Well, I'm also not so excited about the new train sets, and I'm also not going to buy any of those new sets. So you're not alone. I have to say you must've been very fortunate if you got the RC cargo train so cheap! I'm not a fan of the RC sets either, but if I had seen that set so cheap, I would've bought it!

Wonderful lorry! I love seeing 4-wide mocs! Very functionaly, this vehicle! And the colour scheme you used is also great!
-
I don't check the pirate thread too often, so this is the first time I've seen your amazing mocs! Stunning creations! Congrats to all of you!

I found some bricks I wasn't really satisfied with in my Green Grocer: - One tile with letter print wasn't ok. The print was bad; it was partly badly visible. It looked as if the tile with print were old. - One round tile with printed clock pattern also had a little flaw. One line that indicates the hour was a bit blurred. - All 24 slopes (65 degrees, 2x2x2) in my Green Grocer have a little crack on one of their sides. The crack begins at one of the studs and goes downwards at the side. The crack reaches downwards about one third of the length of the brick's side. The crack is easily visible in good light conditions.

Sloppiness When You Are Building
legotrainfan replied to legotrainfan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I know the problem of mixing up dark grey and black. With the Green Grocer I put two dark grey 1x1 plates under the little 1x3 arch forming the mousehole. Much later I realised that I couldn't find those two plates for another step, but I found two black plates of the same size instead. So I checked the instructions. When I found out what was wrong, I had to tear down half of the ground floor just to put in the plates with the right colour. -
I hope you're all happy with your Christmas presents and I hope you got plenty of Lego sets and bricks! I've been building my Green Grocer that I bought for myself on Christmas. I didn't want to buy disappointed in case no one gives me Lego. My sorrows were in vain because I got the Family Home. Anyway, the Green Grocer has reminded me how sloppy I can be when building. With the green grocer I forgot to build in the front door. I just realised this at the end of building the ground floor. I was suddenly surprised why such a piece like a door is left over. I checked the ground floor and I found out my mistake quickly. I also don't pay attention to the piece callouts as much as I should. I do look at them to find the necessary pieces, but I often forget to look for one or two elements or don't prepare the exact quantity of a brick. So my question is: how accurately do you work when it comes to building a Lego set?

I'm wondering why that locomotive has only got one pantograph. In Europe nearly all trains that cover longer distances have got two pantographs in case one fails to work during the journey. Shunting locomotives have only got one because they don't go on longer journeys.

For me this space station is above average. It doesn't consist of so many parts, but it offers high high playability. Ice Planet was a great space theme. Unfortunately, I only own three small sets. I'd love to have that space station or - even better - the Deep Freeze Defender. The colours of this theme uses go well with each other, and the Blacktrons had another faction from whom they could steal.

This set is amazing! I have it and I've always loved its high playability. And the containers have doors, which is a detail the containers of Intermodal Double Stack Car 10170 didn't have. I only dislike the mechanism of the crane. I think it never works well enough. It's a bit annoying. By the way, I find this set traintacular!

Thanks for the pictures. They look very interesting, but I'm waiting for better pics and, when the sets are available, for some reviews. Let's see how pricey they are. With the PF stuff included, they could cost quite a bit. The train station very much reminds me of Railway Station 7822 of the 12V era. Nothing unique was developed here. And the level crossing looks pretty simple. As for the trains, I don't want to say anything yet, but, as I've stated, I'm waiting for better pics. The new stuff doesn't look bad, but I think it's not going to make me buy anything. I'm too much of a 9V fan.

And my 28th birthday was about 4 weeks AGO.
-
Wonderful train station! By the way, hiding your PF battery box in a little shed is ingenious! Great work! And I also find the stuff around the train station amazing.

I'm for Classic Pirates. I think there's no need of a special pirate line. If some are really fond of Pirates of the Caribbean, they can create the models of the films with the bricks of the normal pirate line.

I'm only interested in the new Creator house 5891. Thanks for the link because now I know how much it will be!

What LEGO do you expect under the tree this year?
legotrainfan replied to Legoliner Pilot's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Either Family Home 6754 or the Emerald Night. Presumably it is Family Home since it's cheaper, but I'm not sure. And the Green Grocer. Of that I'm very sure since I bought it for myself. Unfortunately, the postal service hasn't delivered it yet, but it should be here in time. It was a S@H purchase. -
Why do Star Wars fans hate Star Trek so much?
legotrainfan replied to liquidcross's topic in Community
I was first acquainted with Star Trek by watching the Original Series. As a little boy, I sometimes found them quite scary. *lol* Later I got in touch with The Next Generation and Star Wars. I never liked Star Wars so much, because I didn't understand them. These were the movies with Harrision Ford and I had no idea what they were all about. The Stars Wars movies that were filmed later interested me much more; they made me understand everything, especially the episode in which Anakin turns into Darth Vader. The movies with Portman and Christensen starring in them changed my opinion. Anyway, Star Wars is a fairy tale. Just think of the beginning: In a faraway galaxy long before our time. (Don't criticise me for not mentioning the exact quote. I'm not being precise now, I know.) It is like saying once upon a time. It's all as it is in a fairy tale, especially Darth Vader who even does something good at the end and helps Luke. Star Trek wants to depict the future and not the past. It wants to depict a future in which there are no wars on Earth anymore and governments have moved closely together to build space ships for space exploration. This starting point is very idealistic. It tells people that they can hope for a brighter future. This theme plays with people's hopes. There are no conflicts on our planet any more. Summarising, there are two different approaches: sci-fi fairy tale set in the past vs. idealistic sci-fi future. These are two opposing poles. You'd remain on the surface of the problem if you simply said both was science fiction. As for my part, I like both but would go for Star Trek if I had to choose. This is because of my childhood memories: I didn't understand SW too well without the newer films. While I was reading several posts in this thread, I was thinking of Babylon 5 all the time. No one has thought of Babylon 5 in this discussion. I have watched some episodes of it, but it couldn't consistently appeal to me. But it wasn't bad either. Battlestar Galactica is also sci-fi that I enjoy. Talking as if SW and ST are the only and only good sci-fi shows is a pity. -
Yes, I am a train fan (or fanatic, to be precise). If you doubt my words because my reply in this thread comes so late, I must say that I've been very busy with my job and that I haven't been able to write here as much as before. Anyway, here's my story: I wanted a train set so much, but Christmas was still far away. My birthday is one month and some days before Christmas. Since I wanted a train set so badly, I knew my parents wouldn't let me down. To prepare myself properly for the set I was going to get at Christmas, I asked and persuaded my parents to buy me 4546 Road and Rail Maintenance on or some time near my birthday in November. I was so happy to have it. At Christmas I got 4563 . Wow, I was happy! I also got Level Crossing 4539 and a box of straight tracks 4515 for Christmas from other relatives. My brother got Railroad Tractor Flatbed 4543 as a present. Yay! My parents know how to manage things! What soon followed were track additions as soon as I had saved enough pocket money to buy them. Also I got some money from relatives on New Year's Eve. It's a tradition where I live. Just shake hands on Jan. 1st and wish them all the best for the new year and you get some money. Well, now I'm an adult and now I get nothing any more, of course; but it was fantastic to buy tracks, though my parents wouldn't let me spend all of the money for toys. I had to put some on my bankbook. Sets like the Club Car 4547 followed. I had to use it with freight train 4563. For Christmas presents I had the choice between several smaller presents from various relatives or one big one for which my parents and some relatives would put together some money. I preferred more but smaller sets and the Metroliner was thus out of my reach. What I could add due to saving pocket/birthday money and Christmas days in the following years were the Cargo Station , Cargo Crane 4552 (actually I think it's a maintenance crane), Road and Rail Repair 4525, Freight and Crane Railway 4565, Level Crossing 4532, and Train Cars 2126... plus track additons: straights, curves, switches, crossings. At the age of 16 I found I was too old for LEGO trains though Classic Train 3225 was out then and I'd have loved getting it for Christmas. But I convinced myself I was too old for little plastic bricks that run on tracks. My Dark Ages began. The discovery of eBay made me start buying Lego again. First, I only bought Lego to complete old sets with missing and broken pieces. I bought a lot of shields for my knights because the handle of some had been broken. And the clips of horse saddles and flags were broken too. Spears and swords were missing etc. EBay was wonderful to substitute long lost parts. Finally, I discovered the Super Chief and I knew it was a must get. I bought two Super Chiefs at once from the same seller; it was an eBay buy-it-now offer. I didn't buy the train cars for the Super Chief too soon. The My Own Train series had also attracted my interest, and I bought the cars of that series without the steam engine 10205. I then started buying the Santa Fe Cars: 1x10022 and 1x10025. Later a second 10025 train car followed. When set 10022 was discontinued, I was sad, because prices were soon up, but I found one copy at a toystore for the price TLC recommended. So I finally had two 10025 cars and two 10022 cars. After many eBay purchases later, I also own Train Engine Shed 10027 and other train sets. Just recently I won another 10025 MISB waggon in an eBay auction. I'm just modifying it into a passenger car. I also have two waggons and an engine built with the help of on-line instructions. I also have two 12V sets, which I won on eBay. They were used. These are Railway Station 7824 and Crane Wagon 7814. I like the classic charm of those two. My train empire isn't expanding so much anymore. This is mainly due to the discontinuation of the 9V series. If it had continued, I'd be buying much more. But there are other great sets around that interest me much like the Emerald Night. I must still get that one and I'm looking forward to seeing a release of a second waggon for the Emerald Night. I hope TLC won't let us down. Finally I'd like to say that collecting Lego train stuff is a hobby that has become very dear to me, but lacking space poses a real problem all the time. Nevertheless, I'm happy to have so much stuff and I'm happy to be one of so many train fans here on Eurobricks with whom I can share and discuss train-related stuff.

Just bought my first Train set - what next?
legotrainfan replied to Thrawnseg's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I just want to add that this engine house was Train Engine Shed 10027, which was released in 2003 and has been out of production for quite a while. Providing the serial number, it should be easier for you to search for and find one. -
Today I won an auction on eBay. It's set 10025, a Santa Fe waggon. The set is brand new, MISB. I got it for 68 euro. That's cheap compared to the prices for which it is offered on bricklink.

What Ever Happened to the Train Engine Shed?
legotrainfan replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Nice article! Thanks! I'm happy to own Engine Shed. It even came with old grey bricks. I bought it MISB for quite a high price. Despite the existence of engine sheds with bley bricks, the seller could guarantee that my purchase was still with old grey bricks; the description said so. The seller had bought it a very short time after its release when old grey was still the only type of grey. Train station, level crossing, train station, level crossing,... I've seen too many of that stuff. It's getting boring. A trackside structure that is neither a level crossing nor a railway station would be nice. I'm also fed up with cranes unless they are really ingenious. -
Wonderful MOC! A while back I opened a threat about MOCs that depict a winter scene/landscape. I just presented some brickshelf finds. Unfortunately, you hadn't yet built your MOC back then. I'd have been a nice additon for the discussion in that thread. However, your winter scene looks fantastic. The only thing I miss is a bit of "snow" on the train. Though I don't know if snow on the train would be realistic anyway. Since a train moves most snow normally falls off anyway.

Absolutely amazing, your town layout! I love your houses! The trees also look great though I'd have used another type of green for them; but that is just a matter of taste. Your layout's absolutely fantastic!

This is the scale I prefer. Very nice creation. I found the tanker of the My Own Train series too big. Yours is fine.

I actually *gasp* like short-lived themes!
legotrainfan replied to Batbrick's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm for long-lived themes. It's hard to collect stuff if you're really fond of short-lived ones. Buying everything of one theme within a short time is quite expensive.
