  1. six batman sets in april... so we'll get this line together with the 2006 sets we've already seen?
  2. you're right! from time to time we get this large number of pirate sets on ebay.
  3. remember, pirate, this is a very old fortress! i wonder how these buildings would have looked in the 18th - 19th century.
  4. i would be ok with a castle like eldorado if the design would be a lot better. Let's face it, Eldorado is anything but a real castle, it's a collection of a gate, a prison, a pile of rubbish that reminds me of this structure called "tower" and a few bricks that are supposed to be a wall... sure, the white and yellow looks great...
  5. Apo's example also shows another thing: if you would replace a few white bricks by grey bricks to indicate different geology, you would at the same time compromise the beautifull design of the building, because your corner stones are already grey stones. In fact, if there's any consistency in your guideline to use different lego colors, then you'd almost be forced to replace a few corner stones by dark grey as well... in the end, i'm not sure if that would look very well.
  6. well... i am going to buy 6235 for a second time on Friday :P But even in Belgium most of the pirates sets belong to the past. i can't think of any shop that still has them, except for bricklink/ebay i should have bought the pirate ships when they were rereleased as legends! :() *sing*
  7. i've just bought my second pirate set in 16 years! i bought 6235 in 1989, i added 6245 to the list a week ago! At this rate i'll have the entire catalog in ... 200 years or so... :P i love both sets very much! lots of great parts, like cannons, monkies, pirates, officers! just doubled my collection of pirates today, 04/11/2005! i bought another 6235 and my first 1733...
  8. i think these look great! :oD now we only need to find out if this type of smaller cannons ever existed... and yes, dark grey or light grey would be better...
  9. no i haven't tried that because i didn't have enough new light grey bricks back then but i very often mix both in space ships and that works quite well. In that context, one plate in old grey could be an older component, but i think that's another discussion. In this case, age of a certain brick in a wall is not the essential reason for having another colour, it's geology... i'd like to see a granite label too. i wonder how it would look. It may be a bit too detailed for the lego world, i'm not really sure... if this works very well, then you could practically take a photo of a wall, turn it into a label, and apply it to a wall of bricks :P
  10. i mean they've never been used before. it's like the bricklink categories: you get used and new grey bricks, used bricks have been used by previous owners and new bricks are factory fresh, both in the same colors.
  11. i disagree. the only thing you need to do is to mix used grey bricks with new bricks. i've done that on several occasions and the effect is great! you still get your different shades of grey that way and they mix better than the different colours lego produces... also, a wall of a fortress doesn't have to be a Picasso, it's meant to defend a structure... in fact, you could also say that new bricks are always the wrong choice, because they reflect sunlight waaay too much... in the end, your wall isn't a wall, but a mirror... besides, from a large distance, walls of castles do look like they're build in a uniform colour... there's also the question of geography: egyptiens used sand stone because they didn't have the grey massonary, people in iraq only had clay...
  12. i voted pirates as well nice details, great sets with lots of minifigs, great images in cataloges,...
  13. all right, here are a few other questions for the admins we, humble members, worship: i can't seem to find a link back from the forum to the news page. So if you've closed the newspage after having opened the forum, there's no way to get back to the newspage; some sections of the forum seem to have this search engine to navigate you thru the website, but that doesn't work to get you back to the newspage... is it too much trouble to allow members to send pics to other members thru the PM system? now we have to use the e-mail address which is not ideal... thanks
  14. i like the tan colour for the pirate theme. it's closer to sand stone than the bright yellow bricks which are quiet unusual for a building anyway. i think Phes' pic briliantly shows how well these tan fortresses blend into the background, it gives, in any case, a better impression of the real thing than the yellow castle of so many years ago. i do hope that, if the company decides to create a new pirate theme one day, she will use these tan bricks. :oD and i also hope she will try to build fortresses like the one we've seen, but i guess, i'll already be very happy if we get a simplified version
  15. Fear not Sneffy, check out the Custom Sails thread for all your sail queries! Have you browsed all the MOCs in the Pirates (and Castle) Forum lately? There's a few different designs. Here's two threads to get you started: The barque Dodelijk Klompschoen Replica of the James Cook Sailer Endeavour If the thread goes too far off topic for too long I'll move the posts to a new thread so the discussion can continue - opposed to closing the off topic thread like some prefer to do... thanks pirate!
  16. still, not the best choice by the company, if you're asking me...
  17. just voted for the imperial flagship. looks nice
  18. Good idea, but I think the Brown and Wood detail would make the cannon look like something out of Donkey Kong! (Not that thats wrong, but in a world of Pirates, it would look funny!) If there were black barrels it may work. Some of those cannons in the link Norro provided are very cool... I especially like the silver one that has the wagon. i think they come in dark grey as well.. they are rather expensive
  19. i was wondering of what kind of materials these sails are made. would it be possible to buy some of it in a shop or so? i'm also wondering why everybody seems to be stuck with the same old design of a lego pirate ship. why don't people add a mast or another floor ... sorry if i'm going off topic with these questions, Phes :$
  20. it reminds me a bit of the drawn minifigs of the lego comic books. Perhaps this is a more modern version of such a booklet. there's also something wrong with his face. does the drawing suggest a chin? weird *wacko*
  21. Fine. Don't believe me. Thought you guys would have a little more faith in me. ;) i do know your source, j... but still...
  22. yeah... these admins have become rather mysterious in this story. not sure about all of this...
  23. but you do confirm it's flesh, not yellow, yoda?
  24. when can we expect the release of the line? Summer 2006?, probably with vikings 2006?
