  1. Foliage pieces and some transparent bricks as they're both great for nature scenes. I would add in base plates, even though they're not really a brick so to speak. Can never have too many blank slates to work on...
  2. I like the abundance of printing because at least it makes the repetitive characters worth getting. I've already got so many Luke's that I don't mind a new one with more printing, because I can always swap in one of my old ones. Lego is a business that churns out lots of material and minifigures are so collectible, Lego needs to give them as much appeal on their own as possible.
  3. For fleshies, maybe look at the Lone Ranger stuff. It's probably on clearance at some retail stores or cheap online.
  4. It's an excellent point and why I avoid eBay for Legos virtually all the time. Especially for what would appear to be "deals" on popular figures that seem too good to be true. I'm fine with holes in my collection if it means I never have to wonder about it's authenticity.
  5. I agree that people/children should decide what they like and Lego will see what they like by how well a line does. Sure, Friends isn't for everyone and Lego does make some good female items in their regular, but the almighty dollar will be the deciding factor. Friends is doing well enough that it's on the market still. Also, I'd add in that at least Lego is trying. Again, Friends may not be for everyone, but I give Lego credit for trying.
  6. Chrome C-3PO is certainly how the figure should have been, but at that point so many C-3POs had been made I think it was a moot point. Even now, I have so many C-3POs, it would be a hard sell to get me to chase down a chrome one, but that's because I'm not a completist. Meanwhile, Mr Gold is completely unique having never been offered before.
  7. That's mostly up to you. If you wanted them bad enough, then maybe that cost is acceptable to you. I can't speak on ninjago stuff, but assuming Benny would come out to half or $24, I think that might be much. I probably would have bought Benny's spaceship and parted out the things I didn't need. With that said, Benny's spaceship is an awesome set and worth getting.
  8. Correct, you will earn VIP points on your first purchase. There is no "buy in" for becoming a VIP member... otherwise people would just be buying keychains to join.
  9. Sealing a small bag like that is easy enough to do and I can see someone who moves alot of Legos going that route. I'm no expert on how bootlegs are shipped, but I think this appears legit.
  10. I think Mr Gold was a much different example than the chrome SW figures, as Mr Gold had no level of mystery if you were able to feel the bags. Plus, it was a good time to release a Mr Gold level figure as so many people were collecting full sets of CMFs, unlike SW where your collection would be reasonably intact if you were missing a chromed version of a figure. Mr Gold made completists go bonkers.
  11. I don't get to this section of the boards often, but builds like that will make me a fan pretty quick! Well done, that looks fantastic! I especially like the horns, legs, and scenic base. Very well put together scene.
  12. Fred Meyers is running 20% off all Legos. They have some of the summer sets, like GotG.
  13. This looks like the best reveal so far from SDCC. Good price, excellent figure count and type (main characters), and a nice little build. Definitely beats the SW Wookie ship and the Hobbit Smaug sets.
  14. I've got all of them and think they're great little builds. The character selection is nothing special, but for a quick and easy set, they're better to me than the former planets line. Plus they're kinda cute, so my girlfriend likes them. I still see them alot on the shelves, so I'm unsure if they're selling we'll or just being stocked often.
  15. I feel like Lego is not confident that this will earn back the production costs, so they made the price really high. Granted Smaug is a big figure with lots of big new molds, but I'm betting Lego only thinks it'll be on the shelves a short time so they have to make their money back quick. Given the Hobbit stuff may only be out till then end of 2015 and Lego has to make a Smaug, this makes total sense. Unfortunately, this means I won't be picking up the set unless the final movie really, really wows me or I can find this super cheap. Otherwise, the price for what you get is too rich for me.
  16. More Wookies is obviously great, but at that price I'd want at least one or two more Wookies. As it is, unless I really end up like the new Rebels show, I can't see myself getting this one. I probably can't even use the parts at te moment either.
  17. We just visited Bricks and Minifigs in Beaverton, OR and I was a but disappointed. The selection of sets were basically leftovers from the past couple years with the usual markup prices. They had a parts bin for Minifigs and bricks, but most of the pieces were in varying shapes of condition. Some of the face printing was faded or scratched. The main attraction and probably their best money-maker was all the CMFs and various other Minifigs behind the counter. All were marked at the usual eBay prices, but being able to assess their condition in the store helped. As I looked through the displays, I was shocked to see a Star Wars Death Star for $500, when it's still being sold at the mall's Lego store down the street for $400. Shameful. Also the brickforge stuff like the guns and centaur kits were pretty cool, but as a Lego purist, I passed.
  18. The MTT is out now with the other sets in the summer wave.
  19. Picked up the AT-AT, Cantina, MTT, and Ewok Village last night at the local Lego store. They had all the other new sets in stock, but I passed. I'm liking the smaller boxes... it's funny seeing the new boxes and brick counts compared to the older larger boxes with smaller brick counts.
  20. Usually TRU gets sets in early and even sells them at retail price, then raises the prices later. I'm surprised they hadn't gotten the new stuff in yet, since I assumed it was part of their contract with Lego. As others have mentioned, I would assume that target/Walmart will get them on the release date depending on if the specific stores have done their Lego reset. Target has a great inventory system, so you may be able to call and check. If the sets don't have a street date on the box, you can usually buy them if they have them.
  21. I'm hoping the local Lego store has these on Friday (tomorrow). I wish individual Lego stores could have an email list letting people know when the new product arrives. I had been resigned to August 1st as my hunting date for these, now I'm going to try to get there as soon as possible.
  22. I understand the thought process on how and why Lego has made this change with torsos, but I don't always think it works. On licensed figures it makes sense because women are portrayed that way in comics, so these Lego figures mirror that. On non-licensed figures, I think it the curves don't always have to be included and I support the idea that in some cases Lego not use them. Especially if the outfit (like a labcoat) doesn't warrant the look in the first place. Make-up I think is less "offensive", since I think it's done more carefully by Lego and is less of a self-esteem piece. Making girls feel like even their toys have to be curvy is one thing, but alittle lipstick added is another. It's almost like the male heads that have facial hair. If done conservatively, both designs can work well.
  23. I agree that it's better to think of as a parts set than anything else. I liken it to the LOTR Black Gate.
  24. Like alot of people have suggested, these bricks look too detailed and/or out of place with Legos. I just don't see how this will help or support Lego fans anymore than MegaBloks has. Te age demographic also doesn't help as these are more geared to adult themes. I see these as nice customizable accessories for action figures, with limited use in the Lego world.
  25. VFOL - veteran fan of Lego EFOL - experienced fan of Lego OSFOL - old-school fan of Lego My two cents... cool article.
