BRAWN BEAST, MAGMA BEAST AND STEALTH BEAST (MOCs)
DraikNova replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Beautiful work. However, since they're in Antropolis, that means the right name would be "Lava Beast". At any rate, I'm thinking Stealth Beast might look better with Flyer Beast's upper head, as the big block of purple all in one place throws the colorscheme off a bit. My favorite is probably Brawn Beast, although the exposed blue bones look a bit unnatural. I may have to use that tongue design to get rid of my excessive amounts of red spikes and exo force hands.- 9 replies

Wow. That's really impressive, especially considering you did this in an hour. The torso detailing looks quite nice, but not as mechanical as the title suggests it should be. Maybe some more exposed wiring/tubing would help?

(Invasion From Below MOC) Stormer Scout Machine
DraikNova replied to Sir Brickalot's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Yeah, I have that problem every time I try to upload stuff to MOCPages, which is why the 60 or so MOCs I have aren't uploaded aren't there yet. The Scout Machine sounds like an interesting concept; does it use a bipedal frame? -
I like the use of minifigs. But using the mechs allows us to have both at the same time, so I don't see the problem here. Like CabooseBM has said, making the minifigs ride kaiju, or even just letting Breez do that and letting the others just fight as minifigs to allow for more impressive villain builds, would be awesome.

[MOC] Bitrusimus - Green Lantern Of Sector 2765
DraikNova replied to Dayton's topic in LEGO Action Figures
The arm armor would make this a nice MOC, if it weren't for the absurd-seeming use of shoulder armor as chest armor. -
[Moc] Chima - Leonidas's death.
DraikNova replied to Mikuri's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
"Fall on" should be "fell upon". It's current phrasing sounds like an anthropomorphic personification fell on him . Oh well, it's a nice MOC . -
I rather have a chance at a Stringer/other recolor polybag than another Evo, to be honest. May I ask why you want Evo to get another set, coolcab? If you want a walker for Evo, then there's the Evo Walker set. EDIT: Does anyone know how the heroes get their machines to walk? They have those hand-held controllers for their arms and arm weapons, but they seem to have no way to move the mech's legs.

[MOC] titan machine (evo xl machine - jet rocka combiner)
DraikNova replied to bacem's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Wow. The cockpit and main body is amazing (the cockpit works surprisingly well) and very solid looking. The fault of this MOC is it's arms; the legs look solid and pillar-like, designed for stomping, but the arms have a very weird bend in them at the elbow, which would look better if it was covered up by armor shell. -
If the Nixels are randomly packaged, how will LEGO check to see if the sets have all their parts?
-
Great. Another Evo. Let's hope he has a more interesting small mech than Breez does. Anyway, the Beast parts seem far more reusable than those used in the mechs. The seat could be used for another vehicle, but the canisters are nearly useless.

Something I don't understand: How is the blue cocoon attached to the Queen? If that picture from the "Making of" movie is accurate, she would have to use only two cocoon parts, making it incomplete.
-
Wow. You used parts that aren't merely obscure, but aren't even used by the more "creative parts usage"-oriented MOCcers, and managed to make it into a cohesive whole. Is that a Speedorz shell I see on it's shoulder.
-
If they had wanted to show how powerful the Queen is, they should have let more of the mechs survive. The ending as it is just gives an impression of her hand-to-hand combat abilities, but an actual demonstration in the form of a face-off would have been more impressive, although it would have required more time than the twelve hours they had. If preserving the original ending is what you want (and I am all for that), just having the Queen break the heroes' weapons and Evo's mech with ease would have sufficed. All things considered, they did a good job considering their time frame.

Five percent is still quite a lot, although I think only a small part (at most one fifth, although one twelfth seems more likely) is an action figure fan. It's still a much greater percentage than almost any other brand.

Yup, she does, in combination with a tr. neon green 3 length shell. It was already brought up earlier, though.

I don't like Surge's helmet one bit. It loses his unique extremely lengthened chin, making him look even more generic than Evo, although I do spot a blue modified plate to hold his data pad, which I think is new. I don't really care that much about Bulk's fig, and it looks pretty fitting in Crystal Beast's image. Speaking of which, if the eyes are as slit-like as they appear on that image, the printing will be pretty easy to cover up, so that's a plus. I like how the Anchor Machine uses a tr. blue gun barrel piece, as it'll help me with my IfB revamps. The look of Stormer on the Queen Beast's picture is pretty awkward, though, and the flame-like eye printing seems too close to the edge of the head piece for my liking. It also appears that calling the Combat Machine an bad moniker was incorrect. It has the most weapons of any vehicle, including a massive (relative to the figures) plasma gun, eight ten missiles and two of the smaller guns. So yeah, it can probably tear you to shreds. EDIT: Check out the shots of the locations in the mini-movie. Would anyone mind taking screenshots of them? I also just realized that you can see the Queen in the background of the other Beasts' bag art. It really makes you realize how huge they are. Just look around and get an impression of what twelve meters/forty feet really is, and you'll know the scale of the Kaiju Queen. Feel free to be scared once you consider that Jaw Beast is like a smaller, plucked T. Rex. EDIT2: I almost forgot. Turns out the cocoons have the axles attached to them, which means we won't have to worry about a lack of friction as much as we had to with some later Bionicle pieces.

Rattler Copter vs Fangpyre Wrecking Ball
DraikNova replied to Village80's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Rattlecopter. Lots of nifty-looking details, some nice and rare parts, such as the blade spinner add-ons in white (used as teeth), and a much more finished look than the Wrecking Ball. Plus, it's quite show-accurate. It's also very swooshable. -
That design has two faults: one, it just looks out of place with the sleeker aesthetics of HF pieces, two,it would make it extremely hard for the character using the design to hold things. It is probably the best one can do to make a smaller hand at the moment, though, and as a solution it's quite creative.

Ah, and the sillyness increases. It's so horrible, I just can't stop watching it. Which is why I am going to watch every episode of this undoubtedly successful train wreck-ing of sanity. It doesn't merely abandon logic, logic just doesn't feature in it one bit, which is why it's so amusing to see for me. What are your reasons for liking it?
-
It is, to use a phrase that will quite likely become overused as more and more people see it, awesome. Just so much lampshade hanging...Needless to say, I am quite hyped for the sequel already, and seeing what the culture of the will become, if the ending isn't retconned out. I predict that more "teenage stuff", like Technic and Hero Factory, will be popping up in the next movie.

I prefer the HF sets over both Mixels (although they could make good parts packs if I used System more often) and Chima. There are more creative designs, relying more on the ball joint system, which together means more of the stuff you need to build big stuff. And I like the general daikaiju genre, so the theme has an advantage there anyway. Mostly, I think that these builds, ironically enough, look a lot more natural than the slightly skeletal Chima figures, especially the avian ones, though I do appreciate the large amount of recolors present in Chima, especially the large amount of tr. light blue bones.
-
Actually, Laval's shield is just printed, so no, no tr. orange shield. I must disagree with you on the HF stuff. 2014 is probably HF's best wave, while this is basically last year, minus the cohesiveness of the good guys' colorschemes. Also, from the looks of it, Fangar and Fluminox (which should really be Phluminox, which not only looks cooler (pun not intended), but also makes more sense) come in boxes.

Vehicle heavy is an accurate description of most LEGO themes these days anyway. Only City has more buildings than vehicles, and that's because buildings are what makes the city. Going by the same logic, what constitutes the secret agent stereotype? Right, silly gadgets and cool cars/other modes of transport.

The "hands on" pun was really bad. But amusing. The idea of a more "Beast feet"-like hand design (possibly using two variations, one with thumb, one without for more bestial characters?) is an appealing one.

Retreat is a form of combat, isn't it? And from the looks of it, that's the one it's optimized for.
