1 ship half done. 50 pirate themed men and 4 women. 2 large ships, 3 merchant ships, 1 port, 1 fort, same amount of men, many more women, and a Swiss family type tree house. No sets unless LEGO starts a new pirate theme. BSB Working on a ship now and will be starting one in August. None yet. None. Minnesota! I am a castle, mecha/scifi, and pirate collector in that order. Pirate is really just an extra little thing I enjoy because of the many sets I had as a child. It is a nice diversion for when I am in a piratey mood.

http://www.brikwars.com Though using the brikwars rules could be too complicated they also have an index of other LEGO battle games out there. A decent resource for ideas at least. I would love to see what you come up with. I am looking at doing the same eventually and having a somewhat easy rule set would be great.

When you share something like this try to include a picture or at least a link. A lot of people don't have time to go tracking down websites or pictures of everything posted. Not saying that you have to post a link but it sure is helpful and lets other people find out what you are talking about instead of just ignoring it and checking on what is coming up next. If LEGO does make an Indy series it would probably be just three or four sets similar to the Avatar or Spongebob sets. Something smaller that would sell well and if it turned out to be a dud the they would at least break even because of the name.

Classic Castle- What Makes it So Good?
SuvieD replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Catapults, knights and Robinhood. That is what made it great for me. Action and adventure with swords and siege. Nothing else matters to an eight year old. I think with all the new and better parts a new classic would be easy to make. No stories, no space knights, just plain sets, with plain bricks, a few features, some nice figures and some good accessories would make a great set. I really do think the latest castle sets (except that stupid new 10176) are indeed the best castle sets created in the last 15 years. If they had a few dozen bricks included in each set they would be even better. -
The ship is nice and useful. You don't see many ships designed as non-leathal. The colors I am not the most fond of. Too much gray or maybe it is the way you have it designed. I just don't like the way the colors look. The shape of the ship is nice though and your engines look really nice. I am a fan of the light blue windscreens on space ships but many people don't as it reminds them of town sets too much. I like the air tube for the captain, it is very creative. The way you left some studs exposed and others covered let you know it is futuristic and at the same time a LEGO MOC. Overall nice job. Maybe a little more dark gray or even some black might look nice. The captain should invest in a small blaster though. ;-) MOC on!

I know! *wub* That is one of the great things about it. It is like buying a bag of sand knowing that with a little sifting you will find gold! A true treasure hunt. ;-)

Chivalry has everything to do with knights though. Romaticized chivalry (King Arthur stuff) is somewhat taken into todays culture though. Opening doors, walking on a certain side of the street, loyalty and virtue and much more could be applied to the modern use. Without going to deep into any of it I suppose it has its place. It is a made up concept great for stories and a worthy goal to be sure but it is usually never achieved. The proper way of treating woman and other people in general is and always will be important. I think things like uprightness, virtue, selflessness, courtesy, and respect are all things everyone should be concerned with. Lofty goals that we set and work to achieve. As far as women are concerned I am not sure. Some women are better than others I suppose. For superficial or meaningful reasons both. A woman who demands to be put on a pedastool will never be happy and one who doesn't even want to be noticed may deserve it. I would say to be a man of chivalry you must put something first and yourself second. Arthur and his knights swore oaths in the stories like "For the Christ, and for the king" and often did great feats for thier lady. Contemporary chivalry is based on christian ideals told in fantasy stories that were rewritten numerous times. Many people say chivalry is dead and for the part I agree. Bottom line treat others as you want to be treated; respectfully, honestly, and as a person having value. Take chivalry to what extremes if you want, I have found that it is best to travel in the road instead of the ditch on either side.

That is the best! Power up . . . BAM, six hit combo! :-P I think maybe the penalties are more severe for football because unlike US football or hockey the players have little in the way of protection. Kicks or in this case headbutts could mean serious injury where as in hockey even after taking a hard rubber puck to the chest they simply just keep on skating. Soccer is really more of a live drama. The way some of those players act when they are "hurt" is hilarious. I wish we had more football here in the US. Playing as a child was great especially the year we went undefeated. While in Germany it was on the TV nearly every night and it was fun to watch. Much more interesting than basketball or golf which get considerable airtime in the US. Not that I watch TV much anyway but it would be nice to watch a game of soccer once in a while instead of a few games every four years.

I am really drawn to all things Fabuland. It is beyond me to attempt buying them though. They are simply too expensive. I really like this Gyl. The look is very matching the Fabuland scheme and the extra figures help make the moc even more interesting. You have quite the keychain collection. Is it complete yet?

Well as far as Pirates theme only then you must consider the largest of the sets with this fort. At 892 pieces the Skull's Eye Schooner realeased in 1993 is the largest set LEGO made. It has a crew of nine pirates and sold for roughly twice that of the Eldorado fortress. It has five cannons of which could all be used on a target at one time. This ship could easily out gun the fort and if it came to landing and bringing the fight to land it would probably win due to the fact that the nine pirates plus the two included in the fort would be more than enough to best the six guards. Not to mention the pirates have a monkey which is like having an extra dozen men. ;) I owned the fort as a child and it was small even then. it could hold it's own against the likes of rafts but the larger ships were too much for it. Were the fort place on a larger raised baseplate or even a flat one and given more soldiers and another 200 pieces or so for building it could be the be all end all. As it sits now it is not. I am not saying you could just say well they could have made one bigger. Any set can claim that. What I am saying is that even within the Pirate theme the imperials never got the support or fortress needed to fend off pirates. You can have your opinion on this and argue a point until death but most people I think would say that the imperials could have and probably should have had the larger fort. If not a fort then at least a ship the matches the size of the grand pirate vessels.

I am five for the fifth time and enjoying every minute of it. :-D I really like getting a good deal on parts lots. I once bought 30 lbs of "used" parts for $4 a lb plus shipping. It ended up being 80% new starwars and harrypotter parts with some very nice rare older parts. One trick I forgot to mention is the price trick. Nearly everyone has $20 to spend on ebay but not everyone has $200. If you hold off on your spending for a while you can get a nice large lot with much more than you would with several small lots for the same price. Harder to do, but it can and usually does pay off. The only negative is that many of the people selling on BL and ebay itself buy up large cheap lots to resell so competition can be steep. They know how much they can make off of a lot and are usually willing to out spend the average personal use buyer.

It doesn't have the size needed baseplate wise or visually. I still think LEGO needed the larger baseplate size fort. Why would a trading post take up more space than a fort designed to guard it? Besides, it is an island fort. Harder to build, ship material too and maintain. A land fort would not have those problems and as a result size would be expected and not just a luxury. The defense are too limited. There is not enough fire power to defend a port from numerous enemies and ships. A larger fort with a round tower on the waterline could much more easily. Also as an island if they were cut off from supplies/reenforcements the soldiers would die too quickly and easily. There is not enough storage space. The larger castles and pirate ships had 800-900 pieces in them and a minimum of eight figures. The largest fort should as well.

I like the look very much. I am confused about the cannons though. Vikings didn't use them, did they? The ship looks great though. It fits the name perfectly and the little details are nice too. It would probably tip over in a strong wind as these types of ships sit high in the water but it has cannons so this isn't for realism anyway right? Cool look ship.

I have one in decent condition I want to get rid of. PM me if you are interested in buying it from me. It has a few extra parts and figures. Don't waste time with ebay buy from people you know. ;-) Oh and Kenji, how old are you?

Another 9 Custom Castle Minifig auctions on the Block
SuvieD replied to wlister's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Being well know doesn't increase sales anyway. It might help make friends but once money is involved people either care or don't. Post count will have nothing to do with it at that point. A few people will boycott on principle but to most people it really doesn't matter. If the price is right people will look and buy. I have sold and purchased from Will in the past and I can say he is a good person with some nice creations. Best wishes in your selling and may your return to the enjoyment of building come quickly. -
Go with white. It looks nicer. Not sure where you are located gobally but open a Bricklink account if you don't have one and buy some small bricks from the country you are in or one near you. They sell cheap. 1x1 or 1x2's can be found for around or even less than a cent a piece. $10 including shipping is more than enough to pimp your MOC. If you are in the US send me a PM with what you need and I will get you some bricks for cheap. The shape is looking really nice. It does need some touch ups though. Details will help but I think like Phes a few brisks here and there would be enough to give it the proper look. MOC on!

Good advice. You can also look to bid on items during summer verses any other time as people are getting rid of stuff during spring cleaning but everyone wants to be outside to enjoy the weather. Some holidays are good times to look. Avoid buying on weekends (starting with Friday evening). Also not the most fruitful but look for the most recently posted buy it now (BiN) auctions. Deals are there to be found as not everyone prices their stuff at top dollar for BiN. Most do but I have seen MISB sets sell for a fraction of the cost it could have and I myself have gotten a a few really nice used bulk LEGO deals for much less than if I had not used BiN. If the seller is offering numerous BiN you can also get them to give you deal on them by asking nicely. A lady had five buy it nows of about 6-8 lbs each for $25 each. That is a good deal on its own, but I asked her if she would give me one of them free if I bought the other four. It saved her time to only have to ship to one person so she did. Best advice for ebay is be patient. Deals are to be had and suckers are born every minute. Wait and you will find good prices. Jump on the first thing you see and you will pay too much. Happy sniping!

I didn't get to watch the match but I saw the part where Zidane headbutts that guys chest and I thought it was kind of funny. I mean in the US when an arguement breaks out the first thing they do is throw a punch or start pushing. I guess the whole no arms rules for football is important even when fighting. X-D Should he have behaved better? Sure. Was what he did totally uncalled for? Maybe. Was headbutting the jerk right to the ground for bad talking his mom worth any red card or penalty? I am sure it was. In the NFL if a ref hears that kind of talk the player doing it is in trouble. Taunting is what makes most sports fun but on the professional level with pressure so high it really has no place. That guy got what was coming to him probably. Go Zidane!

I only found one SW set, the walker and even then only at 10% off. Most of the KK2 stuff is clearance or gone. Bionicle is still a plenty. The playsets are actually full of system parts in cool colors like dark blue and dark red so at 50% off they are a good deal I think. I haven't had a chance to check out Toys R Us lately though but I will be this Wed. so hopefully they have something either clearance or new.

How do you categorize/sort your bricks?
SuvieD replied to WhiteHexagon's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Allowed? No you can make many for the same thing. But Admins will delete them as it clogs up the forums and steal needed space for the site. It is also not considered proper form and in some cases it is rude. Not to mention common sense will tell you that having two identical topics at the same time is simply not needed. However, the admins don't want people going digging in the old posts and reviving them either. To be safest and most courteous simply check the first few pages for the topic you want to start a new thread for. If you don't see one then feel free. If by chance there is another but it wasn't clearly labeled or something the admins or mods will simply close a duplicate and often times rename a thread to be more clear. Common sense and respect are the keys. Use them both and life works well. ;-)
