Provocative art? Sick art? Art at all?
snefroe replied to Hobbes's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
well... without the message behind it, it would simply be bad taste, but i think the result (message-lego) is rather weak. i'd almost think they just created a message behind it to legitimise the work... as a work of art, if it is just that, it doesn't convince me at all. -
hm... all very difficult questions... wouldn't you be better off by selling all the parts and MF's at ebay?

i feel that most of the torsos on this thread look a bit too civilian. i wouldn't use brown or grey on a torso. Most of these people like to be noticed, so they would want bright looking colours i guess, like white, red and/or blue, some decorations if it's possible... Maybe i 'll find an example i like on BL. The white gloves is a great idea! for some reason, i don't really like the white legs. they look weird to me... i also wonder if officers are allowed to have a beard...

well actually, you can. the cannons are also on the other side of the ship. you see those red parts? that's the section you don't see on the cannons in the front of the pic.

i received a mail from lego.com last week indicating that you only have another three weeks to order the calender. After that, it will no longer be available. So if you're planning on buying this set, you'd better hurry...

hm... can you give us a drawing or so? so we can see where this room is? my first thought would be to use tiles that would allow you to take off the entire structure that is above it...

there are two masts on the longboat: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=48002 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=48005 if you attatch these parts to your mast (i'm not sure if you can, that's why i'm asking this), then how can the mast fall down? http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=2541

you think that is bad? then look at what this guy is trying to do: he's saying all the stuff at the table is lego, including two brand new ships! he even claims the two ships are extremely rare! http://cgi.benl.ebay.be/LEGO-10-KG-ZEER-GR...1QQcmdZViewItem

1) can any admin/mod please edit legomister's post? 2) there is a discussion in the lego community about the A-wing being a US exclusive. amazon.de in any case confirms that we will not see the set in germany for now... 3) the exo force is very low in price. i think lego is going to war against producers of this type of toys in 2006...

Refer to picture of mast and look at its base - SNOT going to be so easy to add parts to secure that! don't think so... the base is quite high, try placing two containers like these: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=30150 on both sides of the brick; or you can easily use 1x4 plates and bricks to fix this problem... if i were to create a moc out of this i probably wouldn't try to build a classic frigate or corvette, but a 19th century freighter or canal ship... i'll check prices in my local retailers and see what's possible... i was going to buy this tub, but thought i'd wait another year...

i think the masts are a bit out of balance with the rest of the ship. i think the first is too close to the bow, the second should be moved a bit to the back as well

1) as i indicated earlier, i did check the inventory... Sure, if you want to turn this into a great ship, you'll need lots of extra parts, that's a different story... 2) the use of grey, red and black, you cen even add brown, looks more than enough to me... 3) i'd build a pirate ship for display, not for playing, so i don't care if the mast only has 2 x 4 base. besides, you can always add parts around the base to prevend it from coming loose... be creative... i prefer btw, tan colored masts than black masts. it's supposed to be wood, after all... 4) there's another advantage: the price, only 30$, compared to the other pirate ships, that's bargain! especially based on current prices of pirate ships...

1) Pirates are still very much alive and kicking. They usually operate in the areas where they've been all these centuries: on all major trading routes in the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans. however, normally they go after freighters, smaller passenger ships, i guess. I also don't think you can call these Somalian warlords "pirates", they're just factions without any desire to become the master of the sea or anything, they just go after anything worth taking... 2) i think the difference between classic and modern pirates is how we look at it. Pirates of the past are legendary heroes, even good guys, like Pirates of the caribbean, today's pirates aren't well known at all, and basically, they're just "scum with a gun"... 3) no, lego wouldn't really produce modern pirates like that, but it wouldn't be difficult to create them yourself with all the parts they're selling. For instance, you can use the minifigs and guns of the US dinosets. 4) they've produced space pirates in the past: blacktron 1. check for instance the 1990 catalog...

Star wars sets we'd like to see
snefroe replied to Clone comander Nodra 999's topic in LEGO Star Wars
i'd like the red diplomatic ship, called Radiant, i believe... UCS, obviously and oh yes, if you don't mind, no price tag of 200+ -
great mods, yoda, even tho you didn't change the cockpit! >:( if it wasn't for the staggering price of the thing, i'd buy one myself...
-
i agree i wonder why pirate fanatics who like to build pirate ships don't buy extra mid sections at bl, for instance, to get a longer ship, instead of using these inverted slopes. they screw up the lines of the ship...
-
that's a nice deal, even tho i don't think many uk toyshops sell the airport...
-
to go back on topic after this.... weird intermezzo... are these parts printed parts or can we expect stickers? ah..; and i finally see why the hair has become such a big issue... wonder how that part looks like in the real world...
-
i'm not sure if this is "cashing in". I can imagine that the license is rather expensive...

thanks for the comments! i posted the moc here because it wasn't really meant to be a real moc, just a diorama to see if the custom cannon would "work" in a pirate scene, that's all... nope, i don't have other pirate mocs, in only have three pirates and 1 officer, so the options are kind of limited :P
-
i'd give it a 3,5 1) this ship can't be compared with minifig ships; this ship is for juniors, it's all about playing not building mocs for display, like most of us do. Pieces have to be big and simple. Very often, it's even daddy who puts it together and then the child plays with it. therefore, any comparison with the other ships is invalid. 2) i've only seen it at the lego shop in K

there's coffee? where? where? out of the way! where's the coffee?! Where is it?!! oh... it was just a question... damn! what do you guys think i'm doing right now, apart from posting, that is! like kim, 8-10 cups a day, can't live without it... think it's a bad thing for stomach and liver, but a good antidote for cancer, so it seems...
