  1. ok... let's assume that this is the real thing... for now unless this is seriously cheap, it looks like a rip off to me. Most sw fans already have this xwing and i really wonder who's going to buy this set for brown legs of Han solo or another head piece for leia... i don't mind Lego taking as much out of a set/model as possible, but they should at least show some respect to all these fans out there who are spending lots of money to get a complete collection.
  2. g... yoda... i thought you were going to announce you found new sets! :-| anyway, didn't some one say lego would be revealing their stuff on friday night?
  3. They never translate these things in Belgium. that would be kinda problematic, because they'd have to translate it into French, Flemmish and German... the title alone would be filling up the poster :-P
  4. I doubt they will ever renounce to that for all the reasons put forward previously !! TLC need those archetypes that are so popular among kids and AFOLs !! So that sad day will never gloom on the Lego horizon ;-) *yoda* well they did do just that. take Castle: Robin hood: gone; the poor peasant: gone; the witch: gone; the wizard: gone; the classic knight with his shield-bearer: gone; the princess: gone
  5. sellers with the new set simply say: 'the legend main street' is hardly any different to the originel, the originel, in used condition, including a damaged box, is about 90 dollars, then mine, a brand new one, surely is worth about 100-120 dollars... sure it has another number on it, but only collectors care about that'
  6. well it's as simple as Hobbes said: high demand, low supply -----> price goes up. welcome to free market! demand can be high for a number of things: 1) great set 2) large group of interested people 3) special interest for this particular set because it has unique parts ... low supply may have different reasons as well: 1) limited production 2) few sets available in a specific condition 3) not many people willing to sell ... in the case of lego sets, i'd say most expensive sets are expensive because they're popular and fairly rare to find in good to excellent condition and because people are willing to spend lots and lots of money on lego. I think the legends have increased supply a bit but at the same time they pushed prices up as well, because, suddenly you could buy yourself a popular set in new condition with a box for you to open... the term 'legend' doesn't mean much really. i've seen several sets that are far more legendary than some lego legends. I guess becoming a lego legend depends on availability of molds, parts, colours...
  7. they are quite nice, and yep we do need city sets of this type, however, i can't really imagine seeing those fairly large vehicles on our roads...
  8. the set was an US exclusive ...
  9. but then, yoda, what were you expecting? a completely revised xwing? i don't think so... they're just trying to make more out of a set with a minimum of changes... that's just their way of doing things these days... :'-(
  10. just out of curiosity, Pirate Phes, was this a second hand set? i mean, some white parts really need some attention... or better replacement... ;-) My only item of this is in a bag since i bought it a few months back and i don't see any point in buying a second. It's not that I hate the set, but it's most definitely not an unforgetable one...
  11. well... we did have pirates in space: blacktron... ... and those were damn good sets i guess the consesus simply is this: no space as long as sw is around, even though i think there are lots of people out there that would be buying space sets, they just don't have the global popularity of Star wars, so we'd need extremely good sets to make people forget about star wars. also, i'd think that people would not accept space sets in the tradition of the old themes/sets. those sets look too childish compared to sw. trans yellowed canopies? pathetic engines? no greebs? hardly any interior? I'm not sure people would accept that. People may be buying sets of Admiral gidden's type: stylish, detailed, high piece count, but what kind of price would you have to pay for it? and there's another thing: would you guys think that the gap between afol mocs and kid's mocs, in the space theme is the largest in any theme? I mean, a truck, built by a kid can still be great for afols, but how 'bout space ships? no offence, but i haven't really seen many great space mocs by kids lately...
  12. i was wondering if there's a difference in service between the danish on the one hand, and the rest of Europe. If i'm not mistaken, the Danish Lego Service isn't located in Slough, UK, but in Billund. i wonder if they can provide a better service because they're so close to the actual source...
  13. robo force is the absolute low point in space, if you're asking me. thank god they never released those 4 terrible sets in Europe. spyrius
  14. 30 years of sw you say? maybe we'll get a limited edition combo set or something, something they haven't revealed yet... ;-) ... ok... i'm dreaming now :-P wake me up, yoda, with your typical: 'come on , this is tlc we're taking about!' :-P :-P

    WW1 artillery

yeah... i was thinking of building a mark I, but it doesn't really have links, does it? it's this metal band that i haven't been able to create in lego. the links are expensive indeed!
  16. This means that if LEGO unveal 6212 and 10175 tonight as I predicted, then the 2007 sets maybe revealed tonight as well! i'm also curious to see if there's a new design for the boxes or maybe this is general statement, not specifically for lego ...

  18. have fun and a successful trip! *sweet*
  19. do you guys look at the bidding history of sets? i often like to do that just to see if i can reconstruct what actually happened... so here it is, the bidding history for this set: http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=230005321199 i'm mostly confused about mariac9951's behaviour. it seems this member pushed the price quite a bit by him/herself and look at 2968johnl... g... he/she probably thought it would cost him at best 50 bucks or so , but going all the way to 460? hm... still, it's insane... several trains don't even get that high...
  20. that's also the case with boxed sets really. very often you'll find that printed parts have been replaced by normal parts or small parts are missing. normally i wouldn't make a big deal out of that but it is best to take these things into consideration when you're bidding...
  21. not only that! i just voted for the France in the poll! X-D X-D

    Porphyrion

i wonder what people do with these big ships once they're built. it wouldn't take me long to canibalise the model for new mocs and i wouldn't think everybody has enough room to put it somewhere...
  23. i wonder why you 2, jp and Hobbes, appear so often in these football topics if you hate the game :-P
  24. ok... i've been thinking about posting to this topic before but always decided not to because it's such a weird debate... but first, yes, Phes i did say in the past that it's rubbish, a collection of pieces you can use to build a decent fort, provided that you have a vast collection of normal building bricks, because this set doesn't have many... is this a large lego set? it has a baseplate that makes it look fairly large but in terms of basic bricks... i wouldn't think so. Legoredo fortress, for instance, has 93 1x4 actual bricks to build walls, most castles would have two floors if you'd replace the classic baseplate with a raised one, like eldorado's. the building itself isn't really huge, nor is it very impressive. what is this supposed to be? as a set, this has got to be the officer's headquarters. the pirates got the largest ship, so i guess it's only fair to give the admiral, or who ever it is, an HQ. sure, he got a smaller ship as well. how else would you be able to have a battle at sea? nope, this is not a trading post; if i'm not mistaken, you can even see in a catalog somewhere that the black winching device is to lift the treasure chest, not food or whatever... Besides, i don't think officers would be living just above the gate of the port, they'd look for a house far away from the noise, the filth of a harbour or the fort itself... at best, they'd keep a few soldiers at the port to keep law and order. A port wouldn't have a prison either, that would be at the local police office or the actual fort. i don't see civilians nor boats from civilians, all i see is a bunch of pirates who are after the officer's treasure and surely, he doesn't just keep that in the port, but in his fort where it's protected by the garrison, that usually stays in the fort, not the port... so the building has two cannons; sure an actual fort would have dozens; but an actual pirate ship would also have lots of cannons. how many does this one have? 4? so are we then to conclude that this isn't an actual pirate ship but, for instance, merely a scout vessel? is this an island fort? strange question. Lego has positioned the fort close to water because pirate theme is a water based theme. they wanted to distinguish this theme from castle themes and they wanted fans to be able to attack the fort from ships, that's all. i think the piece count doesn't really come into play here. all sets have parts that don't have anything to do with the actual building, like armor, horses, flags, weapons,...
  25. but i do welcome any shared experience/advice , the thing is that i'm only bidding on boxed sets and they very often are rather expensive and popular. sure, i know a few sellers who are using the 'buy now' option, and yes, i use that rather often, but even in those cases, i always find that old lego is expensive! :'-( a few weeks back yoda bid on a boxed classic space ship on my behalf. we started to bid in the last 10 minutes or so to see if there was any activity, any one who was already bidding very high... after all, you don't want to get any bad surprise, like a freak already having set a maximum bid of 200 dollars or so... so we started at 30 euro,... we knew that 30 would be overbid in the last minute anyway, so 30
