LEGO Star Wars 2021 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Fuppylodders replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I expect this has already come up, but I don't recall... But the recent discussion has me wondering... How does marvel manage to get sets to things sooo recent and relevant and star wars just gets trickles and scraps here and there, playing it safe often and going back to the OT for safety...? Marvel doesn't throw back to the main characters/stuff too often does it, that it ends up blocking ability to get much new stuff...? The only thing I see frequent, is Tony starks iron man armours in any of its many variants, and given they appear to be covering a huge amount of different armour variants, even that doesn't seem too bad. Other than that, it seems well balance-but that's from a mediocre fan perspective, I don't follow it too much. So why does star wars have to keep reverting back to the OT when marvel has been out 13 years with iron-man and 9 years with the first avengers film and they don't keep reverting back to then...? What am I not getting...? -
I found with this fix, you can happily touch it, sneeze, blow raspberries at it, gaze at it with serious intent, tickle, fondle, grope, stroke and probably swoosh it and none of it pops out of position. Also, while in my picture, the lower gap appears quite visible, with a minute rotational adjustment, it had gone, and the gap up top was no more visible than before. Where the 2 studs are left at the top, it may be possible to put a 1x1 tile on each, I just haven't bothered trying yet as they don't bother me in the slightest. (yet! ) The only issue is the lack of clutch power that holds the front section of the cockpit on (nothing to do with my fix). That does keep popping off the moment I even just pass wind But yes, this has been an amazing build experience so far with many techniques that have amazed me and the strength of the main section! The instructions have also been very clear and well done too. Certainly well worth the money paid for them.

For those of you having an issue with the lining up of the angled pieces either side of the cockpit, I found that the front portion below them seemed to be the cause of the issue. Not sure how other people are managing to get it to settle in position but I just couldn't, as mentioned before, it's all fighting for space against other pieces and sticking it all under pressure doesn't really fix it. Also, most of my pieces were new, so thinking old pieces are part of the issue here, isn't the issue. I've also looked back at Jerac's pics of his, and while his gun is in the way to visibly see the front portion of the panel and how it all sits, it looks proper wedged together, and looks like it fits together impossibly! (how does the 1x2 slope on the top rear portion of the panel I modified even tuck up under there?!) So I looked how to resolve it and come up with a simple quick fix. All you'll need extra is two 1x4 light bluish gray plates. The panel on the right has a stepped up 1x2 grille slope which is the cause of the issue. This sits on a 1x6 plate. Literally just swap that out for a 1x4 plate, remove the 1x2 curve off the very top and everything fits together so much better as seen on the panel already installed. Left side done, right side not done. You can see it lines up sooo much better.

I think you seriously underestimate the lengths people will go to for Internet fame nowadays -
If I'm honest, I'm keen to see them all. I think you've hit a very good selection of figs to do this to, and how awesome they'll look once all stood together!

Oh... My... God... How cute is he! You've done an amazing job capturing him at this scale, especially the helmet! The striping is nicely done, the backpack, the guns, literally all of it! Now THIS is what TLG need to be releasing. You literally put them to shame if they don't. Can the helmet be removed? (haven't watched video, not enough time before work). I do believe you may have made my next bricklinked item! Can't wait for you to do the rest!

I actually think you're quite right here. I also think lego does the constant repeats because its a safe bet, but I wonder what would happen if they solidly ignored OT and went with' safe bets' in other eras. At some point OT fans will be just as common as any other era fan because enough time will have gone by that OT fans will be grampas and not buying lego anymore. Anyone growing up with SW now, has a lot more to watch and take their attention/eye candy vehicle wise, so the Landspeeder will just disappear into a background vehicle. It had no major prominent role other than transport luke and obiwan from a to b. That's it. Nothing really noteworthy occurred with it. If I was a kid, while it might seem spoilt, I'd be disappointed if I got a landspeeder as a gift. I mean, once you got one, that's it. It's not an army builder set. The naboo n1 is iconic enough to justify remakes of it as much as the Landspeeder gets. And, it's sooo much more of a beauty to look at too. If TLG are going with the whole 'old fans moved on, new fans joined and want lego' theory, then, it's a constant dynamic that'll never end and therefore they should just keep the same x wing on the shelf as there will always be someone new. Why bother wasting investment designing a new one? Just readjust which minifigs come with it, job done. Or, given how successful they are, and that it's star wars.... Take a gamble now and then, worst they'd likely do is make a smaller profit but still profit... Unless they do the current general grievous ship debacle again... -
The only way I can see this method of build working as you ask, is using the 1x2 hinge bricks on the bottom to angle them outwards, but that presents you with extra gaps, unless you're able to stagger the placement of the 3 rows of plates by half a stud, such as using jumper stud to offset the middle to stick out at each change in angle which creates the curve. Then, add plating above using ball joints or technic axle holder plates, similar to how typically the wings on a lego tie fighter are held on, but these would not be attached to the rear facing angled portion (glowy bit) but would simply rest upon that, and be attached to the front/base portion. Either way, that's a very curvy difficult shape you're going for there and I wish you luck! Also that reference image is awesome, just wasted 10 minutes flying myself around it, making it swoosh across my screen (dragging 2 fingers to make it 'move'), going inside it, floating through the docking bay and up to the bridge

We're allowed to state our opinion here, even if it goes against the majority. Its a forum for discussion, not a bum cleaning service for TLG. -
Super Mario 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
Fuppylodders replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Your argument is entirely off. If that's the case, then all the 80% of Nintendo fans and 100% non Nintendo fans are really going to buy a set that they only understand and recognise the exterior, and not the interior? *Especially* as its microscale, all the details are even harder to understand unless you've actually played those levels. If you haven't, then it looks like a neat little stack of plates and random shaped bricks. Bowser being the only redeeming factor that 102% of people will know about. Given the price range, are you really expecting people to spend that much on a big ? with no care for the interior? They wouldn't care about the bowser battle you can actually replay because, they never did it so wouldn't understand wtf they're meant to do with the lego version. Oh, you can put your mario plates on the spinny bit in lethal lava land? Eh OK. What's the big deal? Those that played the level would understand the big deal. All the people that have an understanding of what the interior-you know, the other 50% of its selling point--is about, will absolutely have a clue and recognise the ! block. You're throwing wild numbers around stating your view as fact when it's literally your view. Yes, the question mark block is widely known. They should have therefore stuck to insides that better tied in with that than mixing it up for cashgrab purposes because it's like putting an OT star wars exterior on something then offering sequel contents. Can you imagine the outcry at mismatching? "The Clone Wars!" 'Deathstar opens up to reveal Clone Wars mini scenes.' It is a very reasonable observation and complaint (complaint might be a bit of a harsh description as it's more preference than complaint) for people to bring into question the use of the question mark block when it's stated as a super mario 64 set and the main display of it is something not seen in super mario 64. Can I understand why they did it? Yes. Do I agree with it? No. -

I'm usually all for being open minded to believe that lego won't always stick to precedences that they've set and that they do go outside of them and change things up and do the unexpected, but this one is just too obvious that it won't be an MBS. Besides, as you point out, where would they squeeze it into? But it has got me wondering what the next MBS might be. I equally love all the OT/PT and the sets for them (and the mandalorian), however I'm certainly on the same boat as wishing they'd do more PT for a bit as OT has had its share of the spotlight far more than necessary. -

Given their reluctance to do anything too heavy for anything not film related, I'd say with almost certainty that it will *not* be an MBS set, but just a small location style set, no bigger than the previous, but probably a bit smaller. Even if the possibility is there to do it linking both OT and BoBF, they just won't. Anyone pinning hopes on it being an MBS style set are setting themselves up for disappointment. -

What about the probe droid in 75014? That seemed good to me, as a minifig scale version. Given we will be getting a probe droid and chewie in the same set, that's 66% of your wish right there! Just bricklink the Hoth han polybag and you're golden :) *edit @Kdapt-Preacher@Kdapt-Preacher Yes, the sentinel, that's the one I meant (when I said ILC) And ahh, thanks for the clarification -

This is star wars fans you're on about here. Theeeee most nit picky Eagle eyed detail sniper scrutinisers the world has ever seen For me, the Hoth one deserves to be different (because it is) and giving the endor one to us as a Hoth variant would be akin to calling a yellow Clone commander a pilot (we know how well that went down ) True it was only a few blurry seconds. And, I may be mistaken, but, I think.... In the original non-remastered version, it wasn't even in the film originally. I think it was added in later (unless that was the imperial landing craft? Or it was the ILC and the Hoth atst getting added in the digital remake? Someone please jump in here) Either way, I'm absolutely stoked to hear it'll be the actual Hoth variant. Given minifig sizing and the fact squeezing 2 minifigs in a normal atst which has a slightly larger head, I see absolutely no issue at all with them omitting a second seat position. It can likely be modified to have one if absolutely necessary, but for me, it'll be an absolute acceptable compromise. -

I do wonder though... Your statement would be entirely correct with solid foundation, about 10-15 years ago. But now? We've gone through and had the PT. We've now also had the ST. People who are of an average fan level, would have grown up alongside the OT *and* PT, and also, now the ST. So, what makes the landspeeder more iconic than any other (non iconic) vehicle? You say it's far more prominent in the films. (totally do correct me if I'm wrong here) The landspeeder was barely used in the OT. It saw more use on the other films and spinoff films, to which also means the other vehicles from those films also compete for iconicity. Back when only OT existed, sure, everything was new and iconic in their own right. PT provided an entire new style of vehicles iconic in their own right, but, foreshadowed by OT still. Anyone that's growing up with all 3 trilogies? Landspeeder is just a tiny backdrop thing that doesn't bare much of a second glance kinda thing. I think in the modern day casual average star wars fan, the landspeeder is farrrrrrr down the list of iconic vehicles because sooo much more choice and interesting things during pinnacle moments than a quick trip across a desert to skip to the next scene... And so it's still riding off the original success and fans of the OT rather than casual Joe fan. All just my opinion though. Also, given the new minifig accessory packs... How does that play out to the whole 'can't do star wars cmf due to licencing' thing? Hate to beat a dead donkey but I can't remember if that really was due to licencing or they just don't want to and choose not to... If the former... Surely its pushing the boundary? -

I'm positive it's going to be a good set. It really will be interesting to see what they do with it and how. It'll be a good set to look at. Just not my cup of tea for spending £170 ill be happy enough to go into a TLG store, have a ganders at it for free, and happily buy something else. I'd rather get a modular (but I also still need to get the RGS because favourite PT ship, and to show support). Although, I'll still likely be recovering from them ripping my wallet off me from the hoth wave. It'll all balance out I'm sure. -

You mean the one with no body? Or it'd have to be a UCS jar jar bust. I mean, could they do a great job on it? Most certainly! Would it be highly detailed with cool building techniques? Heck yeah. Would it have a few neat little functions? Damn straight it would (removable engine access panels, light saber storage hole perhaps). Will it make the majority of ucs fans look at it and go 'sorry wife/kids, we're gonna starve for the next 2 weeks while my wallet recovers from this awesome beast'? Will it make anyone other than the most hardcore SW fan look at it and without question or hesitation drop $200 on it? Will it make people queue up outside the shop early morning to beat the mad rush of other fans queueing up for a chance to snap up a copy? Probably not. Will it make partners buy their opposites a 'it's a SW spaceship so it must be good!' present while their partner wishes they got socks instead? Well... Right now... I need more socks. And have no partner. So I'll buy socks for me instead of this. Will scalpers buy it in the hopes it sells sooo bad, it gets eol'd quicker than I can buy a pair of socks off amazon, so they can mark it up and ride on the fact it wasn't available for as long as other ucs sets? Highly likely.... (all assumptions but, I genuinely feel I'm not far wrong except the odd few that genuinely do want a UCS landspeeder). So, if this sells horrendously, does this mean no more OT ucs sets and more PT? I mean, that's how they put it (other way round) for the Republic gunship... -

That's a good point. While I think the deathstar rumour was simply an assumption people made based on the previous one retiring so close, and it having replaced the previous iteration immediately prior to that; leading to a potentially logical conclusion that turned out incorrect, the ucs shuttle one came from no assumption that I'm aware of, and perhaps actually was purposely incorrectly fed information to track leaks? (I'm kind of always overthinking things, so I'm probably way off on this. But, it's what I'd do. I'd take it as far as possible too, to make it look real to the people involved) -

Am with you on that especially for the Venator. Also, seems everyone already pointed out the helmet thing while I was typing out my reply, didnt mean to add to it. Is it possible that system sets this wave might actually be reduced in favour of the 18+/hoth themed sets? Did the vader chamber set take up what might have been a system set slot? Also, a valid point.... Does iconic=desired ucs set? -

It was mentioned by promo bricks that while three were being made, only two were going to be released. The assumption is that luke is the one not to be released... However, it could mean a few things; It'll be released at a later point Itll be some convention exclusive similar to nebulon b convention set It'll be a vip points giveaway set (I doubt it, but throwing that in there) Cancelled for any variety of reasons Any other number of reasons/delays currently unknown. As for the ucs landspeeder... While I'm expecting it to be true... I'm just hoping that it's the start of their leak finding exercise, and telling various different people different things, and finding out which 'info' finds it's way out... Or TLG are trolling us hard (and giving me breathing space to recover from all the Hoth themed stuff!)
