let's just keep it at this: admins have had words with the Lego Group (basically Jake) and conversation was not particularly polite... anyway, what's done is done... however, yoda, i just found a title for eb: Eurobricks, the unmentionable website! :P
-
1) we are a website about news... 2) some admins have discussed this with Jake before and he was never interested in finding a compromise or a solution about this 3) i have, as some one who went to the eb-event, far more to complain about the company than they have about us. besides, think about the free advertising they get thru us... 4) i don't see any legal issue here. we didn't leak the photos, nor did we take them... in fact, jake wouldn't even ask us, he would just threaten us with whatever he can think of... we're already number 1 on his black list, so who cares, anyway, come to think of it, all the other websites are so naive, scared and meak that we most likely ARE the black list... 5) we don't have any allegiance with the company, so i don't really see why we should follow their wishes...

hm... i wonder... sure, you're not allowed to use the word and logo "lego", but i'm not sure this copycat is doing anything wong... you're free to resell your stuff if you don't want it anymore and quite a few people at bricklink are selling sets of their own... the same works for the chinese goods, even tho i haven't really seen anything... i guess it indicates that people are willing to buy real lego pirate sets, but only at lower prices than lego offers them...

just saw yesterday that the orange tiles on the b-wing are in fact stickers... damn!

you're not alone, i'm affraid... these planes remind me of Fisher-Price toys, they may be cool or nice or whaever, but they hardly seem like lego to me either... However, i'm kind of hoping to see them in detail and up close. perhaps the interior may be great... in any case, if i ever buy the plane, and i don't think i'll ever will, i will at least give it lego wings... the airport theme doesn't give me good vibes, anyway. looks like one to forget asap...

i think makro is dutch-belgian. i've checked it out, and most of the bricks are slopes, 1x2 bricks (74 red, 52 black,...), but few 1xX bricks ...
-
i found this thanks to belug.be it's a bucket with 2000 pieces for 45

isn't lego a little bit too late with this manga theme? as far as i know, we all prepared ourselves for a major mangawave 6-7 years back (mostly with comic books), but that failed completely. we do have a tv animation series, but i'm not sure if that's very popular... anyway, does anybody see a 2x2 brick on these things? :P
-
i don't think we've seen a rerelease here... i'd like a rerelease now... i was in my dark ages when wild west moved in. As a kid, i most defenitely would have loved this theme. did it really last three years? g...

western sets were nicely detailed and well produced, but for some reason didn't sell. In fact, you can still buy smaller sets of the line in Belgium... But maybe there's another element in the western's commercial failure: the lines that were supposed to be strong and attract new fans, like city, were weak and not appealing... i also think lego lost a lot of fans to computer games in those years...

thanks, cutty i find this to be a weird theme for the lego company...
-
i think we're talking about the january catalogue, i guess we'll be seeing viking sets in summer next year, that's the next catalogue...
-
perhaps you're too easily satisfied, yoda :P i guess this is the january catalogue?
-
well... we do have the world's championships in germany in 2006, if i'm not mistaken

thanks cutty! at first i was quite happy. the hospital theme looks good, even tho i was hoping for a less materialistic style... it doesn't give a warm image of a hospital, i like the cars, tho the airport sucks. i don't like the style. again, too modern, too materialistic,... it almost looks like a jack stone building... the planes... almost look like a one piece model... the exo force: god help us... and i thought dino was the low point... i like the triceratops, that's pretty cool all the rest is just filling of the catalogue; ferrari may be great for the fans, the pods... sure... the racers...
-
thanks people... in future i'll try to build dioramas when i'm taking photos. as you say, it just looks a lot better that way. bars and booms... i guess i was asking for this... :P hm... the structure of the ship probably wouldn't survive the pressure of the deep sea, however, we're talking about synthetic materials in the 24th century or so, so i guess they've all figured it out by then... :P the line is made up by 50 grey and 50 red wings (2x4)

V-W-1F i was at Norfolk Space Center a few days ago and i was allowed to take a few pictures of this small submarine... Yes, a space center with a submarine... :P i talked to the crew later on at the bar and they explained the entire workings of the ship to me, ... but guess who had to pick up the bill... :P this submarine is a ship for missions of exploration and reconnaissance. it gathers information for whatever purpose. they attatch all kinds of sensors, cameras and stuff at those two bars at the front (they prefer the word "boom", for some reason) and it's all controlled by the guy in the front seat. he/she most of all needs a good position to check on the equipement, the guy in the back seat is the pilot, he/she sits a lot higher, that allows him/her to have a better view to move around in the sea... the white tanks are a new addition to the ship. they allow it more or less to land and take off at land bases and ships... they're basically rocket boosters. in theory, the rotors should also be able to fly the sub, but that has never been tested for whatever reason... in any case, it will never be the "hottest" fighter in town... at the back, there's a small unmanned sub that is remote controlled and there's also a winch, even tho the ship doesn't really have the power to transport heavy cargo thru the air... it's mainly used to salvage wrecks of boats, planes, spaceships,... that went to the bottom of the sea... once these things are at the surface, they're picked up by large landbased cranes or boats... the stabalisors look like fins... the crew had no idea why that is. they think it was just a result of the engineer's imagination running wild... but it looks kinda nice... the entire section can also be tilted to one side, left or right. that increases maneuverability, it seems... the only thing that's missing is room for a small team of 4-6 divers. there seems to be a somewhat larger version of the ship, called the supergupy... but that's still topsecret. i'm gonna have to do a lot more than pay a bill at the bar to get pics and info of that ...

i can't read the entire article, yoda and it's in dutch, but here's the link anyway: http://tijd.info2clear.com/archief/zoeken....n.aspx?qf1=lego btw, the Lego Group isn't popular in the retail sector at all... for instance, they had major distribution problems in summer, so many retailers got a letter from the company saying that the lego sets they should have had in June, will not arrive before the end of October. Any idea how terrible that is for a small retailer?

we finally have a pick a brick in Belgium. it's part of the Fun toystores. the yellow bags are quite small, about half the size of the traditional white lego bags. they're 8.99
-
that's pretty nice! i remember us staring at the back side of the box, hoping to see what was really in it... i may have to pick one up before years end...
-
i'm more and more convinced that jipay's right on these lego prices, they just don't add up... a local retailer of toys even claims that 37% of the price of sets shown in commercials on tv is taken up by costs related to showing that commercial. Also, lego has been accused to having illegal price agreements with Carrefoure, a major supermarket chain in Europe...

THE OLD Official Eurobricks Straightshooters List
snefroe replied to The Middleman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
i'll nominate master yoda, for being a good customer and host when i visited him in paris -
i was on legofan's website yesterday and i came across the article which announced the selection of the next cycle of ambassadors. strangely enough, most ambassadors of the first cycle were reappointed... that got me thinking. did anybody see/hear,... any sign of the ambassadors in the last six months, let's say, the first cycle? can these people show us any evidence that lego changed models/decisions, based on their advice? how many ambassadors are, in fact, active members of this website, for instance? can't think of any one... perhaps on rebelscum or fbtb... why is it that tlc didn't bother to call for candidates thru all major websites of the community and why didn't the first cycle of ambassadors advice tlc to do so? why is it that a majority of ambassadors was re-enstated? what are the criteria these days to becoming an ambassador? it seems to me, based on the bios of these guys, you need to be a family man, have a job and you have been playing with lego all your life...
-
it seems unlikely that tlc would only produce a hospital as a single set. i guess we'll see a theme like the firefighters or police: one smal car; one large ambulance; one large helicopter and one hospital... it would be nice if tlc were to release a minifig package with: 2 police officers, two medics and 2 firefighters... hm... now, where did i leave lego's CEO's telephone number again? :P
-
now that you mention the hospital line, and i believe we're pretty sure it's coming next year, when i told my local retailer about this, she was immediately disguted by this bad news... it seems, many years ago, the lego employees organised a strike to boycot the hospital set that was being produced at the time. they were offended by something about the set... she couldn't remember exactly, but in any case, there were no hospital sets that year... i know, weird story...
