Mainly the ship exteriors... We're due for a magnificent pirate ship on the Classic Pirates Instagram. And some close-ups...

Are there higher resolution images available? It's a magnificent vessel but 800x600 images are just too small for social media.

[OL-FB] Large Wooden Fort in Tarlor
Mister Phes replied to CapOnBOBS's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
It's not a bad thought and for posting in the forum it doesn't look too bad! But we'd be interested in featuring this MOC on the Classic-Pirates.com Instagram in the future and images MOC work so much better when the MOC fits comfortably within the frame. -

I would like to make a minor criticism about the framing... The presentation is excellent aside from the fact the bottom corner is cut off and there's not much negative space (I.e. plain background) between the flag and top of the frame. You've got negative space on the left and right, but for some reason the top and bottom margins have been neglected. -

THE SET... I really wanted to create a historical event or scene that is not that known to most people in lego, so I decided I'd try this... The Easter Island Voyage! It is a recreation of the first Europeans, the Dutch, being the first to discover Easter Island in 1722. Later, others soon explored Easter Island, Such as the Spanish, Captain Cook of England, and the French. And of course, what most astounded these explorers were the giant Easter Island Head monoliths, also known as Moai. The Islands original inhabitants, the Pacific islanders of polynesia, built these mysterious Moai heads. While the Dutch called it Easter Island, the islands native inhabitants named it Rapa Nui. The set idea includes shore line, the coastal waters, and a display border. Please note this submission has expired and voting is no longer available. THIS SET CONTAINS... An Easter island/moai head (it wouldn't be Rapa Nui without one!)... A black dutch row boat... An islanders red canoe... A cave that contains a barrel, a straw mat, and a wooden pole to support the roof. The home of an islander. MINIFIGURES... An islander... A Dutch Captain... Dutch navigator Jacob Roggeveen... Hope you like the idea and support so this historical event can be made in lego! It can be used for play and display. It contains exactly 776 pieces.

Thank ye! It appears he's posting one new MOC per year.

I wasn't saying it was sinful, rather this approach (infusing history and technology) doesn't appeal to Classic purists like myself. We'd prefer to see the classic themes reimagined for a modern audience... and that was achieved quite successfully with Pirates of Barracuda Bay. The new aesthetic has inspired AFOLs to create MOCs and new versions of classic sets in that same building style. So we'd prefer to see more official sets continuing along that trajectory, rather than taking the SciFi or action figure path.

That's a matter of perspective. If you're a Classic purist then it's a bastardization of one the core LEGO themes, which in recent times, has infiltrated other "Classic Era" themes. E.g. Ninja's modern incarnation, Ninjago. But that's not say they're bad, rather; infusing technology and history is more appealing to the younger generations, hence why there are perennial Ninjago set releases. I.e. the sales are strong in the target demographics.

At a later time I may verbalise this into something more intelligible.
