Thanks! Hopefully it stays that way... Thanks! Yeah, it does look a bit like a sandbox doesn't it... Thanks!

Great idea, though I don't think the Hanging Gardens were actually up-side down... more likely suspended in baskets or what have you. Anyways, great job, the micro-figs especially add a great touch!

It is with sorrow I hear of the death of Dugal, as it seems Gaius (MK) has taken steps to insure Merith's safety I trust she will soon be in good hands. Is it possible that she could know some of the plans of Petera? Me thinks the utmost care must be taken that such a strong and important city does not fall to Victor or join his cause! Out of character... I am a bit behind on my story actually, Victor hasn't taken Cedrica yet... just have two builds to go but I'd better move on because I can't do Challenge VI until that's done (unfortunately I am a bit bogged down as far as writing goes with a pile of reports I need to do within the month...), but anyway I have started building for Challenge VI so that's good. And I finished the mini-challenge but that also hinges on my story - probably a good thing as it will force me to write before the tenth. But anyway, as soon as I get to that point in the story, if Mikel needs any assistance Ageven would be happy to help. -
Actually I don't think it makes too much difference where you put the dark tan. I'd just suggest you combine the two a bit more; since you're near the great escarpment I'd expect canyon like layers and, as has been pointed out, it's not always darker on the bottom, it depends on how the water layered it as it came down, water pressure converting it into rock, etc. How was the Great escarpment created anyways? You've got some good action and fig posing in the MOC, especially great how you took the time to set up different scenes. Using the sleepyhead face for Dugal especially worked well! If you did have more tan plates they could create some nice texture, but that could well not be an option. And in story, this is very sad news, the suspense you've set up is great though! Especially interesting the difference between Dugal's letter and Petera's portrayal here of the event. At what point did Dugal write the letter though? He writes as though already wounded, but by the looks of it he didn't have time... The top trees look good sans figs, but when you add the figs on the top it does bring their height more into contrast. Not a big deal though, I think.

Actually, haven't only two died? (Still, why would you kill your character?)

I'd love to find the Rattlecopter 50% off... nice find! And I see I'm not the only one who has no idea what to do with their lime green... -

I agree with that exactly, it's like the difference between hanging a picture on your wall all by itself and sticking it on inside a frame. The picture may be nice, but a frame does add to it! (Not to disagree with the others, the MOC itself is the biggest thing, and a good MOC doesn't need a superb border. In fact it's interesting to think about the difference: without a border you kind of imply continuity nature, non-man-made objects, basically the entire MOC just melts into a much broader scene. Maybe I'm reading to much into it, but it is one reason I chose not to put a border on my Through the Desert, for example.) -
I think it's good to keep it a mix of both fires, the smaller one is nice, but it does give something of a windy/drafty impression, whereas the larger one is more of a nice, steady flame (though too big for a candle, it's more what I would want for a torch). And just in general, I think it fits better with the way this theme is going.

Well, there's not too much to say about this one, I guess I went a little overboard adding words... But I love sandy builds, so this was the natural thing for me to do! Comments are welcome, and thanks for taking the time to check this out!

Guilds of Historica Introduction/General Discussion Thread

I use a base-plate most of the time (for anything bigger than a vig, that is). It may be a bit uncreative and it does have it's limitations, but it's also easier to remove pieces afterwards. I have used 6x12 dark tan plates several times as well though, since I have 6 of them and it's a pretty neutral color that works well for interiors (where a green base-plate would be completely out of place. Honestly I'm not much of a fan of irregular bases. It does look nice enough (as nice as any other kind of base), but I wouldn't want to spend the extra time and effort necessary to make one when I don't think it's any better than your average ordinary base-plate. DG did mention that sticking out rocks or what-have-you a stud from the base-plate makes it look more natural (as far as not having everything grow out of the green), but then of course you have to completely cover the base. I have done that since then though (but not in a GoH build). And I'm trying to use SNOT in some smaller vigs, but the main problem with that is that you have to attach the bottom of two bricks together - which depending on the space you have might not be very hard, but this last vig I did (I haven't uploaded it yet and it's not GoH) is just not attached. (May I remark in passing that wind is extremely, I mean extremely annoying when it comes to photographing an 8x8 with a lot of balance involved? Especially the kind of wind there is here, it practically lifted the entire thing up into the air...) -
Am I allowed a two plate overhang (each side) for a SNOT border? Thanks!

Nice scenes, the snow one especially! Can't wait to hear more of what happens in the story!

Battle pack is likely $15 USD. Not 100% sure, perhaps someone can confirm? Edit: I guess it could be $12. But in general, battle packs are 15 The carriage would be $30, Comanche Camp $20, Colby City Shootout $40 (possibly 50?) Mine $60-70, Train $80 (one of the ones I'm least sure on though). Again, I believe those are the prices, but don't bet on it.

Nice work! I agree with others that you could make the battlements higher, but they actually are pretty high already, one thing that would help is if you didn't zoom in so much on your pictures but left a nice white space around the MOC. I guess you'd probably be running off the sheat of paper but it shouldn't be too hard to fix that. So far though, you've got some nice texture, though what you could do is just build the front wall and imply that this is just a section of your castle. Like Mikey B commented you're showing more attention to the landscaping but I still would suggest you make the inside floor of your castle something other than green (yes, real castles had a courtyard, but they were usually a bit bigger... ). Anyway, you've definitely improved, keep it up!

Ondylion has fallen! I hope Valholl will be spared the same fate! Great re-creation of the scene though, I love the burning section especially!

You could send him to Ondylion before it was attacked... then make him have to hide out until the battle is over and Victor's troops have moved on... -

That gatehouse looks nice, not as is, but I like the pieces and a black helm ! Always need more 1x2 brown tiles too... The small one also has some nice pieces, so, all things considered, I think those will be the two I end up with... though I could use a dragon, but that one looks to large-piece-ish, besides coming in such a pricey set...
-
Yeah, I can totally understand that! If you do have them though, you'd be amazed what a few of these can do with something stuck in the middle (e.g., I used them here. Of course, I'm biased, but I think they turned out really good! )!
