  1. i also would have loved a shipwreck of the pirates or the defenders with sharks swimming around it and some minifigs on a few wooden plates...
  2. 1) i think there is a huge difference between Castle before KK and KK sets: KK basically is two camps fighting each other. all you get are weapons of war and structures, like towers or castles. The pre KK sets were far more into creating a medieval world, with peasants, farmers, the legedary Inn, ghosts, dragons,... it was far more innocent, if you're asking me, far more like the real medieval world... 2) i still like KK 1. sure, it's all about war and the minifig heads don't really look appealing to me (especially compared to pirates), but you can mix them with the stuff from before KK. 3) i don't like KK 2. I feel they crossed a line there. the link with reality is completely gone, the colors don't make any sense to me, the sets aren't attractive. do you even get the chance to build real armies like you used to? i guess all sets pre KK are castle to me. i don't care about subthemes or anything, it's all the same to me. KK is different because it no longer carries the title "Castle".
  3. i'm interested in these brown sails... they look good! :oD
  4. I did get a clear answer when I asked them why the pirate theme was cancelled. Not that I entirely believed them. what did they tell you?
  5. i'm wondering if there's a generation thing going on. I mean, is there a connection between age and the castle sets you like the most? i think that's the case for me. I grew up when yellow castle was released, i barely saw 6080 later on. At that point, i was a spaceman, and by the early 90's, castle was far far away... other people probably grew up with 6080 and because of that, prefer 6080... just guessing here...
  6. i did see it, but i decided to wait with the ebay bidding untill 2007. i first need to buy all the old sets i can still find in the toy shops, like those three pirates, a few castle sets, western sets... I missed out on lots of stuff during my dark age, so i'm trying to get all the old sets i can still find in the shops first... there's also a problem of room. where to leave it all? however, it's getting harder not to buy thru ebay as well, because the sets you see ... man, two weeks ago: a complete pirate ship (think it was the first large pirate ship): 12.5
  7. just added three sets to the pirate collection: yet another 6235 6252 6234 adding 1788
  8. wow!! you effectively summarised the 20 years and dozens of sets of lego's Castle theme! :P
  9. i'd love that as well!
  10. it's a great campaign! i talked to a teacher of 3-4 year olds the other day and she told me these kids were all very much interested in pc games and they were all capable of building piramids... on a computer screen! however, when the teacher gave them a box with duplo bricks, they simply had no idea what to do... now she's trying to teach the children how to play with duplo bricks... i think we very often forget how vital it is to play with real objects like bricks. you get a certain insight on how things are being built in the real world, how things work,... I also think it's a good thing to limit tv/pc time for individuals, children or adults...
  11. i agree, the fort is brilliant! I'm just sooooo frustrated that i didn't by it when lego released it as a legend... i remember i bought the playmobil fort when i was a kid because lego just didn't have one, i would have prefered a lego fort tho...
  12. ok. but in that case, you shouldn't buy any western set, but just the parts you like via BL...
  13. you could at least use the windows and doors, the fences, the money, the minifig tools, the logs, the barrels, the horse, the cannon for a pirate ship. Did you even check the inventory list, pirate?
  14. so many indeed... 1) The Police 2) Pink Floyd 3) Eagles the list more or less changes from time to time...
  15. i don't think it sold very well... you can still buy small wild west sets in retail shops... zorro would be a nice connector between pirates and wild west, after all, isn't this time frame of zorro also famous for the piracy at sea? however, there's this voice in the back of my mind saying "hope not, lego would never spend as much time/money/people in a new theme based on movie scenes as they did in the past with the wild west theme"... set 6765 may be a nice set for a pirate, but only for the parts. As such, both themes aren't really compatible, which is rather normal, one theme is based in the Wild Western desert, the other at sea in central - South America
  16. great review, man!! 1) i was going to buy it, but now that i've seen it, i guess i'll use the money on other sets... 2) do you confirm that the no-stud-corners are stronger on this plate, than corners on normal studded baseplates? 3) can you take a pic of just the baseplate? just out of curiousity... 4) the main building looks nice, but the garage and the platform are nothing special, as you said 5) this operation room looks rather strange to me, looks like a torture chamber with these saws... :P 6) i would give it a 6/10: the baseplate was a very bad idea; the position of the garage doesn't make any sense; the helicopter is not really what you'd expect of a medical chopper these days; it seems to me those minifigs are rather "saving" this set from going under entirely... 7) based on your gallery photos, the printed tile of the helicopter is not new, it's from sw
  17. hm... i think we said we'd have 500 members by the end of summer, but we did that as well... :P ok... so here's another prediction: at the end of August next year we will have reached 100000 posts...
  18. i refuse to vote! the entire theme was simply brilliant! One of the best ever! :oD i'm just sorry i was still in my dark age when it all started, so i only have a few smaller sets i've been able to find since my comeback, and as many as i can possibly find!
  19. 2005 was a good year but also a bad year. Don't forget, they had to go thru some very painful moments this year, like selling the parks, closing plants, dismissing people,... I think the lego people see 2005 as part 1 of the operation "change the company for the future", 2006 will be the closing part. in terms of sales 2005 has got be a good year. City sold incredibly well in Belgium, but the succes of 2005 is without any doubt the bulk buckets. We've seen more different type of buckets then ever before, in every price range, loaded with 200 to 2000 bricks of all colors and shapes! The classic brick is back, and it's here to stay!! and, thank God, the company is very much aware of this evolution, so i'm hoping they won't change the strategy again, even tho you never know with The Lego Group. I also know from retailers that vikings is selling very well, better than the other themed sets of the passed few years, and according to lego's top 30, dino is also selling very well. what is responsable for better sales? 1) better products 2) discounts! i've never seen so many discounts in my life! in the past, at best, you got a discount for only small sets and defenitely not more than 10%, now even the large sets are being sold with discounts of 30% or more... They're also using other strategies, they sell for instance, combined sets, like tri fighter and arc for 50
  20. based on the amount of second hand lego you can buy these days, it's kind of hard to imagine old grey will one day disappear all together... you know how it goes, don't you? lots of people who are buying current sets will sell their ISD's, of what's left of it, in a couple of years, and will return to their Dark Age, others will see their Dark Age for the first time...
  21. i guess it's an event where a few people decide to build one moc, in this case, they most likely created a fleet by combining all their ships...
  22. hm.... sure, there are large parts on this thing, but i don't think it's actually <insert that tiresome argument>. ok, it could have been a 1000-parts set, and that would have made me a lot happier, but 400 parts, large and small, for 30-40
  23. another trick would be to write down you're taking courses to improve computer skills, driver's license,... you just have to show them you're still motivated. It's btw also extremely frustrating to be one of the last three and not to get the job... ;)
  24. just a remark and i know it's been said before, but if you post pics of mocs, could you please: 1) tell if you're the creator or not 2) if not, give a link to your source or identify the creator of the moc (i'd be happy with a brickshelf link) there are fair reasons for this: 1) it's not particularly legal/fair to post pics without permission or without a link to the source 2) a creator deserves to get the credit for his/her work 3) it's less confusing for all the other members in case they have questions about the moc
