  1. When I started reading this topic, I expected a smaller model and I was really surprised by the size. The house is very acurate, and instantly recognizable. You did a great job rebuilding it from the Google Street view, and it's a wonderful gift for the family of LEGO enthusiasts.
  2. After 7 months of on- and off-building, my Modular Corner Neighborhood is finally built. When I started building the three buildings, my only goal was to use only parts I had at home. Well, I failed that. My favourite of the three is the corner building Cupcake Cafe despite the fact that it's the only half furnished. On the ground floor, there's the best Cupcake Cafe in town. The top floors are empty, but not for long. The new owner is already moving in some of his furniture. The moving van is a recycled MOC from a long time ago. The other modular building is the Grocery store. As the name implies, there's a Grocery store on the ground floor, and an appartment above. The store is small, but it has the basics. There's a nice variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh bread, dairy products, jams, etc. My inspiration for the store was the 10684 Supermarket Suitcase. The middle floor of the Grocery store building is the living area. On one side there's a small kitchen, on the other a living room, and in between is the dining area. The top floor has a large bedroom and a bathroom. The 16-wide building is residential. The ground floor has a kitchen, and door to a small terrace (I removed the wall for the photo session). On the middle floor is a living room with a more modern furniture. On the top floor is a bedroom with ensuite bathroom. The buildings can be rearranged in a linear layout. I added some details also to the back of the Grocery store building, mostly to hide the large grey wall. The buildings have some details also on the back side. If you're interested in more details, you can have a look in my (picture heavy) Flickr album, as I didn't want to include too many photos here. Most of them I was taking during the building process so they're not perfect, but most of the details can be seen.
  3. While I wouldn't dare to have a ride on this swing ride, it looks amazing. The colour scheme is lovely, and the details are realistic. The use of chain links is great as it resembles the real swing rides. I'm missing the safety belt around the seat, but I guess minifigs don't need them.
  4. I missed the ''deadline'' as I was kept too busy by the little one and his two older cousins babysitting on my own for three full days. Bonaparte, can you please put me on the Monday waiting list in case any spot is released? Thanks.
  5. Contrary to Vorkosigan, I'm all in for the Cupcake cafe and Supermarket sets, but I have to say also that this first wave of sets is amazing parts wise. There's lots of new recolours and interesting parts, such as the medium blue corner dome tops, cupcake stickers, watermelon, new cookies, sushi tiles, chocolate bars and a new type of 1×2 panel with sides in trans clear, violet laptop, a plant vine in green, a new printed wood pattern round tile, a tent, yellow bicycle, colorful party hats and more rabbits.
  6. After a long break from building, I finally managed to create something new and take pictures. They're not the best, as my LEGO dedicated corner is still a work in progress, so I had to work with the lights I had available in other rooms. Without further ado, I built this open food market as a part of the LUG's town display. It was a nice change from building modulars, most prominently it was build much much faster. The market was built on two 32x32 baseplates, and is split in two parts to allow minifigs moving from on side of town to the other. There's 10 food stalls in total, and you can buy almost anything. My favourite stall is actually the one not selling food, but flowers. It was also the first one I made, and I used the same or very similar design to build other stalls. Since fruits and vegetables need to be washed before consumption, there's also a small well with two faucets for those who cannot make it home with the fresh fruits. One of the stalls offers home made marmelade and honey, the other one bread and cookies, and the third one sells different vegetables. To conclude, this is a slightly different areal view of the market.
  7. The bench is my favourite detail, although it seems more suitable for slightly larger than minifig scale. The building is nicely done, I like the large windows showing off all the different flowers inside. The roof is too low for my taste, but I'm guessing your stock of those dark red slopes was limited. All in all, it's a nice place to look at. :-)
  8. I was immediately attracted to the lovely combination of white and yellow of the corner bakery, with black window fence. The flowers add a touch of life. Another lovely detail is the entrance of the bakery. The combination of pillars and small and large windows is amazing (especially if you (like me) never know what to do with those pillars other than use them as a hidden support). The awning of the hat shop is another great detail. The color choices for awnings with slopes is more limited, and using hinged bricks gives you an opportunity to use a variety of different colors. That’s definitely something to keep in mind.
  9. I wasn't convinced when I first saw this cafe, but I admit in grew on me. I like the wall with the climbing plant, and the outside seating place looks nice. The architectural style of the building is a mix of likes and dislikes, but as a whole the mix looks kind of sweet. I'm not fond of the windows, but I like the colour combination and sand green roof. All in all, it's a different building from what I'd put in a city, and it stands out. NIce work!
  10. I used the same (or very similar) system for brick build doors in my modular shop. The door was able to open and close right until I started building above them. Well, I could force them to close, but I couldn't reopen them without tearing down part of the wall. I think that continuing the glass wall above the door fixed the door on hinges in a fixed position. The Town hall uses bricks with clips and handles. The door wings are separated by a tiny gap, about 1 mm, and I think that's why the door in Town hall can be opened and closed. I'd suggest you use the same mechanism as in the Town hall if you want your door to open.
  11. Zanki, thanks for posting this link. I usually followed the Brickbuildr for PaB wall, but it hasn't been updated for a while. I checked the Copenhagen store and it seems more recent on wallofbricks. I'm going to CPH in a month, and I'll make sure to stop and check the wall. I'm hoping to score some of the new jumper plates in white.
  12. The Cupcake cafe, Supermarket and Popstar house sound interesting to me. I'm hoping for some more building material for the interior detailing. I find it interesting, I'm just finishing my new modular buildings, two of them being a Cupcake cafe and Supermarket.
  13. As far as billing and shipping address are concerned, I never had problems buying on Danish S@H with my Slovenian credit card, and shipping to my sister's address in Copenhagen. The names and addresses were different, but never a problem. Ughrr, that's nasty finding out you account was missused..
  14. I blogged it already, and I really need to comment it here as well. Although it might look too much black and white, it's really packed with details on the facade. The tiles create a nice and subtle effect, the roof has an interesting texture, and the style of the corner building with the corner sticking out from the rest of the build in higher floors, gives it a very majestic feel. I'd probably add more support to this corner, to help the structure. The interiors is agreat as well. There's lots of inspirational details, like the bakery stand on wheels, or the green table in the top floor (I'd prefer a clear one - it's on my wish list now thanks to you!). Well done!
  15. Well done with the interiors. I prefer the dark tan brick profile version. In my opinion, the best part of the GG is the white bay window, and the brick profile bricks provide an interesting and well balanced contrast.
  16. I'm not a fan of alien invasion, but the building and its details, both interior and exterior are amazing. The scales and the bust statue are well done. it's really a greatmodel.l
  17. This a zoom-ed in picture of the floor tile pattern. I think these shields add a nice 3D-effect to the floor pattern.
  18. I don't remember the last time I was this excited over a set release. I like the style, the colours, parts selection, and I know I want it for sure (at least one, that is). There's also lots of intersting parts, like the sand green windows, the semi round windows, some new triangular tiles in the loby. There is a full wall. The height is lower, but that's common with modular buildings, as it's hard to make it the same height because of the floor above. Also, access is much easier this way. And if the height is too much of a problem, it's easy to build it up.
  19. This an extra large station. The scale is really impressive, and the roof is probably the most distingusihed part of it. The use of the rails as a support for the roof is really good. Well done.
  20. This is amazing. The scale is perfect, and it actually looks bigger than it actually is. The amount of detail is incredible. Congratulations on being front-page.
  21. This looks beautiful. I like the blue, it's daring to be used for the facade, but it interacts lovely with the white and grey and different patterns. I also like some of the little details, like the glass fence, or the round fountain, but the triangle cloth shade is my favourite detail.
  22. I have 1 Cafe Corner and 1 Market Street bricklinked, and then I have one of each modular on display. Additionally, I got an extra Fire Brigade for my sister (but she didn't like it at the time, so I got to keep it). The extra FB got me into buying extra copies as parts pack, so l bought also extra 1 of Palace Cinema, Grand Emporium, Town Hall and 2 Parisian Restaurants. I also have the brown half of the Pet Shop (my sister took the sand blue one). As for the Detective's Office, I haven't made up my mind yet about getting an extra copy for parts. I find extra sets useful as parts pack, since I dont' have a heart taking the displayed modular sets apart and using them for MOCing.
  23. I'm using a mini duster on my modular buildingwhich I keep on open shelves. For small parts or between the studs, I usually use a small paintbrush. Maybe I should try with make-up brushes. I don't have any, so I should look them up.
  24. That's too much pink for my taste. I do like the idea, but this scene was pretty much built to scare Sheldon, right?
  25. This looks sweet. I like the scale of the ferry and the use of microfigs. Well done.
