lego set 75176 classic space mod

Nice build ?, but I am pretty sure this thread belongs in the Sci-Fi forum, not General. -
Lego is dropping behind dragon designs
AmperZand replied to Medzomorak's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Sure, the Ninjago dragons are mechs but some are easily modded to represent actual dragons. Here is my mod. Not very much required to make it look organic. I belong to the camp that believes that euro-centric dragons have 2 hind legs, 2 forelegs (or arms) and 2 wings, but that is not a depiction that has always been true historically. Tolkien and Gygax (the co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons) had 2+2+2 dragons and the latter had wyverns as having 2 hind legs and 2 wings which is probably where the modern concept comes from. But if you go back to earlier texts, iconography and heraldry, occidental dragons were sometimes portrayed without forelimbs or even as giant serpents with no limbs or wings at all. So Peter Jackson's portrayal of Smaug in the Hobbit movies as a 2+2 beast, while untrue to Tolkien, is a legitimate representation of a dragon. While I am a big fan of fantasy, I am not keen on HP/WW. For me, the latest horntail looks much like a Warhammer-like wyvern and that is how I treat my slightly modded one: Completely agree. I considered getting the GoT Mega dragon but the aesthetic of the head and the rest of the dragon is entirely disjoint and I decided not to partly for that reason. Also, after seeing Jang's Youtube review, I felt that the dragon's joints are too small in relation to its musculature creating a 'blocky' or 'chuncked' effect that I do not care for. My favourite LEGO dragons are the Fantasy Era ones, though I also like and have in my display collection the small, moulded ones from the '90s, one of the Vikings dragons and a couple of Ninjago ones that I modded. I also have Smaug and intend to add it to my display collection when I eventually get round to opening my Lonely Mountain box. Overall, I do not think that LEGO is dropping the ball in its dragon designs though I would prefer more moulded dragons, not just moulded heads. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
AmperZand replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Perhaps a series based on the LEGO Heroes Legacy game that is officially launching this Thursday, 27 February with lots of Classics. Pure speculation on my part though; I have no reason to think it might be true. I can dream (ICD). -
And NSW, or more specifically the Bondi Westfield store a fortnight ago.

The designer of the LEGO Minifigure has passed away.
AmperZand replied to Nabii's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I reckon LEGO should sell a commemorative minifigure of Jens Nygaard Knudsen with proceeds of the sales going to ALS research. I’m not into fleshies, but I’d buy one anyway. -
The designer of the LEGO Minifigure has passed away.
AmperZand replied to Nabii's topic in General LEGO Discussion
‘Genius’ is used far too glibly these days. But in Jens Nygaard Knudsen’s case it is truly deserved. His creativity brought happiness to many millions of children and adults, and will likely continue to do so for years to come. How many other people can claim that? -
New Build a Minifigure Exclusive Figures
AmperZand replied to Gomek's topic in General LEGO Discussion
@Gomek, Please also see the thread in the History forum on the influence of other themes. The minifigure second from the left in this post uses the same torso and skirt as your lady vampire but was posted back in October. -

German Toy Fair – LEGO To Increase Focus On AFOLs
AmperZand replied to danth's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Bricksfanz has it wrong. LEGO doesn’t target AFOLs. It targets adults. Not the same thing. As far as LEGO is concerned, AFOLs are already ‘in the bag’. Non-FOL adults, on the other hand, are prospective AFOLs. It’s far more lucrative for LEGO to turn a non-FOL adult into an AFOL than it is to sell marginally more to an AFOL. -
Absolutely great site! Great job. Arguably, retrospective CS sets and minifigures should included such as Benny’s Space Squad. If I can be a bit picky, there is an omission in the rare parts list for the All-Terrain Vehicle (6927). The white 1 x 1 plates with vertical side loops to which the red headlights are attached are pretty rare. It may not seem that way, but the originals are thin while the more recent version of that part is thicker, more robust. I know because I sourced all the parts to recreate the set in 2014 though I went with the thicker (but less historically accurate) version.

Picked up a spare Benny's Space Squad (70841) at Sainsbury's for £4.50 today. They had some other sets on clearance too including at least one SW one.

LEGO Sci-Fi 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
AmperZand replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
The running change line-up you suggest would be absolutely brilliant and I also suspect it would sell well, but I doubt LEGO believes that. As for your suggestion of reversible torsos, LEGO would never sanction that. While it has sold replacement hands separately, it has never to my knowledge provided minifigure arms by themselves. As far as LEGO is concerned, consumers are never supposed to remove minifigure arms. -
I was at the White City Westfield yesterday. They had the weird white guy’s head but not torso or skirt. They had plain white skirts, but not printed ones.

@cebelicamya, Thanks for pointing out that blog post. A fun little retrospective ?

Perhaps heavy duty shrink wrap. It’s stronger and stretchier than the household kind but also less clingy.

@leafan, Thanks for the update ? Some of the posters to the thread about a year ago thought LEGO over-zealous in defending its IP. But IP rights need to be asserted or are lost, so LEGO has little choice but to come down hard on any possible infringers.

Utterly charming and very well executed! I especially like the foliage around the base of the structure.

What roles did you assign to different colored astronaut minifigs?

Yellow: Nudist (with a large Classic Space tattoo across the chest) -
Who makes the black swords in the picture below? The LEGO cutlasses shown for scale. Thanks

All it needs is the new-ish grenade piece as the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. And I’m not too worried about the black knight in your last picture. After all, it’s just a flesh wound. ?

LEGO marketing exec: ‘you will not see Brickarms.’ Please see the post by @MajklSpajkl earlier in this thread as well as: Brothers Brick interview
-
LEGO has already said that Brickarms etc will no longer be sold on BL. Obviously, there will be a transition period, but I expect it won’t be long.
-
Agreed. Currently, AFOLs buy on BL when they can and only through Ebay, where prices are higher and seller honesty lower, when they have to. We could see a shift to Ebay being the ‘new BL’. It would take current BL sellers to defect to Ebay and Ebay adding LEGO-orientated functionality. Don’t know if Ebay would, but there is an opportunity there if Ebay is willing to seize it.

How could "pet " or "smoke" affect new unopened Lego set?
AmperZand replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Indeed. Cigarette smoke is not too bad. If parts are left to air out, the stink disappears in a few weeks. Vaping smoke, on the hand, lingers for months. One or more of the postal workers in my area vape leaving parts I have ordered on BrickLink stinking of cherries. It drives me mad ? -
The existing mountain lion can pass for a lioness. Sure, it has a pink nose, but so do some lions. So while the new lioness is welcome, it's not got me particularly excited. The mountain lion doubling as a lioness: Which is a shame as LEGO would only need to produce a mane piece that you would clip onto the existing big cat mould in much the same way that Playmobil does it. An entire new head piece would not be needed. A new head would incur moulding and additional assembly costs. But a mane piece alone would only have moulding costs, not assembly ones.
