  1. Actually, I prefer the updated faces. I suppose it helps tell a better narrative. But the big joke in the Detective Office set is that the wanted poster shows the classic face that all the minifigures have. And wouldn't it be funny if all the heads are dual-sided with the classic faces on one side for purists?
  2. What do you mean 'ninjago is everywhere'? It's not as if there are ninjago police, fire, and construction sets. For city-focused builders, ninjago sets have some useful design elements: More variety of city clothing (yellow-skin compatible!) and characters City-related builds The same can be said of the first LEGO movie, where we got nicely designed ice cream and sanitation vehicles and many interesting city characters. And I have incorporated the 'future' police vehicles into my city... kind of like bladerunner or minority report. Not much from the LEGO Batman movie, unless you're interested in police-related items. LEGO should use their midway license (from LEGO Dimensions, rip) and create a video arcade or put some arcade cabinets in the back room of a store. I have fond memories of visiting a local italian knick-knack shop after school to play their arcade games in the back room. Kids these days won't really know what an arcade is. Heck, they may not even know what a see-saw is. But these throwbacks should appeal to the AFOL.
  3. Not sure if this is a good strategy, but I usually buy full-price items like the modulars on VIP 2x days and use the points later for other sets when they are discounted. But sometimes LEGO may force my hand like with the detective's office, where they offered the companion flower cart set and the holidays already drained me of any non-modular sets to buy. I think that this is the only time LEGO has released a companion set to a modular building before. Didn't we at one point tried to use this set to forecast an upcoming building? Didn't work. :)
  4. In regards to the fear of a clone maker releasing a set based purely on pre-release info, has that even happened in the past? They can probably reverse engineer smaller sets based just on just photos, but a modular building would be pretty hard. Of course, I'm not counting the inside-job possibility, where the clone maker can obtain parts or even the instruction booklets from manufacturing. Too bad the price of modular buildings don't usually go down over time. At most you would time your purchase to coincide with other promotions like double points and promotional sets.
  5. There are no stickers in this set. There are six identical printed 2x2 tiles.
  6. This is why I'm going to try to get the following sets together for a water-related theme: Ninjago City, Old Fishing Store, Fun at the Beach (on a tan plate), and possibly the Ninjago Temple of Airjitzu.
  7. I saw this on the shop.lego.com: https://shop.lego.com/en-US/Ford-Mustang-GT-75871 Has anyone tried this? Is it even easier? I'm afraid it's going to melt the sticker. Or worse yet, melt clear plastic. In the US, window cleaner brings to mind Windex: According to wikipedia, it contains these fun ingredients:
  8. I took my daughter Halloween shopping today and next door is the third trus in my area. I didn't have time to go to this one yesterday and besides, it didn't show the set I wanted online as a pickup item, which I assumed meant they didn't stock it. I asked the service desk and they told me they were out of the promo item. I could have left but I just wanted to take a quick look for something. In the Lego section, I found two Ninjago promo sets and more than twenty of the jungle promo. And in the city section, I found one yellow promo set... I was like that lady in that Ikea commercial where I would be yelling at my husband to 'start the car'! I have no idea why or how it was there. And best yet, the set that I thought they didn't have in stock, was more in stock than in the other stores. So happy ending. From my experience, this final promo set seems super popular. Hope I'm wrong and I'll eventually find tons of them at clearance prices.
  9. Looks cool but seems a bit cramp (for adult hands). When I hear arcade, I think of the one's in the movie TRON, but I suppose the modern arcade is of the win-tickets type like Chucky Cheese. Are those arcade cabinets on the second floor? Not sure if I would want them exposed to the weather like that, but I suppose it almost never rains in LEGOLAND. I love the tetris mural in the back. And how do people get to the second floor?
  10. Argh, I went to two stores today and they were clear out of any bricktober sets. The first store's cashier actually came back with an aquaman lego dimensions set and as she was ringing it up, I was like "What are you doing?". And the next store only had the LEGO batman set left. I would have thought this final set was the least popular but I guess I was wrong. Another theory is that since stores get all four sets in the beginning, they probably mistakenly sold a future week's sets when they ran out of the current week's. Maybe after october, I hope they have some left-over inventory they will put on the shelves. Do they ever sell post-bricktober sets online or at least let you purchase and pick-up in store? I was really looking forward to that sailor suit.
  11. I know we hate waiting, but we should pace ourselves as this is just the start of the journey. First we have to wait for the announcement, but even after the announcement, we will still have to wait a few months before we can actually purchase it. But then I would probably wait until a 2x points day to purchase it, which means almost another whole year wait. The only exception was the Detective's Office, which had a promo flower cart set that was designed to go with the building, so I snatched that right away. And those are times when it is finally worth using your VIP points.
  12. You don't even need to get out of the house. They are selling them for that price online and of course free shipping with red card.
  13. I'm confused... Does 'release' = 'announced but can't buy'? or does 'release' = 'can buy'? Or maybe you meant when the 'press release' is released, and not when the actual set is released for sale. In that case, then November is highly possible. Anyway, I and history agrees with you that the next modular will be released on Jan 2018. It's the announcement date that is unclear. 10255 Assembly Square: announced Oct 17 2016, released for sale Jan 2017 10251 Brick Bank: announced Oct 11 2015, released for sale Jan 2016 10246 Detective's Office: announced Nov 21 2014, released for sale Jan 2015 10243 Parisian Restaurant: announced Oct 4 2013, released for sale Jan 2014 I don't even understand why LEGO announce things months before it's available for sale. If they announce something before the holiday buying season but not have it available until after, then won't people decide to buy less over the holidays because they are saving their money for the upcoming set? They should announce it and have it available for VIP purchase right away and then public purchase two weeks later.
  14. The release date of a modular building set has never been in December. It will be announced earlier, like in November, but it won't be released for a months or two after. The last four modular buildings were released in January, which is annoying since that is past the December promotions.
  15. I'm not doubting your source, but those timings are pretty standard for recent releases of the modular sets.
  16. I'm not sure if LEGO even cares about our aggravation. They started numbering their brickheadz boxes so everyone will clearly notice the gap reserved for the convention exclusives.
  17. I made an order with a back-ordered item. Then days later, I make another other with a back-ordered item and an in-stock item. Both orders have promo items. Nothing in the first order has shipped and the promo items are listed as 'in process'. The second order had the promo items shipped with the in-stock item. So at this point, it doesn't seem like LEGO will ship a box with only promo items, but perhaps it's too soon to tell.
  18. LEGO did report a decline in revenue in 2017. These larger sets do tend to stick around for about two years so people maybe holding off on purchasing them right away or focusing on smaller sets.
  19. I wonder what they will do next to make us feel bad? Release Luke and Leia at conventions and release Anakin and Padme for mainstream?
  20. I looked at the top ten priciest set from each year, via brickset, and it looks like costs went up sharply from 2015 and stayed about the same in 2016. Is there enough consumer demand (and money) to keep up? 2017 75192: Millennium Falcon: $799.99 70620: NINJAGO City: $299.99 42070: 6x6 All Terrain Tow Truck: $289.99 10255: Assembly Square: $279.99 70922: The Joker Manor: $269.99 21137: The Mountain Cave: $249.99 10257: Carousel: $199.99 71042: Silent Mary: $199.99 75144: Snowspeeder: $199.99 42069: Extreme Adventure: $179.99 total: $2,969.90 (1.37% increase from 2016) average: $296.99 2016 75159: Death Star: $499.99 71040: Disney Castle: $349.99 75827: Firehouse Headquarters: $349.99 42056: Porsche 911 GT3 RS: $299.99 42055: Bucket Wheel Excavator: $279.99 76052: Batman Classic TV Series - Batcave: $269.99 10253: Big Ben: $249.99 75098: Assault on Hoth: $249.99 21128: The Village: $199.99 42054-1: CLAAS XERION 5000 TRAC VC: $179.99 total: $2,929.90 (37.56% increase from 2015) average: $292.99 2015 76042: The SHIELD Helicarrier: $349.99 42043: Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245: $229.99 10247: Ferris Wheel: $199.99 60098: Heavy-Haul Train: $199.99 70751: Temple of Airjitzu: $199.99 71016: Kwik-E-Mart: $199.99 75060: Slave I: $199.99 75095: TIE Fighter: $199.99 60097: City Square: $189.99 10246: Detective's Office: $159.99 total: $2,129.90 (5.97% increase from 2014) average: $212.99 2014 75059: Sandcrawler: $299.99 42030: Volvo L350F Wheel Loader: $249.99 70810: MetalBeard's Sea Cow: $249.99 60052: Cargo Train: $199.99 71006: The Simpsons House: $199.99 76023: The Tumbler: $199.99 10243: Parisian Restaurant: $159.99 10241: Maersk Line Triple-E: $149.99 10244: Fairground Mixer: $149.99 60051: High-Speed Passenger Train: $149.99 total: $2,009.90 average: $200.99 If you ignore the 1st and 10th set from each year, so to ignore the Millennium Falcon Elephant in the room: 2017: total: $1,989.92 (-11.56%) 2016: total: $2,249.92 (+38.89%) 2015: total: $1,619.92 (+3.85%) 2014: total: $1,559.92 Maybe LEGO went a little overboard in 2016 and now we are exhausted in 2017?
  21. I may get this set just to replace that skateboard limo from the Palace Cinema set.
  22. I ordered a backordered item and the order included some free promo items. Will LEGO hold those promo items for me until my whole order is available? Or is it possible that by the time my order is ready to ship, they run out of my promo items?
  23. They scanned one of the dimensions packs and didn't see the offer come up. They pretty much have the computer/register determine the available offers. I didn't really push the issue so let me know if you have different results. Ultimately I had to buy regular LEGO sets to qualify. With two separate transactions, I bought enough to get two of the promos. They still had the ninjago promo from the previous week, but the system wouldn't let it be scanned under the promo. So they scanned another batman promo set but put the ninjago one in my bag.
  24. Lego Dimensions don't qualify for Toysrus' Bricktober promotions.
  25. I want to see more of that dragon! I think in the last pic, we only see its rather large head.
