  1. There are benefits to not releasing news on upcoming sets until they are immediately available for purchase: Consumers will not stop purchasing existing sets due to waiting for the upcoming release. Consumers will fallback to visiting the LEGO store or website to see what is new and may purchase something. When the set is available for sale, it can be used as a way to immediately attract consumers to the store or website and influence them buy something. I'm not sure if this supposed "building up of hype and discussion" has as much value to LEGO as we may think. Their target audience are kids and kids are not even allowed to be involved in online discussions or social media until they are in their teens (I think 13 in the US). So the people really talking about the new sets online are adults. An example is the gaming platform roblox. It's primarily for kids and is crazy popular, but few adults know about it because kids don't/can't talk about it online because they are too young and thus gaming news sites don't cover it because no one is talking about it online. Hype for a movie is different. That hype helps remind consumers to go watch the movie when it's released. It can also serve as marketing to sell related merchandise that is released earlier. The movie marketer don't really care if the hype is somehow causing you to not watch existing movies or stopped going to the theater on a whim to check out what is playing, especially if those other movies are from other studios. 2. When I was at a US Lego store for Black Friday, I noticed that the 40305 Lego Brand store was marked down from $30 to $20. I'm not sure if the price change is related to Black Friday, but perhaps they are clearing out inventory for a new version of the Lego Brand Store?
  3. I say they should just kill two birds with one stone and release something that includes a large chinese restaurant, featuring a chinese banquet and chinese new year related events. This way, it can include all the nice elements from the asia-only sets and most of us can put down our pitchforks.
  4. With the mention of the police station, I thought of Terry Pratchett's City Watch. Wouldn't it be interesting take the usual archtype building and add some discworld to it to make it more interesting? Discworld had touched upon other area such as banking and postal service. And Lego still as the Harry Potter license. There are many shops in diagon alley that can be given the creator expert touch. I think eventually the early-century americana theme will run dry and Lego will need to branch out. Or the creator team will burn out and they need fresh ideas from designers from the licensed branding teams.
  5. It's traditional to hang those signs upside down. Those signs usually mean good luck or good fortune and putting it upside-down is meant to "pour out" the goodness from the sign and into the home.
  6. FYI: this is now available for free from Barnes & Noble with $75 online LEGO purchase, nov 22 - dec 26. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/h/free-lego-harry-potter-minifigure-set
  7. Remember when they made a set showing micro-scale versions of the first few modular buildings? Now imagine these five diagon alley buildings as five separate modular building style sets. I would definitely get that! The Ninjago "modular building" ran out of material after two sets, but diagon alley is worth at least five sets!
  8. I found the website of this company that makes custom display cabinets and one of the displays looks almost like the one above. Bad news (for me) is that they are in Singapore. http://chezrich.net/home-displays/ So so jelly. Back down on earth, I see a new-ish Ikea display cabinet that seems ok for displaying/storing modulars: Hemnes glass-door cabinet Width: 47 1/4 " Depth: 14 5/8 " Height: 51 1/8 " Max load/shelf: 33 lb Width: 120 cm Depth: 37 cm Height: 130 cm Max load/shelf: 15 kg https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20363207/#/60363210 The main attraction is that it's wide, so that one can fit about 4 modulars per shelf (possibly 4.5 if you factor in the pet shop). Most other ikea display cabinets are tall and narrow, which allows for only 1-2 modulars per shelf. And it's nice that the display window is large and not cut off in the middle with a support beam. One bad thing is that while the shelves are not fixed, there are not any extra holes to adjust the height of each shelf, but this is not a hard problem to overcome.
  9. It was the PR that got me addicted to the modulars.
  10. I guess we need someplace to put the bank robbers, cookie smugglers, and <gasp> those with poor dental hygiene.
  11. I've replaced the computer with a hulking red typewriter.
  12. I agree. Just look at some the Twi'lek Star Wars figures.
  13. I'm mildly interested so far, but I don't want to get burned when some of the sets turn out to be 'con exclusives.
  14. The design of Vader's Castle is so on the nose for villian lair, it reminds me of George Lucas' naming of Elan Sleazebaggano. Shaped like his head, especially the mouth piece vents Flowing lava / volcano shape Not a tourist destination Place has history (still looking for his arms and legs?) All it needs is a big laser and trapdoors. And anyone else thinks the interior is like a Sith Spa? Meditation chamber looks like a tiny Jacuzzi Bacta bath Attendees in robes Suana / Hot Springs via lava flow
  15. A gas station won't fit the modular building layout, but a multi-story car park (attached to shopping center) could work. Perhaps with a car elevator, but that play feature seems a bit too matchbox/fisherprice.
  16. If LEGO does come out with another hotel, it would be interesting to see how they would balance out the dullness of multiple near-identical rooms with fun stuff like a story narrative and play features. I would like to see a building that was once a factory/office (or partly still is) so you can have floor-size studio apartments that you enter via a large freight elevator, a scene that is popular in movies.
  17. For just display, the interiors don't get much appreciation, but I think they make the build itself more fun, varied and interesting. There are some details that are only visible for the builder, like a mouse hole.
  18. This seems to be the most likely reason. Thanks. Update: Actually, DK puts out a lot of Marvel related books, for both the comic and movie universes. Just nothing relating to LEGO as well. https://www.dk.com/us/search/marvel
  19. IKEA needs to make more furniture that is more compatible with displaying LEGO. It seems like IKEA would often discontinue options that customers have been using make their furniture into display solutions. For example, they discontinued the glass doors for the Kallax/Expedit shelves. I think they have discontinue clear glass doors for other cabinet series or now only have the option for non-clear doors. I would like to see smaller or zero frames in their cabinet/bookshelf doors to maximize visibility. The Detolf is commonly used for display, but it can only fit one modular per shelf. I've seen hacks to connect multiple Detolfs together to form a wider cabinet, so I think IKEA should create a modular display system to officially support this. Their Billy bookcases are also commonly used because they are inexpensive and have a windowed door choice with thin frames, but the internal width is frustratingly one stud too narrow to fit three base plates.
  20. Per trailer, they hop. :) You're probably correct. I also think Finn goes into a Dark Age and abandons his bricks. And so a few years later, tons of dust and everything yellow due to sun exposure. Wasteland.
  21. OHMIGOSH! Did LEGO just introduce MAGICAL GIRLS into their universe?
  22. There better not be anything as tired and cliche as love triangles or wyldstyle getting jealous... And I'm curious how they plan to animate minidolls, since a major issue is that their legs are fused together. I guess they just hop around like gameboard pieces?
  23. It's nicely done, but not very realistic. Are there car washes where you have to back out to leave? Should have a rear exit for the car like the Fire Brigade. May work better as a repair shop. It certainly looks modular, where it looks like the top part of an old building is stacked on top of a newer structure.
  24. Going by the 2/fl walkway, does it look like the dock can be connected to either side of ninjago city or could that be for another future expansion set?
  25. It's just a baseplate and is less of a issue compared to a change to the scale of the main figure. At least you can easily retrofit earlier models with the new bases. And I see that Funko sets don't have baseplates except for their star wars ones. But with Funko, you can at least still display them unopened and in-box, and that may hide the star wars bases. I think the changing brickheadz baseplate design is just them working out issues with the new theme. Their first bump was Belle's larger baseplate. Hopefully the current design can last longer.
