Looking forward to it! We should really get a name settled and put on that map for the mentioned fortress-town along the road north of Qarkyr atop the great escarpment by the way.

Raising the Dead – Family Heirloom (Community Story Build)
Gideon replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Well, I got too much to build now and I think I am going to be ordered some lego downtime by the family for a few weeks after the second weekend of October anyway. So I would probably decline this as it looks now regardless of if the date is October 15 or 31. But I'm excited to get up to GoH speed again for Book II!- 38 replies

Wonderful tribe! Where are those fish-people minifigs from? I like the rockwork around the swamp and that raft a lot, but the swamp itself seems a tad too colorful and sharply divided into different colors if you ask me. What are those black bands btw...?
-
Welcome to GoH! I think he looks a bit too "un-evil" to be Nocturnian, but who knows where you are planning to take him?

Some praise: The snowy outside is fantastic, I sense great Mitgaridan building potential here! The minifig posing is also interesting. Potential for improvement: Brickbuilt walls, or at least double layers of "prefab" pieces to avoid the paper-thin feeling those pieces give. Photography could also be improved, right now it looks like you have taken the pictures with your phone and then compressed them with paint or something which hasn't been kind to the pixels. And what is the purpose of the black area...?

A buffer zone between the unrest in Nocturnus and our strategically important fort on top of the only passage up onto the Great Escarpment sounds like a good concession which might benefit both sides. Kaliphlin gets additional protection against the unrest spilling our way and the orcs get a piece of land with great communications to both Kaliphlin, Mitgardia and their brethren in Nocturnus. As I recall it, the foothills of the Rakath Mountains is a quite fertile part of the land (by Kaliphlin standards at least) but relatively sparsely populated place. I do not however know what the locals think about accepting orcish rule?

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Feel free to use any of my Kaliphlin builds for recruitment efforts! -
IC: I agree that having a strong presence in that corner of Kaliphlin might be advantageous, but handing that important passage up onto the Great Escarpment and the fort on top over to them now sounds a bit rash to me without their loyalty being beyond doubt. As representative of Barqa I do not however see it as a big problem if trade along that route would be obstructed, as this would surely increase drade through our tolls! But other lords to the east might be more sensitive to that?

Book II - Nocturnus: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Yes I am, at least for now. Looking forward to building in the other lands as well however, and who knows where this restless half-elf will be at the end of Book II -
Collecting the pieces - Alexander Vandagant's search

Nice work, I really like the way that ruin sinks into the ground! Good job with the photography as well -
Lovely civilian build from Nocturnus, I absolutely love that we get to see more of that side of the Eastern Darklands! The build is great and you have a nice background for your photography, but it feels like you have a tad too sharp light since there are bright reflections in some places and at least on my phone screen generally a bit too dark exposure. Not that it neccesarily is a bad thing that a Nocturnus build is a bit dark, but it feels like the light measurement of your camera gets fooled by the light.

Ok, sorry for nagging at you ...I'm just trying to encourage you to improve your photo setup since your photography otherwise has really improved! You don't happen to have an Ikea store or similar nearby selling cheap lights...? But I'll stick to commenting your MOCs and story from now on.

Excellent photography, you are really doing those nice figs justice! The only problem is that my puristic side gets sad by seeing great figs use third-party parts, but I can't deny that those parts work very well for these figs

Good story and good illustrations of it with your builds! I didn't like that water technique before, but it is starting to grow on me- 9 replies

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Great idea, Sir Gideon might also try to find someone trustworthy to stand in for him when he has more adventurous things to do -
Those mercenaries don't seem to have had a chance! Nice tree and other foilage, but I agree that a more irregular shape of the ground would have worked even better. Your photography is good, that background is really nice, but more light (maybe from a window or even better outdoors, or at least another light source) would certainly improve it even more.

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Sir Gideon will remain in Kaliphlin and accept the offer as representative of the City Council of Barqa in the Kaliphlin Council of High Lords, although reluctantly because of the boring administrative burden. -

Sounds good, just as long as there are no deadlines before say early November or so since I'm stuck with a too big project for the upcoming weeks at least... -

Gideon replied to Si-MOCs's topic in Guilds of Historica
Welcome to the glorious Kaliphlin guild Lord Drakon! I am however curious about what your noble title pertains to? Out of character: I think you are welcome to found a new city/town/fortress/something else on the Kaliphlin map and proclaim yourself lord of it. In Kaliphlin we generally don't claim distict areas of land like our feudal Avalonian neighbors, but usually more something of a dot on the map. Either closely under the Kaliphlin central authority like for example Barqa where my sigfig is based or more of a free political entity with loyalty to Kaliphlin like Mpya Stedor which is quite independently ruled by Lord DaMaximus. -

Nice scene! My favourite part is the half-timber with the clever cut off windows technique, I don't know if I've seen that before? -

That's really cool, I like all the detailing in the facade But I think it deserves it's own thread, at least when there are more pictures (is this to be considered WIP shots?) I generally don't like commenting on builds in the main threads. -
Collecting the Pieces-Finding the Aevi Fruit
Gideon replied to soccerkid6's topic in Guilds of Historica
Very nice build, I especially like the cliff with snow on top and the tree. Like Masa I'm not totally convinced by the brick-built creature. It is cool, but I find its shape to be a bit hard to make out and the gaps in it to be a bit too distracting. Then again, it could just be my imagination getting "too grown up" after I turned 30?- 25 replies
