my sister and i very often played with lego together and we always had to "imagine" her minifig was a girl... i think lego's approach is a bit conservative, but take a look at book n

"boys don't wanna play the girl" of course not! we wanna play WITH the girl! :P the lego argument is nonsense. he's refering to roll playing! i wouldn't wanna PLAY a woman/girl either, but what does that have to do with lego? surely in a boy's mind there is some room for mum, sister, aunt, grandma, even tho he doesn't want to be either one of them! There are lots of girls/women in playmobil, btw, which has exactly the same type of audience! i think this decision made by lego belongs in the category: "Strange but true"

they're not everywhere in belgium... i've only seen them in "'t Bazarke" and one of the "Bart Smit" houses...

yeah... :$ paradisia arrived when i was in my dark age so i missed out on the theme, but it was brilliant... so many small parts in non-traditional colors, the windows, minifigs... it was pretty nice... since my comeback i've only been able to find the smaller sets in the local shops... i don't know what the prices of these sets are on BL/ebay, but i guess one day...

shops! we have them in the shops. the small sets are 4.99 the robots are 14.99

i saw the model yesterday on display... it looked very big, but i was also a bit disappointed by the model... i had this uneasy feel about it, as if the plane wasn't lego but like Fisher Price models, if that's how you spell it... the plastic looked... cheap... still gonna buy it, tho

The greatest seller, Thankl you!
snefroe replied to Evil Willy's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
i hope for you it all works out, still, i would mention the trouble in your feedback. other customers may not be so lucky or patient as you are... and you have an obligation as a customer to tell these things to the BL community. that's the only way the system can work... perhaps this topic should be moved to the buy, sell, trade... forum... -
hm... i bought the two small sets today... don't tell yoda, he'll laugh at me... and tt too 8-| i must say, yoda, what an unprofessional review! it was bad! awful! terrible! you're very close to being baned for this, mister! :D you missed two things: first, the stickers: on the booklet of the uplink, they are red, in reality they are transparent. apart from that, they look good. the small green sticker for the grey tile however, is terrible! it's waaaay too small. yep, i messed it up... >:( second, the lego group messed up the inventory of the set. instead of http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=6632, they gave this: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=2825 because of that it's become impossible to build the alternate model, the model i want >:( i'm also missing a 1 x 2 grey plate for that model; you need two plates beneath the cockpit, but there's no plate left for the parts to attach the cannon to the technic liftarms...

i agree... should have waited... still, 1500 deals on two days... that's not bad at all, is it?

sure but in that case they could have gone for paradisia. i think belville is more or less a copy of "my house" kind of concepts... i also don't have the impression that it's selling very well out here... many shops don't even have them here and i've never seen any girl walking to the counter with one of these sets under her arm...

what strikes me is that the lego company is so extremely scared of the fact that other companies may have the next hype in toy world and they don't. whenever something new happens in the world of toys they seem to forget their own strength, their own product, and design something pretty close to the competitor's product. it happened with the computer games, it happened with belville, it happened with znap... and every time it failed... *wacko*

i'm a bit surprised that the lego catalog doesn't mention the change in colors at all, which seems to suggest that they still have a huge stock to last until the end of the year. or perhaps it's because hardly no one buys these sets, only true train fans do...

i'm pretty much wondering if it was a lego set at all, or just a vague recollection of something that might have happened...

the army is great, the blue wall is weird tho... as if we've suddenly landed in the classic space theme :P i think he could have reached 70$ even without all the background models...

How close? my last orders were made on Sunday, i believe 498525, 498507,...

damn! i came pretty close...

Hmm, interesting notes and suggestion. I imagined her to be a later-era privateering craft whose mission was to raid merchants and beat up on small to mid-size pirate ships. I didn't want her to be too fancy, or to use too many pieces (though in all honesty I considered coating her in 1 x 2 chrome gold tiles) ;) One of her sister ships actually has 4 small carronades on the rails of the foc'sle and quarterdeck, along with a huge mortar amidships (made with a 4 x 4 kettle). I'll post more pictures soon (I've got to be off to campus now though). that would work as well, but the idea of these ships is that they're fast, mobile, flexibel, so having a collection of classic cannons would be out of the question, i guess i would also add more ropes for the masts
-
i like the interior :oD the red colors remind me of the materials they used in palaces, parliaments,... it suggests wealth and social status... it gives a good contrast with the outside elements of the ship too... the model reminds me of the ships in the mid-late 19th century when ships are no longer floating works of art, but efficient and simple i'd still loose a cannon and build a small cannon on the railing... i guess i'd no longer see this as a war ship, but as a diplomatic ship, i think it has lots of potential for that

the black pods are part of the secret service's fleet. obviously, they are involved in all sorts of special operations, unfortunately i haven't been able to get permission to take a picture of one of them... yet... However, i expect to have a photo in about two weeks time... ;)
-
i'm sort of obsessed with these pods... whenever i see them in the shops, i just got to buy one or more... it's even worse for the moment, because they're selling the old ones for 2

thanks! i'll post more of this stuff during the week...

the second pic shows that this particular pod isn't just a test pod, it's legend! it's the third prototype of all pods ever produced! according to Star Command's Spaceship Records, it's ship 86-23002, normally refered to as "86-002". Built in 2486, first flight on 5th of June, acceptance flight by star Command a day later... a first batch of about 100 ships usually ends up in a training unit or a test unit, in this case, "number 3" was transfered to Edwards for a career as testbed with VX-1. The identification sticker also mentions the old designation for the pods: P-1A, it would only receive the legendary name "S-56A" 2 years later, when Star Command decided to reform her system of designating spacecraft... The number 1 ship (86-000) was transfered to the Air and Space Museum in 2491, the second prototype would be send to the Pima Museum, but this third prototype however, had a different fate: it crashed on 23rd of August 2487, due the engine failure. According to the records, the pod just fell down from about 750 meters high and was completely destroyed... Company Test pilot T. Williams died in the crash... this picture shows the exteral capabilities of a pod. Every pod, transport ship, maintenance pod, ... has at least four hardpoints to which one or more bars can be attached. ground crews may attach to these whatever equipement they want to, depending on the pod's mission. again it's like a computer, you plug in or unplug whatever hardware you want, the mainframe will handle it... this picture shows two attached bars with cameras, directed to the new engine. during the mission, the pod's systems and the external hardware will register everything that's happening so the analysts can process the obtained info later on and figure out if everything works the way it should...

So i've been digging into my dad's collection of pictures of pods and i found two very old and very rare photos of an orange pod. as i said earlier, these orange pods are being used to test all sorts of new systems, engines, ... not only for new pods, but also for other space/aircraft. For instance, Star Command used these pods to test the new head-up-displays for her fleet of speeders... All the test pods are stationed at Edwards Test Base, New Mexico, and i think my dad took both photos over there... i'm sorry, i can't put them in my brickshelf gallery, because star command doesn't like their craft being portayed in popular galleries on the internet. I don't want to get into any trouble with them. i may loose my special benefits, like being allowed to visit Space Stations... So i'll just post them here on EB, i guess nobody of Star Command's board is very much into lego, so they won't notice :P the first picture shows a test pod being prepared for a special mission. It has this huge engine on the left side that will probably be tested in-flight, but i don't recognice the type... sorry... I think it's an early version of the engine for the transport pod... In any case, an auxiliary power unit (the thing on the grey 4x8 plate) is standing by to power up the engine... You can still see the batteries in the background on the right side of the ship. Usually that's all it takes to power up a pod. They simply provide the pod with all the energy it needs to get started, once the ship's airborne, the integrated batteries will be charged by the engines and provide power for the rest. you can also see the wheels and the black undercarriage waiting to be used in the foreground. usually, the pilot would lift off like a modern helicopter, to about 50cm, then the ground crew would simply unplug the dark grey undercarriage and plug in the new wheeled undercarriage. the pod's systems would emmediately identify the new hardware and integrate it into the pod's mainframe. it's like pluging in a new printer or scanner into a computer. it's that simple... The black dude is walking around with the smallest type of engines for these pods. i'm not sure why, because this pod isn't upgraded yet to accept them, i guess he's confused or something... Obviousy, these smaller engines (very often refered to as "Babies") can't be used to fly a pod. they're either used to provide power to external systems, like weapons, cameras,... or to give additional power to the pod...

the guy is gone... it's not particularly useful to keep on talking about it...

:P :P :P you see? double t was right in keeping this topic open! something good came out of it, after all! :P
