Sadly I think the best chance of a train-related set this year is the Ideas 'Vintage Tram' (though I'd be more than happy with that, it's an excellent model!) - the City release pattern above seems logical and I agree that the Winter Village train decreases the chance of any non-City theme train set in the immediate future. Ah well, we've still had 12 trains in 8 years which isn't too bad going for a supposedly unpopular genre! Crossing all my fingers! :)

I agree that we're unlikely to see anything from the City theme for a while yet, though I'm a bit surprised that the station has gone so early. A possible ray of light are the occasional interlopers from other themes - we've had the Toy Story, Lone Ranger and Winter Village trains in the past six years. I obviously have no idea what new themes are coming up and those that can justify a train set are sadly few, but we can hope! However, I assume that, having produced steam, diesel and electric models, the Creator Expert run is at an end :(

If it's a small set then I've got a large tray that goes on my lap while I'm on the sofa. With larger sets I generally prefer sitting on our piano stool at the dining room table. No idea why that should be more comfortable than the proper dining chairs (which have backs!) but it works for me. I'm about to embark on building Tower Bridge, so my endurance for the piano stool is going to be thoroughly tested :)

The release cycle for Lego City trains appears to be four years for 1x Cargo, 1x Passenger with an extra Cargo following the year after, so we may be be waiting a while yet! However this is only based on past releases, Lego can do whatever they like! I'm still holding out for a new Creator Expert train one day....

Lego 4002016 - Limited Edition Employee Gift
PeteM replied to paul_delahaye's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Yes, I noticed that too - I suppose 7740 and 7745 never really hit iconic status outside of fans of the era (mind you, I don't really get all the love for the Metroliner so what do I know!)... -
Yep, in Europe the Winter Village set 'retires' at the end of the season and then (usually!) reappears the following year. So not the end of the world, but if you want it for this Christmas I'd get it soon...

Winter Holiday Train 10254 Powerfunctions elements
PeteM replied to jamzee's topic in LEGO Train Tech
If you're lucky enough to live near a Lego store then these are available there too - my local one keeps them in a little tray hidden away under the Technic sets. The IR receiver always seems to be the hardest to find... -
TRAIN TECH Help, General Questions & Talk to the Staff
PeteM replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
If you're patient you can sometimes get the straights and flexi pack for around 40% off, and there are four straights in station sets as well. Very infrequently you can also get a good deal on eBay, but you have to be lucky as everyone else is after straights as well!- 578 replies

Using 76057 Spiderman Ultimate Bridge Battle as a train bridge
PeteM replied to mostlytechnic's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I got mine 'new' on eBay without figures, so got two for less than the cost of one at RRP :) -
The prices are terrible - I'm still saving! Added to which, the train window piece appears to be discontinued so there's a reducing chance they'll appear in tan again to bring the prices down...

Using 76057 Spiderman Ultimate Bridge Battle as a train bridge
PeteM replied to mostlytechnic's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I'm glad someone else is doing this! I have two copies (and a lot of spare bricks) in order to mod them into a complete rail bridge (I'll work out how to get the trains up there later!). I have only built one so far and am experimenting with the necessary changes - raising the 'gates' and sorting out resulting problems with the chains, adding and anchoring track (12v) to the bridge deck etc. -
I'm hoping that might be Steam?

AKA - is that a bolting horse I can see? Better shut this door... Understandable I suppose, looking forward to the press release with (hopefully) a few more pictures and description.

I'm sure I read that the only way they could justify the cost for a new mould for the new large wheels was for the complete set to be in one, so it produces four flanged and two blind each time, even if the model doesn't require all six. Or something like that...

79110 MOD - Modular Train Tunnel - Wild West style
PeteM replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I had a similar idea, and even purchased two Silver Mine sets when they were on offer, but have yet to turn them in to anything so it's good to see what you made of it! :) -
As someone still clinging on to the 12v system, some compatible connectors would be very welcome ;) (I know that they won't be!) I'm also thinking unpowered but including track for the WV Train - similar contents to the Constitution set, though hopefully not in the same style....
-
Not really, but just to recap... City releases appear to have a four year pattern (2006 + 2010 + 2014) with a 'bonus train' thrown a year later for the last two (2011 + 2015) so I'd be surprised if we see anything until 2018. It's all gone very quiet on the Creator train front - just a supposition, but possibly due to the fairground sets taking the 'slot'? Again, it could be a long wait... And finally - the much rumoured Winter Train! I suppose we're just waiting for confirmation/pictures - looking back at past WV sets, there is usually a heads-up in late May, followed by a full reveal in late July/early August, so hopefully we'll get something soon :) Is there a thread elsewhere on EB about the new PF?

As reported further up this thread by nesquik, but good to hear it from another source :)

Many thanks for the comprehensive review! I had already decided to buy it and got it today (double points!) - sadly I have resolved to put it in a cupboard and only bring it out when I can build it with my daughter. She's just turned two now and it may be some time before I see it again, so thank you for allowing me to experience it vicariously!

It's not even official that anything will be released at all! But fingers crossed...

Indeed - which is why licensed properties do so well as they (along with Lego itself) are a pop culture hook for the non-Lego websites, a shortcut to familiarity which drives easy clicks and advertising revenue for those sites. Sadly this is why Trains are much more of an uphill struggle to get anywhere near the requisite number - not impossible, but much harder. I will always vote for a good train idea, but it's so sad that they don't get the attention that (I think) they deserve...

The annual event at Swindon Steam museum in October is quite good for trains, and there's lots of other good stuff mixed in there as well :)
-
At last, a solid rumour! ;-) I've not really taken to any of the City trains since 7938 so, in the continued absence of a detailed set in the Creator Expert line, I'll take whatever I can get! Noting that train sets are now sadly a niche audience (relative to other Lego themes), this being on the books could be why we didn't get an Expert set, in order to avoid 'flooding' a limited market... If it's true... :)

Think it of it more as a price correction - now we're all paying the same (roughly - Denmark and New Zealand excluded)! In the UK this is one of the cheaper Modulars...
