Wait, if you're done with Lego, then what are you doing here? Anyway, please try deeplinking your images, it's very annoying to open a new link every time. It's a pretty good mod, I think, but would you please detail what you did? Right now it's kind of hard to tell.

I posted the following comment on the video: Although, it's from "Broken News", so that should tell you a lot about how serious these guys are. It's still an error, but understandable. Not everybody on this planet can be bothered to know what every kind of Lego tire looks like. It would only be natural for a normal parent to assume it was a Lego part, as those are very common.

I'm working on it, I'm working on it. No, seriously. Tomorrow I will be able to calculate how much power I'd need to get the bloody thing off the ground. I anticipate only 2 XL motors should do the job. I've actually picked up a remote control helicopter that flies, and it is frighteningly light. However, the motor is puny, which makes me confident in the power of the XL. Anyway, due to JunkstyleGio hijacaking my thread, I'll just have to hijack it back. The trouble is, I don't have any ideas! So, what do you, the viewers, want me to do next? (aside from making it fly. )

Well, please define "mid size". I'd just use the standard wishbones, or maybe a swing axle setup like what efferman uses. As seen here. It's a clickable thumbnail, if you need more size. You've made it really difficult, wanting suspension, drive, and steering in a small package. I wish you the best of luck.

Yet another crawler
Saberwing40k replied to Hopey's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's cool, and fast, and uses a completely different system in relation to everything else I've seen. Great job! -
So I bought 9396 as a birthday present to myself, and built it. It's a great set, but there were a couple of things that bugged me about it. Thankfully, I have a sizable collection of Technic parts, so I set to work. The modifications include the addition of lights, a motor, an external switch, door locks, a better mount for the battery box, and some work on the winch boom. But looking at it, you'd be hard pressed to see a difference between the stock model and my modded one. a close-up of the nose, showing off the new headlights. The door locks. simply lift up the red 2l liftarm, and slide back the door. Door open. the clever part about the locks is that they also prevent the doors from slamming shut. The external switch. This controls the lights and motor. I really could not think of a better place to put it, even if this location is not good for aerodynamics. The motor. Just like the official instructions for motorization. The underside. now the heli has a floor, but where does the battery go? Pull out the four stop bush pins, and pull on the black panel. Keep pulling, and the battery pack is revealed. The battery pallet. Doesn't this look better then the stock install? Another view. A detailed look at how the headlights attach. Lights out, headlights on. The inside, showing the axle the door locks are mounted on. It's an 8l axle connected to a 5l axle, which is in turn held straight by 2 3l liftarms and an axle pin. The end of the winch. the hook attaches with a stud, when not in use. How the switch attaches. And now for a little fun. Yes, the winch will lift good 'ol Splitface. Well, so much for my happy landing. (For poor Splitface, anyway.) Ah well, I couldn't include a witty caption with every picture, or a technical explanation, as it's just simple stuff. Comments and constructive criticism are always welcome. And don't worry, there will be more mods, and maybe a video, if you want. Thanks for reading!

Volkswagen Golf
Saberwing40k replied to fourlord's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Not exactly. He used 14z bevel gears, but that does not do anything other than power the fake engine, which is the only reason he can get away with that. It's a very clever little car, I like it. -
Old flagships
Saberwing40k replied to skppo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Here's the easy solution: Buy all of them! If you've got enough cash, buy them all. If not, 8868 and 8880 should be your priorities. -
Ingenious as it may be, it still works terribly, and constantly self destructs. Okaaayyy... How about another old, old project I've got to post before demolition? First, some background information. Back in January, I was working with my FIRST Robotics team (Team 2083) on our robot. We still had not decided on whether we would go with a pivot platform, in which all wheels can steer independently, or a platform with Mechanum wheels. I was for the pivot drive, and to argue my point, I built this: (Sorry for the terrible pics ) Ultimately, they did not buy my argument, but nevertheless, I had this. It has 4 XL motors for drive, and 4 M motors for steering. It was designed to be as simple as possible, and went together in a night. Controlling it was a major pain in the behind, however, as I had to manage with just regular remotes. It would have worked much better with an NXT brick, but I had no time to program. Another Pic: And a view of how it looks in LDD: I have it rendered in LDD, so if you want to make your own, I'll post that. This model is still mostly intact, so I could make a video, but only if you people want one. Thanks for looking. P.S. How could I make this thread more popular?

So, speaking of tires, does anybody know where I could find some "Sci-Fi" style tires? You know what I mean, the kind you'd find on a moon buggy or some such vehicle?

Technic Sets Scale
Saberwing40k replied to Pedro Antunes's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Good grief, don't get me started on Lego scale. It does not bother me all that much, but it is still worth discussing, but you'll want to look at the The scale thread. To reiterate, I personally don't think about it to hard, as it's all over the place, and always will be. So, just relax, it's only a toy, after all. -
1h 2013 sets
Saberwing40k replied to daniele's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's far too big. something like 8081, but white, and a Formula 1 car. On second thought, maybe that's not a good comparison. I'm thinking something like this: 8445 Indy Storm. That's what I think the new car is going to be like, but in white. -

What I'm really wondering (as I could care less about what grey they use. ) is why there are only 4 1st half sets, unless that's a mistake, and there are actually more. I'm really hoping to get another supercar, or maybe something not based on any real vehicle. -

Sooo..... What's the news? Could somebody maybe post a link to the source of this information, please? Anyway, what's the difference between grey and bley? -

Okay, thanks for considering me. But, you have a minor problem. You need at least 10 good posts in order to send private messages. I'd suggest you read the site guidelines, it will save you many a headache. -
Well, it does. The double big cylinder pump actually works very badly, and there is much self destruction. But more on that later, after I explain the little one. Here it is. It's double acting, which means that airflow is more consistent. It uses a M motor to rotate a crankshaft, which is attached to an axle, and in turn connected to a #2 axle joiner, which slides back and forth, driving the pumps. The crankshaft in another position. The underside. This whole assemblage was actually inspired by the idea depicted below. I full credit Yoshito Isogawa for coming up with the guts of the pump, so thanks to him. This also inspired the bigger pump, which works horribly. The connection to the pumps falls apart, the axle on the crankshaft comes off very easily, and said axle bends scarily when the pump is in action. This pump works in much the same way as the little one, except the pumps are supposed to directly cancel each other. It still performs terribly. Ah well, back to the drawing board. Pictures: If anything was unclear, or if you want more pics, just let me know. Thanks for reading!

This sounds cool. I'd totally make something amazing with your brick, count me in! -
@vliet: Not quite. The axle on an ETF truck is far, far more complex, and has two wheels, not one. But yeah, I was sort of inspired by that. However, rather than the complex suspension in an ETF truck, this is much simpler, and works differently. @DLuders: Yeeeaaahhhh... Not quite. I so need a better acronym. Any suggestions? Anyway, I've got a teaser of a new idea: More info and pictures will come on Monday, so stay tuned, same Lego time, same Lego channel.

My Pseudo9398 Crawler
Saberwing40k replied to Hopey's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Oh come on, it's not that bad. The hood, however, should be yellow or black, and the transitions need to be a little less abrupt. I've got to say, the gray chassis does wonders for the looks, over the red one the real one has. -

Saberwing40k replied to Hopey's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, you could always try adding another battery box and receiver. All you would need to do is turn the battery box so that is vertical rather than horizontal. From there, slide the other one in, hook up another receiver, set it to the same frequency as your existing one, and plug in two of the drive motors. That should hopefully improve performance, not sure by how much. Or, if you have some extra money and some serious patience, buy some XL or L motors. Now that the suggestions are out of the way, let me say that this is very inventive and pretty spiffy. I would have just loved to see the red, orange and yellow one! -
What, nobody likes the car? Ah well, this sure ain't no popularity contest. Anyway, here's a preview of a project I'm currently working on. The geartrain. the blue axle is for steering, and the red is for drive. This is the axle of a next-gen trial truck that currently has the project name BORAT. That would be: Big Off Road Armored Truck There is, as a matter of fact, an older version, which uses 3 live axles and has four wheel steering. It's currently buried, so pictures will come later. The new version, however, has 6 wheel independant suspension, and each wheel can turn through 360 degrees. This is just a preview, there will be a full work in progress thread, as this is very ambitious. Stay Tuned...
