Custom swords (well, painted...)
snefroe replied to Starwars4J's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
one question though: doesn't the hand of the fig scratch the paint off? -
that's called 'the space syndrome" *yoda* ; it's like a big space ship that only looks huge on the outside, because of lots of small details and size, but inside there's a MF interior. sure, it doesn't make any sense,

yeah... i think it was announced at the beginning of the year, so not really news anymore... *sad*

thanks for the great review! *sweet* now that i've seen the set, I'm afraid i'm a bit disappointed 8-| 1) the color combination doesn't really do it for me. blue, dark blue, grey, black, tan, white, they're all mixed together without any over all design... 2) is there any interior? it doesn't look like it, and in any case, you can only reach it if you remove the modules... hm... |-/ now it looks too much of a box... 3) there are most certainly some nice ideas in this model and some great parts. the best part of the model is the staircase 4) i don't think he spent much time in thinking about the design. As apo said, the chimneys on top of a garage is kinda weird, there's also a gate, next to another gate which is weird as well... also, if this is supposed to ba a grocery, then the owner has done a lot to hide it. The croissant is nice, but next to the brown box with vegies, there's nothing that suggests this is a shop... 5) the white lamp and the the yellow cylinder are at the same level of the tiles. IMO it should be above the level of the tiles... 6), IMO not worth the 90 euro

filling the hole of the SKELETAL HORSES when not being ridden
snefroe replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
haven't really thought about that... 1) you can use two 1x1 cylinders as well 2) a saddle to hide the gap perhaps? i'd use that in a wild West context anyway... -
Huge quantity Lego SW figs for sale on eBay
snefroe replied to jamtf's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
hm... some one's been bored at work... X-D 16.000 is a reference to bricklink prices. there's one HUGE difference between BL and ebay: in a bl shop, you can just add the figs to your list, but they don't have to be sold in a week's time, so you can ask a fairly high price. on Ebay you need to sell your stuff pretty quickly, so your price needs to be lower than the bl prices, especially if you're dealing with sw collectors. not to mention it's far more difficult to sell a massive amount of figs for e few $1000 then to sell an MISB ATAT for $250... Also, if you mix crappy figs with valuable figs then don't expect people to pay full price for both... he'll seriously have to reconsider his bid if you're asking me... btw, what's officially being regarded as "a brand new minifig?" Once it's out of the box, doesn't that degrade the value of the fig just as it would degrade the value of the set all together? -
Huge quantity Lego SW figs for sale on eBay
snefroe replied to jamtf's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
what a weird bid... does he really think he's gonna sell these in one package? *wacko* a few thousand? hm... don't think so, really. sure, some of the figs are valuable, that doesn't mean some one is willing to let's say pay 5000 dollars on a 2650minifig deal of which you only want a handful really bad... the only way to get some money out of this is by selling them in packages, one valuable mixed with several meaningless figs... but even then, i don't see why any one would buy that if you can get the fig you want on bl for a price lower than the package price -
Not so long ago, Lego decided to add yet another 6 wheeler to her catalogue. No, not a reborn legend in a special series, but a brand new one in a Space's youngest subtheme, Mars Mission. The 6 wheeler is a very old and popular concept in the space theme. It started, if i'm not mistaken, with this one, a personal favorite of mine *wub* *wub* . Since the release of 6927 we've had several others. i guess Lego really liked the notion of having a big car next to a big spaceship, even though the landbased sets never really reached the same height in popularity as did the spaceships... X-O The "Spectral Starguider", as 6933 seems to be called, was part of Blacktron 2, which is, more or less, Part 2 of the Blacktron theme. They're the thieves of the galaxy, the bad guys that needed to be stopped by Space Police... Hm... not sure what 6933 has to do with that though... |-/ The box is a good old fashioned "open cover box, once you've opened the cover, you get to see the goodies of the sets: transparant cockpit parts and a radar. This was actually a very smart marketing trick to get children/parents into buying the big sets, attracted by these fantastic new parts... X-D at first the over all look of the truck is kinda surprising. What you don't see all too well on the cover, is that the front section is fairly wide, 10 studs, the second wheel base only has 8 studs, the third just 4. It looks strange, but you get used to it... the wheels are medium sized, btw, as a kid, I thought they were giant sized, like the ones of the red magnetizer. that was disappointing, but i got over it... X-D i'd say the truck has pretty much all that a young kid requires to create a nice story with 6933 taking the starring role: it has a great cockpit, a second structure behind it and a platform for... whatever... usually, space sets never had any technic components, except for larger wheels, as in the 6927. the only thing coming close to the technic world, was the steering technique. Sure, it's more or less primitive, which is good. i prefer space sets to be "space sets" first and foremost, technic stuff should be limited. Notice, btw, that the steering wheel has been replaced by the engine part and, the backside turns all together, not just the pair of wheels. So whilst turning the engine part, your hand will also move from left to right, depending in which direction your turning the part... That's cool for kids, they can push the thing forward, and at the same time steer in any direction they want... What makes the set unique are these suspension parts: I don't think i've ever seen them in another set, even though lego did experiment with compact suspension parts on small town sets at the time. It adds a great feeling to it all, as if the truck is a real vehicle, struggling with the weight as any other real heavy truck would. Obviously, only the first two pairs of wheel carry them, the third is after all, part of the steering mechanism... The truck follows the great tradition of modular building: a small cockpit can be used as a small 1 manned aircraft, but can also be attached to a larger observation center, making it a medium sized space ship. i love this shot *wub* *wub* The cockpit was sort of a "landmark" for the theme. several other sets used the same design. It's a shame they didn't use it in other sets later on as well... X-O cool radar... in any case, it works pretty well for this set... all in all, i'd say it's a nice set; It's not fantastic, certainly not the best 6 wheeler in the universe, but Lego didn't screw up either. It doesn't have hidden features, nor brilliant details, you get what you see. brickshelf bricklink lugnet

Look what I just got - Report your latest Pirate LEGO acquisitions

honestly, i'd send the thread straight to the buy, sell, trade forum... where it belongs... -
yeah, i've seen it... Considering the low quality of the current title, i'm guessing it's not the work of *yoda* , in fact, it's got TT's signature all over... :-/ so i'll put my money on him... oh well, as i said, i'm just a meaningless worm in the world of staff... :-| X-D i did try to manipulate master Yoda into getting the title "and pigs might fly" as a referrence to him thinking he has a shot in winning a golden C3PO in the contest... unfortunately, he saw through me...

ah :-$ all apologies... :-$ i only read the topic vertically really. think all this gibberish on SNOT techiques and related stuff is academic nonsense anyway...
-
g.... did you have to put it like this, joker or not? :-/ @UniqueBuilder never EVER apologise for building mocs you like, even though others may not...
-
well i find the moc to be too small to be a SNOT building. there's hardly any option to chose between snot or traditional style

Should I wait for a set to go on sale?
snefroe replied to lego townie's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
well, if you're in the US, chances are you'll find the castle at a ridiculously cheap price at the end of the year. My advise: wait untill the end of the year when shops are creating space for 2008 sets -
both sets you mention are brilliant! 8-

Nobody ever talks about Paradisa. Maybe it's because it was created for girls and most of us are guys... :-$ Or maybe the theme is too soft, not enough action... :'-( I don't know if it ever sold pretty well, still it survived several years, so i guess it made somebody happy... that would be me :-$ Paradisa sets aren't town sets but they come very close. the general theme could be described as "one day away from the office", it's about having fun at the beach, enjoying life, being spoiled by drinks, food and surf boys... In fact, some of the sets are very compatible with older town sets. take this one, for instance, or this. and compare that with this: 6419 isn't even the best set of the theme, but is GREAT quality! First of all, it's quite large: it has 3 minifigs (of which two female), 3 horses (of which one rare brown), two very nice buildings, a truck and the yellow cart, not to mention a palm tree!! :-$ X-D the lime green baseplate is extremely nice as well. this one comes in two sections: one 32x32 plate with printing on it, and a smaller 16x32. that's really great, because it allows you build a larger house on both without having to use other, classic green, plates the fences are the downsite of the set. They look nice, sure, but i would have preferred the bricks and plates of the past. The colours of buildings on the other hand are excellent! the grey, white, pink parts are a great combination! :-$ i love these large slopes on top of the buildings. they're printed parts and go nicely withe the baseplate printing i also love these old style boxes! 8- :-$ you could open the front cover of the box and an entirely new and exciting world just appeared in front of your eyes... :-$ In this case, the set has several other great alternative models, some large, some small, but always great quality! there's also a poster in the box, showing just how much fun the life of a minifig can be... Again, there are better sets in the paradisa theme than this one. i'd easily give this set 8/10 brickshelf bricklink lugnet
