42056 - Porsche Speculation
Thirdwigg replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Just give it time. -
Thanks for the pictures. There are some good looking trucks there. It's always nice to see some good Trial races and trucks. I'm really liking the Dark Grey one. Well done.

42056 - Porsche Speculation

I'm liking those wheel hubs. I was hoping to see the center axle hole, but the offset and internal diameter looks very good. -
I am in a little bit of a creative lull right now, so I decided I needed to make something small and quick. I very much enjoyed doing the quick build of the 911 I did earlier this year. There was something enjoyable about posting nightly, and watching how something comes together in the course of a week or two. Plus the feedback was enjoyable and contributed to a better MOC. So I decided to do a small tow truck: an International DuraStar. Since I have spent so much money on many pneumatic parts, but find myself decidedly in the Linear Actuator camp, I figured a MOC with pneumatics would be a good challenge. The MOC will feature: Steering Drive Fake motor Winch Crane Crane extension Car lift Final colors will be yellow with blue highlights. Here is the first WIP picture, and more will be posted nightly (roughly). Here we go!

[MOD] 9393 Updates
Thirdwigg replied to Thirdwigg's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's a great way to put it. Something about the front was missing. I like how yours turned out, and I like the visual connection to 8063. -
After a rather prolific March with three MOCs, including one that picked up a Hall of Fame nod, I'm finally back with another creation. After playing around with the 2012 set 9393, I figured I could improve it. So it did. Much more at thirdwigg.com, and you may find the full Flickr album here. Features: Steering Front Pendular Suspension 2 cylinder motor Front implement attachment point Rear implement attachment point Rear PTO Implements Implements Front Weights Front Furrow Front Snow Pusher Rear Mower Rear Harrow Rear Tiller Grain Cart with conveyor and folding auger Tiller Plow Original 9393 Mower Check out the links for more. I hope you enjoy, and happy building.

I had this same question a couple pages back. I still have no indication of a center axle hole. There are not many wheels without it. I'd like to be hopeful. -

A discussion that has not yet come up is the special features online that will be available after entering the car's unique serial number. Will it be anything significant, like instructions for a B model, or something less significant like access to more pictures of the development? -

No, I agree. A little longer, and the rear deck should be a little higher as well. Also, as other have said, it looks a little too low to the ground. -

Can anyone tell if the wheels have a center axle hole? Or can these wheels only be installed with a three pin hub mounting? -
I think @Cumulonimbus is spot on. Yes, 42056 is expensive. But much like 8880, eventually I will be sorry if I missed out on it as it costs me more fifteen years later. The value/cost crossover for me may be during a double VIP point promotion, or something like that. I don't need to order on June 1, but I will need to order before it is sold out: I'm following the limited availability discussion closely. Like, 8448, 8455, and 9396 I'll be sorry in ten years if I miss this one.

I originally thought that too, but seeing the function, I'm happy they did a gearbox they have not done before. The reality is that at this level of car the stick shift is going away.It does bother me the car is a four speed, but I understand the limitations and reasons for doing the four. -

That brake block seems little clunky to me. But so far, I am quite impressed. -

Maybe it's penitence for not giving us 2014 H1 until August. -

Thanks for the photos. This set is looking very good. -
Stunning. I love the look of the Dark Green, and the details: under the hood, in the cabin, the steering wheel, the grille, the bumpers and PTO's! Very well done indeed.
