I wouldn't overrate the bad wheels of the Santa Fe series. In case you don't know yet, the bad wheels were a production error. There are other threads where this problem has been discussed. I substituted all my bad wheels with wheels that work nicely.

The Santa Fe Super Chief is the best LEGO train in my opinion. By the way, this topic feels so familiar. Haven't we had one like this before? Maybe combined with a poll?

I think you built a very nice and fine locomotive. Keep up that good work; it's really very impressive.

Interesting find. Thanks for telling us. That's really odd that there seem to be two versions of this train set available. So there must also be two different types of instruction books. By the way, I find the waggon with the sticking out parts (sloped version) nicer.

Wonderful railway station! I love it being a dead-end station! It's quite easy to extend it, i.e. making it longer. But I suppose you'd need a lot more bricks to house the Super Chief with all its waggons in the station. Anyway, a really stunning MOC! The outside looks fantastic and the inside too!

Availability of Cafe Corner, Green Grocer etc & sets in general?
legotrainfan replied to Phleep's topic in LEGO Town
Very good topic since I hope Cafe Corner and Town Plan won't be out of stock to soon. If Cafe Corner really won't be available after Dec. 31st this year, I'm fine with that. I'm going to buy it some time in the last three months of this year. But I'm always afraid they'll be sold out before I get a copy. -
This is a very nice outpost indeed. I like your choice of colours? Did you use old grey bricks for the base? It looks like old grey.

Congrats, Hinckley!

As Dr. Brick said, if you buy all the necessary pieces for 4999, you'll spend ca. 150 euro. Much cheaper than the highway robbery prices on eBay or elsewhere. I'm buying the necessary pieces. I've already got the green BURPs. Unfortunately, my budget is too low to buy everything at once. Especially the PF stuff is expensive. I'm just beginning with the rare elements like the BURPs. I buy them from TLC. The instructions of 4999 are on-line on the homepage of TLC. There is one page of the instructions that shows all the elements plus the element numbers that TLC uses. Just phone TLC and tell them which elements you want. I got the green BURPs without any problems.

Oh, and you cannot open the red door of the caboose completely. I forgot that. Well, the tearing-off-the-roof problem and the cannot-open-the-door-completely problem can also be found with the green passenger waggon 10015. TheBrickster, you're right. It's a good set. But for me minifigs are something essential. I don't care if a freight waggon doesn't come with a minifig, but for an engine and a passenger car - here I also consider a caboose a passenger car - minifigs are somehow a must. At least I feel this way. Just think of the 12V train cars and the first 9V waggons. They all came with minifigs, no matter if they were for freight or passengers.

Good change. Can all type of trains and waggons - here I'm especially thinking of a caboose - pass the windmill without being touched by its blades when it is rotating?
-
Average. That's my vote because you have to tear off the roof, no minifig, and - as Panda said - you can't put it into the train engine shed since it's too high. I've always wondered why the My Own Train series didn't come with a minfig per set. It's such a pity.

Which Site Do You Get Your Information From?
legotrainfan replied to Paradosis's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I proceed the same way as Peppermint_M. I don't use Lugnet though. Edit: By the way, I still have a LEGO catalogue from 1989. I can confirm that all the pirate sets you mentioned were released in 1989. If they were released in the same year in every country, I don't know. -
I've never thought of the different sizes of waggons much. However, discussing it is quite interesting. On the one hand I think it is just an evolutionary process of LEGO trains. On the other hand, there are waggons of different length in real life as well. So for me it's the same as in real life: shorter and longer waggons with the passenger waggons usually being longer.

Normally I don't indulge in the hassle of aligning 1x1 plates perfectly unless the instructions require to put other bricks next to them. If they are not aligned perfectly, it's sometimes difficult to do that. From time to time I also tend to hide mould marks by placing bricks in a way so that the marks aren't seen. But I don't often do that.

The engine of set 4512 can derail. Don't know if you have it. With this set the light cable leading from the motor to the light brick can be too tight. Just make sure it isn't too tight so that the motor can move more. I also know this problem with the crocodile engine 4551. As it's been mentioned the too light front and back parts are responsible for derailing. The other locomotives are sometimes not heavy enough if you send them through a switch at full speed. But even on curves they often tilt over if they're too quick due to being too light.

Finally we have pictures of this building! It looks very good, but somehow I miss something about it. I find the other modular buildings more appealing. I don't think I'm gong to buy the fire fighters' building.

You built a very nice tram with some nice details like the signal horn on its roof! Are the pantographs of Amsterdam's trams really so long?

I like the houses and the cinema. Everything looks so classic. Your creations will definitely go well with older LEGO sets! I also noticed that you have more seats in your cinema than the one in Town Plan has. Very nice! What I like most is your idea of building an illegal gambling room!

Looks pretty good, this waggon. Is it based on a real-life waggon?

Wow! Incredible! Amazing! So many tiles for the walls! And so many small bricks for the street! But how did you make the sail of the ship? And how did you attach it to the ship? I look at the picture but have no idea how you did it.

ARTICLE: Using On-line Instructions of Train MOCs
legotrainfan replied to legotrainfan's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Richie, thanks for mentioning the on-line version of railbricks here. I forgot about it. I know that website but haven't built anything from there. TheBrickster, thanks for playing the detective! Somehow I never noticed the user's description of the locomotive. So it was GM that constructed it and Nohab produced more locomotives of that type in license. And they were also sold to Denmark and Hungary. Very informative, that wikipedia article! Thanks! -
Go to a model train shop and ask the same questions there. For the wheels of 9V motors I use a dry towel. For the railway tracks I also use a dry towel. For Roco model trains there's a special rubber with which you can clean 9V tracks as well. It works fine if you have some dark spots on the metal of your rails. You can also clean LEGO rails with alcohol. But it is a special type of alcohol also available in shops for model trains. I have never tried that, though.

ARTICLE: Using On-line Instructions of Train MOCs
legotrainfan replied to legotrainfan's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Yup. I know it from HO model train catalogues. My brother has a HO layout, but he doesn't have this particular engine. Have you already compared the Hungarian engine (click on the link in my previous post) to the brickshelf user's engine? I think it resembles the Hungarian one more.
