I agree it kinda looks ridiculous when standing up on its hind legs. >>>Was this how you built it? Not sure what you mean by this question, but I started with the head, and went from there, using as many pieces from the 9470 as I could. Cheers!
  3. Hey all! Following my small 9469 Frodo's Wooden Race Car MOC I built last May, http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=70330 Here is a LotR/Castle MOC made entirely with the bricks from the 9470 Shelob Attacks set. The head was built first, hence why it's a bit disproportionally big. The hind legs were done last, hence why they are short and frail (lacking parts). The neck, jaw, limbs, wings, and tail are all articulated. 9470 is a terrific hinge parts pack. What is this mini-dragon's favorite snack? Hobbits, of course! Leftover parts. You can see I pretty much used all the hinges that I could. Brickshelf gallery http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=514402
  4. Thanks for the picture... Wow, those are CRAP! Reminds me of Belville. Even the dolls are similar in size to Belville's dolls. The only way this will compete with Friends is solely due to Barbie brand recognition. And as for Hot Wheels megabloks... is this supposed to compete against Lego Racers?
  5. Meh. I still have mine from the LOTR RISK board game that came out in the early 00's. It only fits on my little finger, though.
  6. New for TT games maybe, but not for Lego.
  7. http://www.gamespot.com/news/lego-aware-of-brand-saturation-fears-6397418 Senior development manager at Lego Group says company makes sure each new game has something fresh, is tied to physical toy set. A new Lego game has been on store shelves every year for almost a decade now, but the series isn't likely to fade away anytime soon due to brand saturation. That's according to Lego Group senior development manager of video and mobile games Darryl Kelley, who told GameSpot that each new game adds something different to the series, and this is just one reason why the brand has endured. Lego: Lord of the Rings is one of two new Lego games due this year. Lego: Lord of the Rings is one of two new Lego games due this year. "I think any developer, or any publisher, or toy manufacturer would always look at [brand saturation] from an acute, strategic, and competitive point of view," Kelley said. "And it's important that…we're adding novelty to each and every game. There's always something new; there's always something different. We're always looking to add different layers…whether it's a feature or a function or it's new hardware, which we'll have the luxury of having over the next few years. So it's definitely always been a concern, and it's just important to maintain a healthy balance." Another reason why the Lego brand of games has endured is because the Lego Group makes a conscious effort to release games that are tied to physical toy sets. "We design every game as a support of a core product," he said. "We've learned from the past that we need support to make sure that every game is supported from a core theme that we have physically available to our consumers." Lego Star Wars games alone have sold over 30 million copies to date, with the Lego Batman and Harry Potter franchises moving many millions of copies themselves. Looking ahead, a new Lego massively multiplayer online game from Age of Conan developer Funcom is in development, Lego: Lord of the Rings is due out next month, and Lego City Undercover is due for the Wii U by April 2013. The rest of GameSpot's interview with Kelley will be published next week. During the talk, Kelley addresses concerns that Lord of the Rings purists may have regarding Lego: Lord of the Rings, as well as why Funcom is the right studio to make the new Lego MMO, and how the company goes about considering new franchises for game treatment.
  8. Great review. Absolute must-have, one of my favorite sets.
  9. Same here I did find this caption funny, though... Somehow, we don't see Wooden Duck Batman or Star Wars making a fun video game.
  10. ebgames.ca refused to confirm to me that the game came with Elrond (although gamestop.com did), so I went with Toys R Us since they sell it at the same price, and they DO advertise Elrond. Bought my 2nd Uruk-Hai army yesterday. Amidst my huge collection, this is my first ever Lego set that I consciously buy twice. (Excepting motor packs and supplementary kits)
  11. Mine came with instructions for the buggy, as well If anyone ever makes instructions for the Jeep, you'll be a hero.
  12. You play as a troll... I wanna play as the BALROG!
  13. Interesting article. Lego Friends petition: why feminists should think twice before they sign http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/sep/04/lego-friends-feminists-think-twice
  14. OK: non-Lego String, rubber bands, pneumatic hose custom stickers Batteries of any kind, including the custom battery back mentioned earlier OK in moderation: Coloring parts Using unexisting colors in LDD NOT OK: Gluing parts. Damaging parts. Megabloks models in a city layout. (yes, I have seen this... in person. See those yellow construction vehicles in the upper middle of this pic) http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/booba33/ExpotrainLaval/Avril2012/p1050493.jpg Using non-Lego parts. Custom electronic parts. Back in 2002, nothing pissed me off more than seeing some technic MOCer getting praises and then I found out he used HiTechnic's custom stuff to make his models RC. A true Lego MOC back then would have used a Lego built remote (with 9v switches) that is physically connected to the model with Lego electric wires, along with some pneumatic tubes if the remote contains a pneumatic compressor + switches. I also remember seeing a review of a recent Lego train set on youtube that really got me angry. The guy went out of his way to complain that Lego didn't include enough tracks in the set; and spent HALF OF THE REVIEW showing everybody how crafty he is by building his own train tracks from junk he had around his house. I angrily left him a message, "In case you didn't know, Lego sells train tracks separately, you cheapskate!" Sure, anybody can use their toys how they want... it's when someone presents a MOC to others as a Lego MOC that I get irksome when it breaks some rules.
  15. Then you (and your manager friends) are implying that Lego's CEO is a liar? Lego's CEO speaking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRsuzG1vATw Skip to 3:47 for LOTR specific.
  16. http://www.brickset.com/search/?theme=Technic&ownedBy=UndeadHalfOrc Addional Technic sets not returned by that Brickset list: The Racers Technic sets: 8475 RC Buggy, 8366 Supersonic RC, 8461 BMW Williams, 8468, 8469, 8472, 8473, 8353, 8354, 8355, 8370, 8371 The Star Wars Technic sets: 8000, 8001, 8002, 8007, 8008, 8009, 8010, 8011, 8012, 4481 Mindstorms http://www.brickset.com/search/?theme=Mindstorms&ownedBy=UndeadHalfOrc
  17. Have Lego ever done an official Imperial Probe Droid (the big black round probe droid at the beginning of Empire Strikes Back, on Hoth) and if not, have they ever been interested in producing one?

  19. Well, I definitely still play with them (and not ashamed! ) AND keep all of my boxes, so for me the least important aspect is: the debate of fleshies vs yellow heads.
  20. Here, I always use a standard 24T gear instead; this makes the crane able to lift much heavier weight. In addition, I add in pneumatic tubes to close off the circuit (the set already comes with an extra t-piece), to smoothen the descent of the crane arm.
  21. Completely agreed.
  22. Exactly. Sure, it's $15-19 more, but it enhances the set by a huge amount. I'm an expert sticker applier, so they didn't bother me, but this opinion will change if they start peel off in 4 years. Hard to predict. I've had those from 8461 peel off a few months after they were applied, and I've had those from 8640 (from 1986!) still stick perfectly.
  23. I've read it recently and there's quite a few questions that aren't from the Hobbit book. I had one about Radagast, for instance.
