  1. well... in Belgium you get redirected to a service in the UK...
  2. squid, kraken, octopus... whatever... Not sure if Kraken is also part of Viking's mythology... hm... we should ask a viking about that... unfortunately they've all gone ... their month ended a few weeks ago... :P First time i heard about it was in the comic book series I've already mentioned but i don't know if it's mythology or just part of a spook's story... anyway, i think you can build a kraken with the parts of the viking monsters... btw, where does the word "Kraken" come from? sounds dutch...
  3. hm... then you should wait for the sailbarge set from the sw line to come out, get the arms of sarlacc and use those to build your squid... however, if lego produces a set with a ship and a kraken, then we'll trade, alright? you get my kraken, i get your ship... Happy now?
  4. well... i disagree: We already have lots of monster themes, the vikings, dinos, designer sets,... I don't really see what makes these sets more creative. I would have liked a viking Long House instead of a weird fortress, i would have liked a second boat instead of a sea monster. Thank God they didn't have monsters when pirates were released! it's not difficult to be more creative with the viking line without having the monsters... The creativity of lego is in what you build with the bricks. surely you have enough decent bricks to create whatever story you want
  5. i voted for the first one: good for parts, but that's it
  6. i agree;
  7. last week i was in a toy shop thinking: "shall i just get this set or go for a star wars set?" in the end, i didn't buy either. sure, the theme sucks big time; sure, you get a weird collection of parts; sure, the sets are expensive on the other hand, if you're a pirate fan, and love to build ships, it might be a lot cheaper to buy this set then to buy a real pirate set. Or you could just go and buy parts at bricklink, however, you will then miss out on the shear fun of opening a box, looking for the instructions, assembling the model,...
  8. you're going to have to give us an example, pirate! my vote goes to the realistic option. i don't mind finding a fictional story behind it, it doesn't have to involve Nelson and Collingwood, but i think there are enough stories to be found for a realistic pirate line. "Hornblower" for instance, doesn't involve monsters,... but still is a good story... This discussion reminds me of a legendary belgian comic book series "De Rode Ridder", more or less translated as "The knight wearing red clothes". the first 20 books or so were classic stories about knights, shield-bearers, wars,... then the writer added all kinds of mythology to it, like King Arthur and Merlin. Still, the books were really great. then he pushed the series to the world of fantasy even more. he created all sorts of sf-elements, like UFO's, robots, submarines,... That ruined it for me. I just didn't recognice my classic hero anymore... I guess you're allowed to take the fantasy element for a castle theme further than for a pirate theme. Dragons, ghosts, wizzards,... they're all part of medieval mythology as long as it doesn't cross a line... I guess in a pirate line it would be allowed to have mythological monsters of the deep sea, but i think pirates against soldiers is a far more natural story for a pirate theme
  9. i don't even know there's such a thing called the "snot technique" for a wall... sure, tiles on top of a wall may have a great effect, but i'm not sure it's improving diversity...
  10. are you sure, pirate? the baseplate you're talking about is a lot cheaper at bricklink: http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?invXre...28306&invType=F
  11. i do have one, but i'll have to look for it first... where did i leave that thing again... btw, it's Count Sneffy now :P
  12. here's another weird story: castle set 6060 castle set 1584 exactly the same, one is from 1988 the other from 1989 i'm not sure if this is also a US and a european version... what i do know is that both are very expensive!
  13. there is a firefighting thing, there is a monorail, you need to get in a boat to see the pirates and you'll end up wet, you need to get down into the tumb to see the egyptian stuff. but it's all worth it!!! there are lots of shops, the pab is pretty close to the entry, so we won't have to go far... :P
  14. it sounds to me that this new show is kind of a fantasy story for kids. this avatar guy is supposed to bring four factions together to fight fire nation, or something. i guess we'll just have to wait and see...
  15. i'm guessing "studs not on top"
  16. thanks! i built it yesterday. i don't know what to think of it, tho. it is BIG! it looks extremely aggressive! i think it would look a lot better if i had these wheels, arms,... in brown but if i can't find lego cannons, then i'll have to make do with this... hm... dark grey barrels... expensive on bricklink...
  17. no i thought i just read somewhere that you had set whatever but kept it unopened... must have read it backwards :P so then, when do we get to see all these pirates, ships, fortresses in one single photo?
  18. 1) Spongebob? to be honest, i had to look that up... i'll assume this is close to duplo, not minifig world? or... let's just hope it's duplo 2) i also think we should start a revolution in the company and make SuvieD president, but only if he keeps his word :P and only if he lowers prices, and sends us, poor eb members, free lego sets, and only... 3) the sail barge... i believe we saw a proposal once on how a ucs sail barge would look like. my guess is that the real thing is going to be the exact opposite of that... but let's wait and see... 800 pieces, J said... So i'm thinking 100-150
  19. hm... i don't know of an idea book with a yellow castle except for this one... *wacko*
  20. that's a nice story pirate! you should sell the movie rights to spielberg and buy some more :P one question tho: how many sets did you actually build?
  21. usually i hate these type of plates because it's so difficult to build decent towers and castles on these, but for a pirate theme, this may be a good plate...
  22. ok, here it is:
  23. sorry for the lights, guys, but it is dark grey. i'll try and produce a decent pic in the morning...
  24. are you refering to the idea book no6000, my most favourite lego set ever? that's the book with the yellow castle: http://www.peeron.com/scans/6000-1/75 this one is from 1980 or are you refering to this: http://www.peeron.com/scans/200-4/44 as a kid, i've tried to build both, i was not very successful... i didn't have grey castles... :() *sing*
  25. ok... how 'bout this:
