  1. LEGO is long over due to make an series like this. I really wish they would. Maybe even an ancient culture theme starting with Egypt, then Persian, then Greek, and finally Roman. The simple yet mostly accurate look is nice and it is a shame it is not in LEGO. Playmo has always been a great toy though. Second only to LEGO really. The nice thing is that they always follow suit eventually. If LEGO releases sets (non-futuristic) Playmo comes out with a similar theme not too long after and vice versa. So here is hope for 2008 Roman LEGO!
  2. It is a good start but as you indicated you clearly ran out of parts to make it really nice. It needs some deck railings, and perhaps a crew for starters. The best way to get a lot of parts to build what you want is to PM people like me who need to get rid of a couple ten thousand of them so they can walk in the basement again. I have little in the way of pirate figures and accessories left now but a few plus plenty of pieces and you could easily be on your way to a nice collection. So please I beg you PM me with a list of what you are looking for and about what you can spend. I will get you plenty of pieces and at price you will like.
  3. A simple and fast looking ship. No need for all the extra details or ornaments, it fits a purpose and is more realistic for it. Nicely done.
  4. I am not sure if I am heading for a dark age. I never really had one though. I usually do everything in spurts. It has come time for change though. After this Friday I will no longer have a job. I have decided to go to school and if able to do it debt free. This requires saving most of what I have made over the last year or so and nearly everything I will make (once I get a part time job) for the next four years. I really am not so much taking a break as I do that naturally but letting something else consume my time. But I will be buying much less. Like many of you though, I really don't care for what LEGO is doing right now with sets. They are sort of fad like. In fact there are only a handful of parts I will be getting this year. A return to classic castle or space type stuff would certainly change that but only marginally as even if I wanted them funding will not apply leaving me with only with gifts or selling LEGO to get more LEGO. Don't give up building though Sne. You have a great style and a unique way to build. Best of all you like space so we know you are smart. Maybe buy less and build more. You could even start a community type project or standard. Phes is suffering from a little burnout also. I would say the two of you should take a little time off and refresh your batteries. If you decide LEGO just isn't for you any more then you can just move on in life. If you realize how much you enjoy it and that you had too much for too long or maybe you started looking at it in the wrong way then just change your approch. I have two pages full of thumbnail doodles related to space and mecha that I have not had the time to bring to life. So no dark age for me, just a dark age on my wallet for quite a few years. Though I need to decide where to trim the LEGO fat, I will probably pass on my used old bricks to my future grand children. LEGO has never lost them magic. Good and bad designs will come and go but imagination and excitement are the true basis of building enjoyment. If one or both fade no set will ever look very good.
  5. Since when do "fans" bow down to LEGO execs? What kind of garbage is this? New sets are coming and yes info will be made available eventually but not even a text description or podcast like last year. Lame. *n* Obviously, there is something castle coming. I am sure all or most of the admin know about it. They probably know about everything that was shown by now. I am going to try and stay out of threads like this from now on though. I would rather know up front or be surprised when I see it in the store. As it is right now and is becoming a trend you can see that LEGO is willing to spill the beans but only to a select few and certainly not to the public. I know it is important to guard information from competitors but this is going a little too far if everyone in attendance has to sign NDAs. Anyway, I am going to go take pics of my mecha, build my boat, pack my bricklink orders and paint my railing. I am past the point of too much LEGO anyway. This year I spent considerably less and next year will probably be next to nothing. Which is a pleasant thought as regardless of what is coming out I won't have anxiety about it. If you know what is coming share it with my privately. At least then I know whether I should sell a kidney or pick up a paper route to have a litlle extra available.
  6. This one seems too cluttered almost. the water garden is elegant and simple but this looks like someone built the house in the densest jungles of Brazil. The house itself look great and there are plenty of techniques used well here. Sadly though they went for a nearly studless design in everything. not as bad as space does but it loses some of that LEGO feel. I do envy those plant parts a wee bit but when I think about what it must have cost to get them I lose that feeling right away.
  7. Ah . . . memories of atari come flooding back to me. Qbert how I loved and hated thee! Nice vig and construction. Spot on with the colors and the lollipops though a little small really convey the lifters.
  8. I finished up my mecha but need to take some pictures still. I will try to get it up tonight and post my entry tomorrow.
  9. I don't like this much. The French would never drive something like this nor have it painted to look like a flag instead of a racer. It looks like you stuck hands on it just because. Plus there is no helmet or other safety gear. Either the driver is insane or stupid. Also the mascot isn't funny. Of course that is my opinion. Final verdict = remake and with purpose.
  10. The raiders better not be the new "dino hunters" line. I hope they are like the adventurers line or like the older raiders. Things I am predicting for this line regardless of what it is: -Mermaids- LEGO always uses a mold for more than one set if they can, Harry only had one set with them so I expect to see more of them in a new set. This seems like the best choice. -Yellow parts- for whatever reason underwater sets at least for the good guys always have yellow parts, Alpha team, divers, the creator sub all of them have a strong focus on yellow. Unless this is a huge departure I think it is safe to say a strong yellow colored theme. What I would really like to see is a researcher figure, a pilot figure, a leader figure and a mechanic figure. Something along the lines of Futron, with each position having a different color and purpose. They could excavate ocean floors and coral reefs, discover shuken pirate ships loaded with gold and fight off new age "pirates" and see monsters/animals. A heavy focus on exploration and adventure instead of fighting or monstor battling.
  11. If I like anything I build a lot, I will display it for a while, regardless of theme. Otherwise, it just becomes more parts for something else.
  12. This guy looks kind of like a hybrid predator/super shredder. Sort of the impish hellspawn type of look. I don't collect them so I really dont care about them much at all anyway but this looks preety cool. I like the Piraka and I loved the Rakashi before I bought one and realized half the parts were not even hard plastic. Though I very much refrain from buying any bionicle at any price now. I am not sure why people dislike the Vahki though. The parts a good hard plastic and other than the somewhat silly head the parts are all usable and in cool colors. I think too many of the 14 year olds on BZP whine about this kind of stuff because the older ones do and not because they don't like the figures. These new figures are a drastic improvement over the original 2001 stuff. Yes, they have faults but on the whole will be better than what came before them.
  13. KK2 isn't so bad as people say. It certainly sells well so there must be something to it. Though some people don't like the monocolored knights from the first year of it I don't mind them at all. They allow for more fantasy in the castle world. Perhaps they are the elaborately painted honor guard for the king, or an astroid crash landed and when mixed with iron produced a special red metal that is very light and hard. Realistic they are not but neither are the nearly six foot long silver broadswords. Life is realism enough for me, when I sit down with my hobby I want to get away from the tedious and stressful. Let my mind imagine and dream up new ideas. Peeling away the stress of a day so when my alarm goes off and I look out my window at the rising sun I can appreciate the real more. Oh, and Black Knights are DUMB! :-D X-D Ninja and Wolfpack RULE! ;-)
  14. I usually won't modify a perfectly good part. Old and cruddy parts a perfect for change though. I have made some exceptions. I have cut some parts that were not worth keeping in the original state as they were unusable for what I wanted. Parts like cattle horns had to be cut until the recent introduction of the viking horns. Cutting baseplates is fine also as it merely the difference in that you cut it that way verses some machine doing it. But destroying some basic parts like plates, slopes, arches, tiles or bricks does not sit well with me. Doing so often completely weakens the piece from durable to a must be cautious as this will break if you look at it sternly. I do think that if you need to modify a part such as in the train example you gave then I say go for it though. It is your toy, build with it how you want to! Most of the common sense parts are being introduced in the last few years with an emphasis on the smaller ones like the new slopes. I see this as a continuing trend. My newest parts to mod are the weapons from last years bionicle playsets. They were designed to work with the one piece molded figures and as such are mostly cruddy. I few little cuts though and they are looking very space-agey and nice. Plus some of the ends look like nifty scifi blasters, so I get two great weapons instead of one.
  15. I like the overly large hat sizes and I will now be tempted to hack at all of my numerous 4+ pirates. It's nice to see that you found us here Mr. Dulin. Perhaps you could post a a little montage to help builders get aquainted with your LEGO works up until now. Or as Phes recommends spread them out a little and make a post about your MOCs one a week or so. Have a veteran ship builder and all around pirate theme guru will help this be an even better forum. See you around.
  16. Nintendo DS handheld system uses a free online method for people to play games with each other. For some games (not all of them) you need to have a friend code to enter into your system to play with people online. Each game has it's own code. Common games using this are ACWW or Animal Crossing MK or Mario Kart MPH or Metroid
  17. I wonder if LEGO taked Lucas into allowing them to make figure packs. I know Hasbro previously had exclusive rights but now that the movies are done maybe LEGO has the rights to make figures for sale. It would be pretty nice if they did. It would be even better if they made every figure they have yet made available eventually. I would even think they could easily sell them for $3 or more each. Demand is obviously high enough and though it might be kind of crappy for second hand sellers who bought sets just to make profit it would benefit so many collectors/army builders.
  18. No flesh tones for me. Not one. I own some but I will not for long and any I buy are instantly for sale. So for me your first few figs are too ugly to look at. :-X ;-) However, the second two inspired by WoT are very nice. I really like the look they have. Now back to my dungeon to finish my boat.
  19. That price is in Euros. You mean Europeans have to pay five Euros for an xpod?!? X-O That is too much! It makes me glad to live where I do. We only pay $3.50 for the current ones and I am hoping the new ones also.
  20. Classic space moonbase, cargo containers for a train or ship, a brick globe, use them as filler in a landscape, build a magazine rack or an end table, box them/weigh them/list them/send them to the highest bidder, donate them to a charity or school, or . . . Send them to me. I will find a use for them. ;-)
  21. New Exo force is very welcome. I am interested to see how the Aquaraiders turn out but I hope we see transparent parts in colors we don't already have. Trans-yellow would be very welcome in some new bubbly shapes. I sure hope these are price holders instead of actual costs. I don't think I would ever pay $5 for an xpod. What new Belville sets are coming. I wasn't able to figure out what the titles meant?
  22. What? No pictures. I will have to wait for some actual details before I get excited. I really haven't liked many of the SW sets since the 1999-2000 series so hopefully these sets will be nice. New figures would be especially great. Blue senate guards, new jedi, magna guards or any new character would be perfect. Hopefully, we see plenty of them too. The current prices for SW figures is becoming quite insane. *wacko*
  23. Hey, Happy Birthday! Dinner with friends sounds like the best birthday you could get. Have a great day.
  24. It is hard to see all the details because of the black parts. I like the idea though. The legs just seem too large for such a tiny torso and arms.
