Seen this? rest of the folder
  3. congratulations! this is actually one of the only "rereleases" of a classic space set that could follow into the old set's footsteps! it maybe is a bit too flat for me, but it embodies the old spirit of classic space into a new modern uniform pretty well! Please send this to lego with a note saying this is what i want them to release as space set instead of MM.
  4. Seen this? it's pretty nice. Many of these larger castles become so big that it kinda loses the playability of a Lego moc. This however still feels like a lego set... even though pretty large, sure the rest of the folder
  5. too expensive for sure!. first, i need to pay for my airplane return ticket to brussels - billund, in all 500 euro at least, then 1300 euro for hardly 2.5 days... i'd rather spend that money on other trips... I also don't see why it has to be so expensive. where's all that money ging to? the designers have to be paid anyway, they're making some extra money putting them into their own hotel, most of the people will be buying lego afterwards as well... so, except for greed and huge profits, i don't see a reason why this should be so expensive.
  6. well i think that sw covers a fanbase that lego didn't have in the past: the Afols, but apart from that, the most successful theme that is around is city, and castle has seen a revival as well. sw may have been vital for lego's success a few years back but it's not as important anymore. in fact, i find that lego's traditional audience is far more into the police and firefighting sets. They can relate to those every day things far easier than to sw. so 2012 may be the end for the sw freaks, but the general public will still buy sets as long as they're good.
  7. EB's chat room... g... that brings back memories... :-$ most of all, of annoying kids ruining conversations between yoda and me, the last one that got out, got stuck with entertaining those darn kids. Think VCVC screwed it up in the end... but it was fun for a while... when msn was still far away ... nope, don't see a reason to start it up again... however , if there's one thing that could be improved on these boards nowadays, it's the language some of the members. Maybe they haven't crossed the line just yet, but they are flirting with it. and some respect for others may be nice as well... yes, i certainly see some room for improvement there!
  8. happy birthday!
  9. hm... the tank looks cool. Sure, it needs some changes, but most of all, this is probably our best source to get technic links fairly cheap :-$ the big ship... hm... not the best big ship i've seen in history, but it's nice that Lego is finaly producing a big space ship again! Imo it doesn't look great, but interesting parts in there, that's for sure, so i'll get this one too... Think this could be easily changed into a "ice planet II" space ship, a new take on the old ice planet theme... the land gear looks interesting too... the alien craft is rubbish...
  10. Happy birthday! *sweet*
  11. to me, juniorisation means you only have a handful of really BIG parts to build your model. it takes 5 minutes to build and you can only build that one particular set. Consequently, there's no joy in building the model, the set itself hardly has details, there's no challenge in building the thing either. the entire process of building a lego set, which is far more important to me than playing with the set, is gone... that's why i complain about it. Luckily, Lego has realised that it was becoming a problem, so now they're still using big parts, but they're adding lots of smaller and detailed parts too, making the set larger, but also more interesting for me. The airplanes are an excellent example: the hull sections are big, but the interior is detailed and has several smaller parts to make your plane look more realistic.
  12. Well i'd say the years 1985-1995 were by far the best. but if i have to make a choice, it'd be the late 80's (1987-1989): -Space had its best years with the rise of futuron and in 1988 Blacktron 1, by far the best space theme ever -town was still a town: diversity and high quality of the sets were strong points back then, sure, we have quality today, but most of the sets are more or less stand alone sets, they're too big for a town, and we do get too many firefighters and police sets... -castle was going strong too. Big castles, princesses, ghosts, Robin Hood and army building sets, not to mention a high quality... -Lego technic was evolved from nice but simple sets to sophisticated stuff with electrical motors and hydraulic parts -1989 saw the first Pirate wave, probably the most important change since the creation of the three classic themes in 1977-1979. new colors, many new parts, completely new minifigs, super quality sets... need i go on? -trains in the 80s were superior to anything before or after -then there were the idea books... i miss them sooooo much! Sure, the early 90s were brilliant too. The model team started in 1990, the red monorail was released in 1990, pirates and space were bulding on the foundations of the late 80s and produced some really good sets, but Lego completely screwed up in the late 90s with the creation of weird stuff in the sideline, "town" collapsed, "Legoland" as a brand was replaced by "Lego system", many themes turned out to be very short lived like all the aquastuff, rockraiders,... Quality didn't really disappear all together, some themes were fantastic, like Western, but the 90s lack focus, cohesion, a clear cut vision. Lego just got lost... They didn't know anymore which road to take. it seems inspiration was gone. In the end, the late 90s marked the end of an era: thinking pc games would take over the world, Lego decided to step away from the classic bricks and sets and moved towards Jack Stone kinda construction toys and electronics. In hindsight, it's shocking to see how this company got lost so fast and so easily.
  13. i don't think it's a logical decision to first release Indy sets and then later on JT sets. In that case, they should have started with JT sets and drop Indy all together. Lego's ways of taking decisions is often weird, and success does not always assure the continuation of a line. Vikings was successfull too, but was dropped after 2 years and a handfull of sets... well i read in our newspaper today that Lego's sales in the US and Europe are stagnant at best. I was surprised to read that though. the shelves have been practically empty for a week now, well, except for MM sets. They're still here in large quantities, but most of city and sw is gone... AND, Lego is a BIG hype in Russia and Eastern Europe... that's their potential market. wonder how that will impact their strategy in the future.
  14. johnny has been replaced by Indy, it's that simple. Lego is using this particular license to boost sales, especially in the US. They're trying to use a well known name in American culture to put themselves back on the map. Not a bed idea if you realise Lego sales have been going down in 2007 in Europe and the US. So no Johnny Thunder anymore and i don't expect him back...
  15. well now that i have it, i can't say it's too expensive. It's a good design, it's good quality, it's a fairly big set for a walker. 50 euro is doable ...
  16. i'm actually surprised to see the nose art on a lego set. In this case, it's a typical WW2 thing: a creature (in this case of the sw universe), a red text, probably the name of this ship, and mission markings. I'd say this individual gunship has about 40 bomb missions... yep, the sticker looks out of place. maybe it's because of the prototype and all, but the sticker looks whiter than the bricks. that's never good. I think the idea of having nose art is great, but it doesn't look very well executed. It's also likely that it's a one sided sticker. nose art usualy only comes on one side. honestly, i think it would have been better if the sticker were on a plate like the one to the upper right... With a little luck there's also a sharkmouth in the box, next to this sticker... or a "skull and bones". that's popular too... that way, people who buy multiples can create individual lego models... for me, the good thing about the nose art is that it's one step closer to actual lego airplane models.... kinda waiting for those...
  17. this is a great set! :-$ better than the first... however, it would have been nice to have had a cargo version instead of the one we already had a few years back... still, most definetely worth the 140 euro or so price tag
  18. got one today! the speeder is crap... except for the round 4x4 round plate i'd say it's a waste of money.... thank god there are 4 guns and four clones... that's right... clones, cos they all look exactly the same! :-P but they look cool. the helmets may be a bit too large, but oh well...
  19. Thanks for the link! :-) i like the cover! it reminds me of the older ones AND there's some cool humor being used, like the poor city guy trying to hold back the knight's horse or vader having to defend himself against the other city guy... :-P or is it some ferari dude?
  20. my first thought was "great" as well, but now that i've looked at them for a while I'm not all that impressed anymore. the racing car still look good, but it more or less looks like a copy of the black car. They could have gone for a different style... the ferry isn't all that spectacular. it's the most classic of them all, very 70's lego basic, imo a great source for parts, true, but not all that special as a model the other boat looks cool! i'll be waiting for some more pics though...
  21. hm... saw this one in the shop for 65 euro. totally dislike the set though... it just misses the good looks and charisma. i don't understand Lego... wasn't there any better candidate to be a lego set than this?
  22. so the at-te and the gunships are entirely new builds or remakes? |-/ V-19, magna droid, fighter tank... never heard of it... that's expanded universe?
  23. well actually i bought this thing today and i have to say it looks quite nice. sure, it's mf-sized now, but the design is good. I bought it out of curiosity though, just to see how they arranged the wheels. It seems they're using this large 10x10 trans clear dish and around it technic links. They don't fit perfectly around the dish, but it comes pretty close. Still, i'd see this combination of brown links and this dish appear as a window in some sort of steampunk design. And yes, it does function as an actual wheel. The color combination is pretty nice, the parts collection is really good. only 20% will end up in the crappy parts bag, the rest is pretty useful.. for a space fan... The droids... hm... well... they come with the territory i guess... Is it worth the 25 euro? hell no, but you guys know how it is with sw sets: a chunk of the money has to go to George, or he gets upset... I wouldn't dismiss the hellfire as the crappiest sw set on the planet. It kinda reminds me of the Genosian set of 2003, ithink... it's not the world's best set but i don't think it's bad. In fact, for a space fan who has to live with MM sets these days, this set isn't bad at all... wish the MM sets had this type of quality .... i'm not so happy with the stability though.... the thing doesn't really stands straight... the front points a bit high up because the back is heavier than the front... sorry for the crap quality of pics, btw, i'm known as the world's more dreadfull photographer, so i have to watch over this reputation :-P :-X
  24. hm... i wonder if i'll get my prize there at the event, you know , the one i was promised at the last event in Germany... :-X X-D
