With the limited supply of suitable lumber on the island of Infero Pordejon earmarked for ship construction, the inhabitants of Charlatan Bay had to quickly adapt to another method of construction. Clay bricks was determined to be the best alternative, and a municipal construction yard was established under the control of the mayor's office. The brick kiln design itself is based on an older design that Bishop Meloche had discovered while studying the Tome of Go'u'Gal. The brick making process itself was quite simple. Clay excavated from the inland stream beds was mixed with water, silt from the beaches along the cliffs, and a binder of fine wood fibers. This was done in a small basin in the yard, colloquially known as the mud pit. Bricks were formed by hand and left to dry in the sun. Once dry enough to hold their shape, these were stacked in preparation for curing. The sun dried mud bricks were then placed in the charcoal-fired kiln and baked for a day. After the kiln cooled down the sufficiently, the bricks (now hardened and without colouring) were stockpiled by the factory's warehouse. Upon their arrival, the Ashen Guard Mercenaries negotiated with mayor office's for construction materials as part of their contract. These were to be put to use in building both their barracks and upgrading the existing fortifications. Ashen Guard Mercenary Corps Other Pictures This build started with me sipping a beer and just trying to find a use for those cylindrical tower bricks in a small MOC and just kept expanding so that I could tell a story. Googling (ed. note. Yes, I am using it as a verb. so what?) Brick Kiln was the deciding factor I suppose, as I found the pictures of the ancient kilns quite interesting. Game-wise, after humming and hawing over whether to split this into two properties, I am going to license it as a 32 x 64 Large Factory. One final note: this build stretched my collection to its limits. When I see BoBS MOCS these days, I turn green with envy over what I realize you have in your respective collections..

Maybe, if Ska is busy, he can just roll up results and we can have a "guest writer" each month. I'd volunteer to pen an issue.

[LDD MOC] SA-43 Hammerhead from Space Above and Beyond
Kwatchi replied to manglegrat's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I had completely forgotten about that show. Thanks for the memory reboot. :) Your rendition of the fighter seems real close. The canopy seems a little off though with the "peak", but every else is spot on. -
Nice tree design. They anchored the vignette well.

I love the hull shape and how the sails came out. It's pity you couldn't find a way to attach a large rudder on to the stern though (I stared at what I assume was the identically built bow and nothing came to mind tbh), as it would help identify the front from back more easily. A nice addition to the brick seas. Well done!

[COR - FB1] Smuggler's Tavern, Charlatan Bay, Infero Pordejon

On behalf of Bishop Meloche and the resident's of Charlatan Bay, let me be the first to heartily welcome Borden Appleby to our happy community. Your new establishment is a welcome addition and I am positive you will find over the coming years that your clientele is both polite and generous. I look forward to seeing you at the next merchant and commerce committee meeting. May your bread never harden and your taps never run dry! Your humble servant, Mstr. Willem J. Morris, Mayor of Charlatan Bay & Private Secretary for Bishop Meloche -
Are all property types going to be updated to reflect this new Arts/Culture breakdown, or is it going to have a unique one to itself? And I am out of touch, or did Fort plot sizes change at some point recently? (A welcome change that one, as I was struggling to pull bricks together for a 64 x 64 medium Fort, let alone a large 128 x 128 one)

I'm trying to decide if I liked this one more than the last episode. The micro-scale building was top notch, but no reference to "red ones..." this time out and I half expected a "narrow channel through the cliffs... how convenient!" Jobs a good one nonetheless. The story had become a personal favourite for me. :)

[SR - FB6.1] Losing The Head, Finding Heads
Kwatchi replied to Jacob Nion's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
The use of the weequay (sic) heads for a nice choice. I also liked the skinny palm trees; did you run a hose tube bit through them to get the arc while keeping them solid? Not sure about the robot arms plant though. I thought it was a giant spider for a second. But most importantly, Meloche approves of spooky jungle altars of sacrifice as cultural properties whole hardily!- 10 replies

You are off to a great start Savage Opress. I liked the story and your photos help tell it well. The multi-tiered build was nicely executed as well. The painted on moustache was cute. My only comment is that Kaiju has a colony on Isla del Diablo called Haven, and I wasn't sure if you were referring to that or a new location called Havon. I assumed it was just a typo.

Very subtle build. :) Ibn al'Sayeed is a nicely put together minifig. Kudos.

Nice minifg! Welcome aboard Captain Soares. If you are looking to get into the game systems, rather than just building, the next steps unfortunately involve a bit of homework/reading. I'd start with these two rule posts: Economic Game System <- explains the currency you'll be earning. Don't worry about the taxation or trade company stuff. Monthly Raiding and Commerce Action <- the real spirit of BoBs that keeps all of us breaking our F5 keys at the start of the month waiting to see how we did. :) After reading those, I'd suggest you build your first (and free of cost) class 2 ship. What type you make will depend on what you plan to do. Class A (armed class) is good more convoy escort or piracy; class T (trade) and F (fast) is for convoy trade in order to make oodles of Dbs; class WR (well rounded) is a jack of all trades/master of none. Regardless of what you build, it probably be a good idea to join a Sea Rat convoy for your first MCRA in order to get your "feet wet" and generate some funds, before branching out on your own. When ship building, take note of the # of cannons on the chart (i.e. 'G') in the MCRA thread as this tends to be the determining factor in identifying your ship class and type. Though the 4 cannons per G rating is not set in stone and you can +- 2 per G without much issue tbh. If you are looking for examples/inspiration for the purpose of your build size, Maxim spends an inordinate amount of his free time keeping up a directory of ships. I expect one the pirate faction leaders will invite you to the super secret discussion topics within the the next few days. Happy building! -
Sea Rats: Sign-up and Discussion
Kwatchi replied to Darkdragon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
As stated above, the game mechanic gives a bit of a leg up to new players so you aren't left behind. I myself started late and game wise I was up to speed with the rest within a couple of months. Frankly, once you create your SigFig and first ship you'll find you're already able to participate in the different aspects of the game play. And since this is the Sea Rats thread, just an FYI that we are just as active as the other three factions; we just do all our scheming in private rather than clutter the boards with needless prattle. -

Nice working with you CelesAurivern! Your build fits right in. edit: Shush Mike. You're giving away secrets! -
I for one would never ever consider committing a crime on the high seas but... my friend wanted me to ask if this lynch mob fleet is limited solely to NPC targets or if he would be considered a target should he accidentally steal one of the main faction's ships while hunting seagulls.

Kwatchi replied to Capn Frank's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Considering my initial reaction was 'that's a great roof design', and then I read your notes expressing your doubts on it, I think you succeeded in pulling my it off Phred. It matches the historic aesthetic really nicely. I also noticed how you built the house slightly off center. Nice touch! Only thing I would have liked to see is window sills on the first floor to break up the flat white wall a bit. Great job! -
Settlement, Charlatan Bay, Infero Pordejon, Sea Rats
Kwatchi replied to Kwatchi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
In Memoriam - Era I (Kwatchi & Gulagurag): Meloche and Amara Era I Storyline: -
Heinz and Hilda Schraebitz are lifelong farmers who arrived in Charlatan Bay as penniless refugees, having lost their small agricultural estate in the tides of war. For it is ever the fate of the common man to suffer the consequences of the moves in the political arena. However, rather than succumb to grief over what they lost, they stoically started anew and now work a small plantation that takes advantage of the rich volcanic soil on Infero Pordejon. While the majority of their crop is tobacco destined for the Willem Morris Tobacco Company, they also produce enough vegetables to help feed themselves and the community. Of course, the island is not a exactly a paradise. Any farmland has to be hacked out from the wilderness, and the jungle is always eager to reclaim it. The heat and humidity is impressive, the insects voracious, and on days when the wind is in the west the air has the smell of sulphur and brimstone drifting down from the volcano which dominates the island. But most concerning, is that it always feels like the jungle is watching, and occasionally the faint sound of drums can heard in the distance. ===/===/=== Property: Small plantation Status: Licensed

I do like some of the new pieces in the Black Knight Mech, but I don't think I'll pick it up. Oddly enough, my family collectively owns all but two of the winter release line but are not really interested atm in any of the summer sets other than Ultimate Lance (my kids fight over him), and maybe the lava creature army pack (me). I guess that comes from collecting the entire team already during the initial release and none of these new sets (other than the black knight) being really portrayed in the show. Having said that, that Gen. Magmar vehicle is tempting me... I think the line desperately needs some civilian buildings, if for no other reason than that they can be threatened by the bad guys in free play. It never fails that when me and my kids play NK; the first thing they ask me to do is to build them a house/farm/village for them to defend from my ravaging horde of lava monsters led by the CMF Jester. :)
