MOC: BR Class 02 Shunter - First Train MOC - 8 Wide
Rail Co replied to Defaultsound's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Looks good! Only suggestion I have is make it be able to pull cars! It has no couplers! Other than that Great First MOC -
Yep, I went from me EN in 2009 to 8-9 trains in 2014 and a truck load of track. Plan on getting the new city trains soon.

The flex tracks are not my favorite, the only thing they help with is if you need a 1/2 or 1/4 piece of track. Also yes once you lay down that track you never go back, but remember they are really fun and they gain a lot of value. Enjoy your train! -RailCo

Trying to get a hold of the Metroliner
Rail Co replied to Rail Co's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I have looked at bricklink I am just looking for a U.S. seller that has a complete preferably used (as the cheapest I have seen is $400 new) set, just so i don't have to pay ridiculous shipping costs. -
As I never got the me-models Metal track when it was first released (I will get some when they do release it). I was wondering if you could use the me-models track with the 12v center rail and still conduct power on both pieces! Then the ultimate piece of track would be born "The Universal Track" If anyone has both of these pieces I am curious to see if that would work! Keep Brickin' -RailCo [EDIT]: If the 12v center piece is to low you raise it by 1-2 1x2 plate! I hope that works for you guys as I cannot test it myself!

The Red one or the official name "Red Cargo Train" was a limited edition run model that had a red battery box. It's number is 3677. I enjoy it very much but it came with no switch tracks. Here is a link to just a plain search for "3677" on BrickLink: http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?viewFrom=sa&q=3677&searchSort=P&sz=25

Hey Guys! I have been looking for a Metroliner for awhile but they all come from another country (which makes shipping costs equal half the train!). I am wondering If anyone is selling a complete metroliner (usually aren't complete either) in the USA. I know there is a Buy/Sell/Trade forum but as everyone here are into trains I think it fits here better Thanks Guys! -RailCo

Well as you are just starting out it all depends on what you want to do and how you want to build on your collection! If you want something with a lot of play value get one of the cargo trains. If you want something that looks nice but needs PF (easy to add). My first train that I got to get started was the Emerald Night package. Even though it came with no track I bought 2 of the packs and went from there (now I have what 8 trains and too much track). Though they do not sell the track pack that i got anymore so it is really hard now to get the curved track separately from a set. Honestly the best train to get started with is one of the cargo trains (or passenger ones) as they have track and at least a loop of track with a switch or two. So all in all choose what YOU want, your the one paying and enjoying these so it's up to you but honestly the Cargo trains give you the most track. Welcome to the train family! -RailCo

Hey Guys! I am sure many of you have most likely already done this but I still wanted to share! Ever since I got my Emerald Night I always thought the battery box looked so out of place. So i had tried flat tiles which didn't work. So I thought just to make is look like a rocky coal bed! Coal for a more realistic look on the Emerald night by Railco1, on Flickr There is a 4x4 plate at the back for easy removal to turn on the train with ease! Side view of the tender by Railco1, on Flickr The side view is a little odd (as the height is different), but I like it. Sorry for glare didn't have the best of lighting. Hope you guys like it! -RailCo

Hmmm. Make sure the cables are all properly connected to the IR receiver and Battery Box. Make sure you have checked all your batteries are fresh. Try it on and off the track. Also check that the receiver is on the right channel as the remote (#1 mistake by me ). Also if you have more battery boxes/motors/receivers you can test different combos to see which piece isn't working/ faulty. Hope any of these suggestions work! -RailCo

If the batteries are still draining very quickly you may need to contact Lego about the motor. As for wheel spin, you can use O-Rings for better traction than the bands around the normal wheels. Here are a couple of pictures: Use O-rings for traction by Railco1, on Flickr Small change but big difference in performance by Railco1, on Flickr Hope this may remove your problem with wheel slip and get your trains more traction! Have fun with your train! -RailCo

WOW Thanks for sharing! This would be great with my limited space! Just wish that there were instructions on how to make it that compact with out showing any exposed motors, batteries, etc. Also Not only is the train amazing but how did he make that switch track is another question? Thanks For sharing! -RailCo [EDIT] If you guys so his channel you can see the basic idea how he did it! amazing idea for using a sideways train motor.

Anyone have 12V train motors they are willing to part with?
Rail Co replied to rogul's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I wish I had 12v motors! I am in search for 9v motors at the moment (with me-models new track). Not to steal your post but I need 9v motors! Good Luck on your search! -RailCo -
Wow Looks really good! Honestly I am not the best person to say with this loco (as I am not familiar with it). I would say go for another 2 studs, just because in the real picture it looks like a long locomotive. Just my 2 cents it's your loco and your the one to build and enjoy it! Great job! Looking forward to the fully finished model! -RailCo

Turntable for your train layout ? Need it - I do....
Rail Co replied to Henrik Ludvigsen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Wow I would love to see that as a lego set with or without the round house/engine shed! Good luck to him/her! -
They do look better longer it all depends if you are willing to pay for it and how it looks! If do happen to buy an extra or two and you are not wanting the extra end cars I would love to take one off your hands (Meaining buy it) Good Luck -RailCo

I am not sure I am familiar with Bullfrog Snot. What I have done to help traction is using O-rings on the regular train motors I am sure there is a bigger ring to go around the wheels, and if they are to thick you could shave them down. It be much easier for us to help you with a picture of the loco and what you have tried! Good Luck! -Railco

Love the engine and the style of boiler! The train cars look good. Keep up the good work -RailCo

I think everyone can agree the 3rd re-run of the metroliner, maybe even revamped to use newer parts. There is enough room in the drive unit for PF parts I believe!

Hey guys I am wondering if anyone knows why there is a center hole/slot in all train motors. 2014-08-07_09-26-42 by Railco1, on Flickr I know they were i believe originally for the 12v motor but is there any use for the middle slot now? If so how could I use them (ex. Shunters) Thanks Guys! -RailCo
-
Looks great! Amazing Build, My question is why the lights shine on top of the driving wheels
-
Well you already have the box open your halfway there! These sets were meant to be opened and enjoyed, not to stay in a box forever on a shelf! Enjoy it! Have fun with it! -RailCo
