well... let's face it, creating bley wasn't lego's best decision in history, even tho some sw models look quite nice with that color, like the 2004 snowspeeder, but for a castle, it just doesn't look right... Even the new light grey doesn't give a good display for a castle model. so i guess, i'd go for a tan color or the old grey, with brown floors on the walls and towers...

1) hm... you're such a difficult man to please, pirate, but I'll show some sign of good will and take some more pics tomorrow. 2) remember you asking me to take a pic of the custom cannon and a real lego canon? I can't do that as long as i don't find my real lego cannon... i missplaced it somehow...

ok... hm... wouldn't that mean that all minifigs are decendants of the very first minifig? or am i still missing the point? is this weird thread moving anywhere anyway...
-
could you please expand on this revelation, pirate? i mean the reds refer to the red and white crusader; blues to blue torso/legs guys, and the guards?... whatever happend to the black knight? and the other red?

hm... my custom cannon didn't go anywhere, my real lego cannon did. anyway, not so very patient pirate, i've made a small moc with the custom cannon. the pic isn't brilliant, but here it is: i especially like the trees :oD i've always thought that the lego palm trees were nice but not really in scale with the minifigs. I mean, many of these tropical trees are huuuuuuge. so i thought, let's see if we can come up with an alternative...

stickers are terrible! it's alright if you apply them very well, but i'm not a big fan, so i'll go for stickers!

well... exoforce isn't really kid friendly either... nor are the HP graveyard, death eaters,... i don't think the company needs a license of a pirate film to produce a pirate theme, but i guess Matt is right on this: There is an established alliance between megablocks and Disney and there's also is a strong alliance between lego and Lucas/spielberg. in both cases it is very likely that the partner of the alliance has a first mover advantage: for instance, disney will only make a deal with lego if megablock doesn't want a specific license. so i guess, for lego, disney is off limits... what i don't understand is this: why doesn't lego produce a new pirate theme? demand for pirate sets is huge, as the prices of old sets on bricklink and ebay indicate...

i'd go for the ISD: it's by far the best model of both it also has better parts than the death star; sure, it's large and rather heavy, so you'll need a decent spot in your room/house but the people who saw my isd were very much impressed by it... the structure needs some modification after a while, as already mentioned by Deinonychus, but apart from that, it's a great model to have! :oD

i was looking for new information about sets, i think. there was this rumour about viking sets, so i went to check on brickset, and i think they had a link to eb about viking news. There i saw the prototype sets. i don't know any more how long i "lurked" before becoming a member... i also remember being very happy with the European element of the website; i'm certain that was an important thing when i decided to become a member.

first, i don't have mermaids, nor do i expect to buy one in future, unless the set is ridiculously cheap, but: 1) i would use a mermaid in a pirate set only as a statue on the bow of a ship, like that pirate of the first pirate ship, ... but a lot better... i'm not sure how i would do that, but i might use these things: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=554 and put them between the torso and the tail, if that's possible... i would also change the head... 2) i've been trying to read the weird discussion on how a mermaid would stand up, or how the lego version stands up... Bare in mind, a mermaid doesn't stand up like we do (they live in the sea, remember?). but if they were to come to land, they would crawl on the ground, and use the tail to move forward. they would not stand up and be supported by the tail... so if the lego minifig can't stand up it's only because it's a perfect replica of the real thing! :P

what strikes me as a particular risk is the fact that this series isn't even aired in several countries around the world. I mean, the lego company clearly hopes that the sets will be bought by the fans of the tv-show. Youngsters will recognice the stuff from tv and ask mum and dad to buy that for them. but what if the show isn't on tv? Why would this theme sell in Belgium, for instance, without having the backing of the tv show? wouldn't it just dissappear in the large number of construction toys, baby toys, ...

20 against 12! hm... i think it's time to call the family members, pirate! :P and i agree: it's all lego's fault! :P

I don't think Lucky Luke is that known outside Europe ;) . oh yes he is...
-
this very nice indeed! :oD i did see the links in the other thread as well but couldn't find them again, so i'll support Phes' request... :P i do think it needs some lights, tho. the poor guy won't see much after dark... i'm also missing a barber shop and chinese guy doing the laundry, or didn't you guys ever read any Lucky Luke? :P

i'm sorry, pirate... i can't find my one and only lego cannon! :() *sing* i looked everywhere... i also can't find the soldier of the same set... my guess is they both took off to conquer the world... :P i've been looking around on the internet to find a pic i can compare it with, but i haven't been succesfull... this means i'll have yet another good look around the house and if i can't find one, i'll just buy one on bricklink. i don't have a hull, but i do have something else in mind, an idea i had for my eurobase 2005 module, but as you know, that never saw the light... i think you guys might like it ... so.... stay tuned!

Yeah, the price point will be somewhere in the vicinity of $80-$100. I'll try to confirm this. Jay I really hope you are wrong about this ;) Really, 800 pieces is really short to have a great model !!!! The Sarlacc should be at least like 50 pieces to be good (without even mentioning the pit he lives in). The set is going to be tiny !!!!! Its really weird, I was guessing the number of pieces to be a little less than the Crawler but a lot more than 800 !!!! Oh well, this needs confirmation but I do hope for it to be a great model !!!! well i guess it depends on how many small detailed parts are involved. 780 doesn't sound that bad at all... sure, i'd like to see a 1500 piece barge as well, but the price would be quite high also... i guess the sarlacc will have 50 pieces, including very small connectors,... in fact, i'd be surprised if it's only 50 pieces.

to be honest, i don't really see much difference between the reds and the blues. they can easily be two factions in one theme... the spanish armada looks great, i still find it weird to have these spanish soldiers fighting pirates... they don't seem to be in the right time-frame, especially compared to the reds and the blues... i guess i'll wait and see if any one of you can convince me to vote for any of these three....

i believe he was banned for bad language, not because, like vcvc, he was spamming... i don't think you'll be able to reach 800 posts if you're a spammer

I've always though I'd have a bigger sword than Jay. But maybe that's just me compenstating....... FOR the lost eye of course!! Dirty minds. perhaps you can use the very old castle swords? they're a bit longer, round at the top, and the blade is wider as well.

well i think it is very good, but i don't think the idea works very well on a 8 x 8 vignette. i mean, the action (the whale going down, the water splashing up...) may look even better if we saw just a little bit more of the sea calming down... but i don't think you can do much more if you're working on a minifig scaled vignette. you don't have room to use more bricks and you don't have a painter's palette, so... but it's nicely done! any person with some knoledge on Moby Dick would recognice it... and it's a key moment of the story, isn't it?I guess this moment refers to the message behind the book: blind ambition, obsession leads to your own downfall... what do you think?

i see it now... now I also see why people have questions about the blue parts... personnaly, i've always thought that building the ocean with lego must be one of the most difficult things to do. Sure, you can use trans blue parts. i'm not sure how that would look for an entire plate of ... 40 x 20 or so? in any case, i would try to get some direction in the waves. a whale for instance, displaces lots of water, the level of water should be a bit higher around the whale,... i would have added more relief to it... stuff like that... i guess another problem is that the ocean never really has a uniform blue colour, but all sorts of shades of blue, green, black,... but anyway, a very nice diorama, indeed!

no it doesn't work on my pc either. it's probably been taken off line...

we also have these blue boxes +500 extra in Belgium. here are pics of the 500 parts: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=150202 to be clear about this, these are pics taken by a member of Belug.be, their not mine.
