LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 20. Rumors and discussion
AmperZand replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Are you sure it's from Brickset? I went through all their official reviews since 1 January and couldn't find it. Can you please post a link? -
They claim they are all unique, i.e. no repeats, and all as sold by LEGO in sets, i.e. no MOCs/kitbashes. But if the pictures here are anything to go by, they are definitely not all minifigures. LEGO figures, sure; but not all minifigures. There are slabbies, Star Wars droids, Fabulanders, skeletons and bigfigs (e.g. Hagrid) - none of which are minifigures per DK books approved by LEGO. Besides, as an Italian collection, it violates AmperZand’s law of collecting (see earlier post). There must be a larger collection in the US. AmperZand’s law is inviolable.

I agree with @Grover: I think it's reddish brown, too. I also agree with Grover that a nougat coloured longbow would be cool. If you're going for historical accuracy - which I am not, but some AFOLs might - nougat would be better. Longbows were usually made of yew and were mostly closer to nougat in colour than reddish brown.
-
I could be mistaken, but that longbow looks like this one from 2011.

It’s difficult to see from the picture - at least on my device - but isn’t that ‘new’ longbow this part from 2011? -

Seconded. We really enjoy your CMF reviews but if LEGO isn’t cooperative, there is nothing to be done. ? -

@WhiteFang, Too soon to expect your review of this series? Like I always say, “a minifigure series ain’t a minifigure series until Fangy has reviewed it!” -

Hope it's OK here at EB to link to other AFOL sites. If so, this article on Brickset about MOCing minifigures might be of interest.

You can partly see the helmet from the side without the beard in this picture from the Brothers Brick’s series review. -

Nicely done. Are they glued? It doesn’t look like the ankles and tails can support the weight.

Indeed. Dark red was one of the problem colours. I had a bunch of dark red pieces crack the moment they were used. LEGO is aware of the issue and has since changed the composition of certain colours including dark red.

What Discontinued Colors Would You Like to See Return?
AmperZand replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Have you taken a colour acuity test? It sounds like you have a form of colour blindness. -
Yes, the sheen is identical to that of standard LEGO pieces. In fact, the problem is not that you can see, it is that you cannot. That may not seem like an issue, but when you are applying very thin layers, you cannot see it on your brush (you should remove any excess from the brush or the applied coating will not be thin enough) or on the LEGO part as you cover it. A good way of knowing that it is being applied is to put some on a test piece of LEGO that you do not mind throwing away with the same stroke. After a few minutes, if you touch the test piece, you will feel the tackiness of the Satin Cote as it starts to dry. Most joints, including minifigure ones, are hidden, so you will not see anything anyway.

@jlassen, Some MOCs, while technically brilliant, are dull and lifeless. Yours is just the opposite: uncomplicated and full of character. It’s great! If this had been a set when I was a KFOL, I would certainly have pestered my parents for it. ?

@Bornin1980something, I like it. Classic Space, lots of minifigures, original moon baseplates, nicely displayed. Good stuff! ?

I have used Humbrol Satin Cote on the male part of joints to tighten them and it works very well with no long-term damage. The trick it to apply it very thinly, allow it to dry thoroughly, try it and if necessary, add another layer. You can remove stuck helmets safely and easily using a minifigure torso and cling film. Cheap cling film is best because it is thinner than the expensive stuff. Cover the minifigure’s neck stud with a layer of cling film, ease the head on and remove the helmet. If required, wear rubber kitchen/cleaning gloves to get more grip. If you find yourself pulling both the head and helmet off together, try again with two layers of cling film instead of one. Keep adding cling film layers as needed but one or two should do it.

Fantasy minifigure mods using latest parts

Thanks . He is supposed to be a redcap, an evil Anglo-Scottish folkloric creature who inhabits ruined border castles and dips his hat in his victims' blood to keep it red. Traditionally, redcaps are armed with military pole-arms but in more recent fantasy art they are often portrayed with agrarian derived weaponry (see here for example). I prefer the more classic look. I have wanted to create a LEGO redcap for a long time, but a suitable hat/ears piece did not exist until last year.- 11 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 20. Rumors and discussion
AmperZand replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Washing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or using hand sanitiser gel and not touching your face after feeling bags/picking PAB/BAM parts will keep you from getting covid-19. As for the parts themselves, washing them in soap and water will do it. Covid-19, like all coronaviruses, has a lipid coating that is susceptible to soap. Obviously, soap and water are no good for the leaflet inside CMFs, but if you leave them out for 72 hours, they will be safe. -
Minifigures are at the heart of my display collection. Most are MOCs, but a few are as intended by LEGO. When it comes to sets, I’m neither a MOCer nor an official set builder. Rather, I’m a modder. One of MOC minifigures was, I believe, the ‘inspiration’ for an official LEGO minifigure - which is a weird reversal of how things normally work ?

Fantasy minifigure mods using latest parts
AmperZand replied to AmperZand's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Thanks for your interest, @leafan. The knight's helmet is a BrickWarrior's great helm. Sorry if I gave the impression that the minifigures are purist; not all of them are. All the new-ish pieces are by LEGO though. Yes, the were-rat's sword is from 6918. Well spotted! But I got it on the secondary market, not directly from the set. It looks dwarven to me. I figure the were-rat stole it from a victim who may or may not have been infected with lycanthropy. The two-headed ghost's blades are curved blade with bar and the weapons' handles are lightsaber hilt short with ridges. The male's helmet is a Persian helmet in pearl dark gray. Hope that helps- 11 replies

Here are some of my fantasy minifigures using parts released in the last few months. The parts are from the DC CMF series, Ninjago range, CNY sets and Hidden Side boxes as well as some BAM exclusive pieces. I would have preferred a more murine tail for the were-rat, but am not aware of any. I welcome suggestions. Questions? Comments?

Whaaaaat?! They were originally lovely yellow and you fleshified them? Pardon me while I burst into tears ??? Seconded. In fact, if you could post pictures of how you constructed the ogre and the yoke-bearer, that would help immensely. I think I understand your description above, but I'm not 100% sure.

Nice collection of fantasy minifigures! ? The two-headed one is very clever and I like the goblin’s axe. I’m not keen on fleshies myself, but appreciate that tastes vary in that regard. Incidentally, I’m not a mod but I think this thread belongs in the Minifig Customisation forum.
