I hope the Uruk-Hai polybag will show up soon. I only want one, so I won't mind paying extra to import it.

They might have a shot of becoming successful if it weren't for those ugly minifigs. But then again, I also think Megablok's WoW figures are horrible.

What's the deal with those? I've seen sets on eBay from the 60s and early 70s so complex that they rival modern Lego Technic sets. I've seen beautiful Meccano models at toy-train expos, and invariably they are presented by men in their 60s, who doubtless built this from their collection they've had since they were kids. But whenever I see them in toy shops, they SUCK! They're small, have next to zero mechanisms inside, and include lots of plastic parts. And the variety is awful as well. I know that this probably owes to the fact that the Meccano company has been through a lot of buyouts/hostile takeovers in its history, but still. You'd think that the world's leading METAL based construction toy would put more effort into their products.

From the reviews & descriptions I read, it's much more than just a prequel. It's a collection of events from that world (of which Middle-Earth is only a part) spanning millenias, involving gods and people who couldn't possibly care less what happens with a certain hobbit down the line. The LOTR story is just a tiny little part of that humongous world.
-
Yeah. I've never read it myself, but from what I know, it's actually the LOTR story that's set in the Silmarillion universe; Tolkien wrote LOTR when Silmarillion was already well underway. The main baddie is Melkor/Morgoth, some chap who happened to anger the gods by not singing in tune, and became evil. I'm not kidding.

For some reason, only Walmart and Toys R Us are even allowed to carry Lego Friends on their shelves where I live. So, in response many small shops carry a huge selection of clone brand construction toys for girls. They're ugly (the minifigs look like zombies ) and they reek of pink, but cheap. LEGO is shooting itself in the foot is it's true that the smaller shops aren't even allowed to have Friends on retail.

At first I found the 7 heroica weapons useless, but I put one of the 2 daggers in the well skeleton's ribcage (it fits perfectly!) and sometimes I give the small bow to Pippin, it makes for a cute little hobbit bow. To actual end of the bow fits into a minifig hand. The heroica axe, I give to Balin... surviving in Middle-Earth is no picnic; even dead minifigs need to defend themselves!

LOTR Project: The Return of the King
SheepEater replied to Nuju Metru's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
About the Caverns of the Dead set: I like it, but needs more meat on the bones (pun unintended!). Need at least 2 generic oathbreakers (ghostly soldiers) minifigures to go with the king. Love the dropping skulls play feature! -
Acting classes. The ladies are pretty, and they tend outnumber men at least two to one.

Am I the first person to feel that way: I have a problem with Return of the Jedi. Darth Vader is hardly evil in it. He officially becomes good when he kills the emperor, but I'd argue it's way sooner than that. Compare the Vader of Empire Strikes Back to the Vader of ROTJ. Name a single evil action that he does in ROTJ (Taunting Luke hardly counts). Thoughts?

BTW, I only started liking Castle BECAUSE of Lotr - prior to that I was only into Technic/City/Trains. Your solution might not please classic castle fans who've been following the theme for decades, to have their theme split into 2 forums (So the realistic medieval Kingdoms would be on a different forum than the fantasy era Castle 2007-2009.)
-
Back in the 90s you weren't even considered a true Tolkien geek unless you've read the Silmarillion (I never did). Once the movies came out, the requirements for being a LOTR geek lowered to having just read the LOTR books.

I'm melting my brain trying to figure out your wonderfully complex mechanisms - well done! -
The gladius also comes in three Lord of the Rings sets, as short swords for the hobbits Sam, Merry and Pippin: 9470 Shelob Attacks (cheapest), 9472 Attack on Weathertop, and 9473 Mines of Moria.

I disagree. There has been Lego LOTR creations for more than a decade, and they've always been posted on Castle related forums (this is true for Lugnet.com as well). Regardless of the existence of an official Lego theme. If the admins created a separate forum should they have to move all of those old LOTR topics from the 2000s as well? The Lego Castle theme, over the years and at least since 1992, has had sets with, castles, knights, siege engines, lots of medieval weapons&armor, wizards, dragons, dwarves, orcs, trolls. So do LOTR/The Hobbit. If it was up to me I'd rename the forum simply "Castle/Sword & Sorcery" and dump the western, vikings or bronze age stuff in another historical forum.

REVIEW: 7032 Highway Patrol & Undercover Van
SheepEater replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Town
Hi! I'm not one for "necromancing" old threads needlessly, but this is one of the VERY FEW town sets for which I was able to recreate one of the alternate models from a single photo from the back of the box - the plane with control center. Hopefully my photos will help people recreate it, including myself - I never bothered to recreate it in LDD or any virtual lego software! http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=390256 -

Review: SDCC 2012 Hobbit Bilbo exclusive
SheepEater replied to Solscud007's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The actual minifig reminds me of the cutesy 1977 Rankin-Bass version of the character! -
I bought a 48 x 48 gray baseplate. It looks MUCH better on it, giving it much more of a cave look. All I need now is a bunch of cheap BURPs off bricklink.

What's so evil about eating animals?

I have a gut feeling we'll get a new Aragorn for the 2nd wave and the Aragorn we got will never appear again. Bilbo, I see you finally caved in and used the Bilbo minifig as your avatar. I'm sure you'll replace him by an old Bilbo minifig if we ever get one, though!

I want a set that recreates Chewbacca's Kashyyyk Tree house family from the Star Wars Holiday special. With Malla (Chewie's wife), Lumpy (his son), Itchy (his old dad), and Art Carney minifigs.
