2004/2005 Hunting Star Wars Sets and availability
snefroe replied to DoubleT's topic in LEGO Star Wars
thanks for that turbo tank price... i noticed the huge box, but there was no price tag on it... the price of all sets is 0.99 euro lower than TLC's, it seems btw, i've had that French cartoon stuff as well... the good thing is... you forget all about it when you get older ... or perhaps you're just repressing those awful memories... :P -
i just saw that we've reached the 300th member... do we have any statistic on new members per week of the last year or so?

2004/2005 Hunting Star Wars Sets and availability
snefroe replied to DoubleT's topic in LEGO Star Wars
sorry to revive this topic... star wars arrived in Belgium this Monday, even though most shops still have no sets at all. Some have 1 or 2 sets... So far, only Dreamland seems to have the full line. thought some might be interested... -
It's supposed to look modern, Naboo is a very artfull, modern planet. In the days of the Republic, some things were even more modern than they were when the Galaxy was ruled by the Empire. During the Empire's rule, all normal technology went backwards, while the militairy technology improved, that why all things look so old and non-modern in the OT. Many people don't understand that, they think because the prequels are situated almost 20 years before the OT that all the people from that time are dumbasses ;) . i know that's the official explanation for the difference in colors/styles and at first, you'd have to say: it's logical, but it's not. especially a rebel fleet would have to use second hand planes, left overs of the old fleet, second hand piece of junk,... not state of the art x-wings and snowspeeders... So, in reality, they would have to use the yellow starfighters of ep III in ep IV, V,... instead of bright yellow in ep III, you would have to have faded yellow in epIV,V... Or we would have to see the X-wing in its full glory in epIII, fighting in a real air force, not a rebel force... 20 years or so between epIII and IV simply isn't enough to replace an entire generation of craft... I guess GL knew this was going to be a problem, but in my view, he never really solved that... And Apo, i'm not saying that you're calling me a bad painter, I'm saying I'm a bad painter... why do you think I'm building lego models and not model kits... :P
-
Sorry, but I have to disagree with this: With standard silver paint brush you will never achieve the same results you get with polished chrome. Look for example at silver / gray cars: You can still see that the color of them is some gray'ish silver (sometimes covered by with clear paint brush). But then look at chrome: Chrome is like a mirror, you can't notice any shade of a color! Chrome parts and silver painted parts are something completely different! i think the specialists use all sorts of coats to tackle this... or perhaps it's just me being a bad painter... in any case, i feel that painting lego models is a bridge too far for me...

trust me, darn good model builders (certainly not me) have all it takes to duplicate this result... the model is also not really acurate either. the builder should have used cones instead of domes for these pods on the wingtips see: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery....y.cgi?i=1180491 by the way, did you know that the star wars designers "stole" this design? it's basically this: http://jimbarnhart.net/MilPics2/nmeii_unit...ackbird_03.html

this guy used airbrush or whatever to build this model, in fact, it wouldn't be hard to do same. it's one universal color, you can easily find a spray can in your local model builder shop... there are no specific small details in any other color,... you've obviously never seen websites on 1/48 aircraft models... the real stuff would, by the way, be weathered and far from shining like that. but sure, it's nicely done... the model itself is not really attractive. it's not sophisticated or an original design... sure, i've seen worse and the entire context (the box, the other models,...) looks all very great, but let's not exagerate. it's a simple basic design, nothing more, nothing less; without the chrome paint, many of you probably wouldn't even like it... the 3000 euro argument is nonsense. i can paint the same ship with a traditional model builder's can (and i'd most likely use silver instead of chrome and you wouldn't even notice the difference). the can would cost me 1 euro! sure, it's going to cost 15 euro or so, if i use a spray can instead of air brush...

Eurobricks Badges-June 24th deadline
snefroe replied to jonfett's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
yoda's right, jon, great work :oo -
another thing: the display 1) it's in the hotel, you say. is it in a conference room, or in the lobby,...? 2) will the public be able to see, but more important, touch the stuff? 3) when are we going to set up the models (friday, saturday...) 4) I'll need a corner of the entire model, meaning, 1 of my grey plates has to be in one of the corners of the model 5) how do you see this entire model (rectangle, irregular shape,...) i don't think i'll have the time to start building the model before mid May... however i'll try to get a design ready asap
-
i'll make sure that you can replant them :P

come to think of it, i've never seen children being interested in the Pick a bricks we've got here from time to time. at best they put their hand in box and see what's going on, but that's it... It's as if they really need a box and a model(s) (and instructions too) to get started with being creative... I've always thought that these pick a bricks were more attractive to adults. it seems you guys have come up with a possible explanation for that.

The Eurobase 2005 - Corridor Poll
snefroe replied to ApophisV's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
i'll probably have to cut some trees to make room for the construction of the module. if you're interested, you can always send a cart or whatever to my module to get them, if you want to... :P -

i'm probably just moaning about crappy details here, but could you leave an extra space between "event" and "2005"? it seems to me that those two are almost glued to each other. but this could just be a wrong impression... Thanks Jon, great work, mate :P -

that was also my original thought, but too long for a 1 x 8, i guess i'd also like "2005" and not " '05" -
great work, apo... I'll most likely build a "construction module", meaning an unfinished module with lots of spacial construction workers and craft... so, i'll take whatever corridor is decided... I'll most likey take two grey plates: one: the module under construction; two: a "temporary craft park" for materials and craft... 1) wouldn't it be great if there was some kind of mark/sign on the corridor if you enter some one elses corridor? 2) what color are we thinking for this corridor? are we going for one universal color or different colors? 3) i'm also thinking of a radar dish (2 x 2 trans yellow) as a light on the ceiling... 4) i voted for the second variant, even though i like number 1 the most... the first has a more or less "royal touch" to it that is only fitting to a City of ambassadors. the second is just a monolithitical building, but i guess easier to build for most members (in terms of available parts)

according to this, fall 2005: http://www.hccamsterdam.nl/brick/ncatalog/index.htm

i think yoda's news simply was the result of a badly informed employee. the catalogue clearly says we're going to get the Vikings in Europe and we really have no indication coming from TLC that they've changed the decision. There's no indication that we're going to see some sort of a revival of the dino adventure theme either. it would in fact contradict other statements from TLC.
-
i think the new city line has great potential for another line of city sets. TLC could easily produce a few cars, based on the model of the police transport car. i'm also looking for some continuity in these city sets. we've had too many too different city lines in the last few years, even though the themes were very often similar. you can't build loyalty for city sets if you're constantly changing the style of these sets... i'm also puzzled by the XXL crane... even though it's a great set, it's not really city compatible. same thing with the mining truck we're going to recieve in june. That kind of truck is usually used in mine pits... not really in the middle of cities...

perhaps we should add "billund" considering that we might go to windsor and M -
now that we're talking about releases... i was a bit surprised by Yoda's news, saying that dinos will be available in Europe... Makes you wonder why TLC set up two lines (vikings in europe/dinos in US) in the first place...
-
perhaps there's a difference in release dates between us and europe?
-
I sure think this sset is way too much expensive for what it is. Come on 70

mine is in August, so we'll have an early one as well :P
