AAV-12 "Anubis"
Saberwing40k replied to Saberwing40k's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Finally, an update. It's not going to be in story format, maybe next time. Before you get the pictures, you're going to need a little back story. This project started life as something I did for my speech writing class in school. It is a model of Mech I designed, based off of current and near future technology, including electromotive polymers, and carbon nanotubes. It is loosely based on a fictional class of mecha, called Arm Slaves, as seen in the anime Full Metal Panic! However, when I say loosely, I do mean loosely. Aside from similar size and capabilities, the AAv-12 shares nothing with any of the Arm Slaves in the show. It is a roughly 1:24 scale model, and would stand about 30 feet tall in real life. Sadly, the model itself cannot stand on it's own. and it has no hand held weapons to speak of. Ah well, that's for Version 2.0. Anyway, enough of my prattling. Here it is, without any armor. Now, if you're wondering why this is in the Technic forum, and not elsewhere, it's because of the fact that it is mostly made out of Technic parts, and is a detailed representation of a (potential) real world object. The legs, up close. Each knee joint has 2 friction elements, in addition to being made out of ratcheting joints. The ankles are double ball jointed, and have one friction element each. The hands, used almost completely unchanged from another lego set. Also, this counts as a close up of the hip joints, which proved to be the undoing of this model. It's not that the joints themselves are weak. Because of the fact that the legs were made to be easily removable, the connection to the torso is weak and sloppy. That, combined with the worthless torso joint and heavy topside, means that it tips over quite easily. The hand, again. The arm blades. These twin blades are the only built in weapons the AAV-12 prototype has. They are based on one from an old Bionecle set, and can deploy individually, or together. Deployed. The head. This was without a doubt the hardest part to design. As to why it has no eyes, i just could not find a way to have visible ones, and make it look right. Also in this picture is the cockpit. It can seat one Technic figure, though not very well. the two bent bars seen to either side of the neck are the motion readers, which would strap around the arms of the pilot. Another perspective of the hip joints. Only a double pin holds each leg to the torso. A gas turbine engine. This is a pair of gas turbine engines, which would power the real thing. This is only one of two sets, making for a total of four engines. The armor. This is the armor that will go around the mech. starting at the left is the tors armor, then arms, then legs. Off to the side is the back and hind waist armor. The seat of the pilot. This is where the pilot would sit. on the right are the control pedals, and on the left are the arm motion readers. Armored up. All armor except the back has been added. I kind of like the red, titanium metallic, and lime metallic coloring, but the other colors throw it off. The back. This shows the twin spinal cords, and the back of the hip joints. Engines in. The lower waist armor and the gas turbine engines have been installed. But what's the mystery device in the middle? It's actually a Lambda Driver. fuel tank, yeah, definitely not some piece of of classified technology with godlike power. All armor on. Yeah, more Bionecle parts. 3MTA3 The back of the legs. Not much to say, other than pay attention to the knee joints. Weapons. The sucktastic weapons I threw together for this thing. It was originally going to have much better weapons, but the due date came up, and this is all I had. Overall. Sadly this picture came out sideways, for some reason. The chest. An up close view of the chest armor. I really should have covered the shoulders better. Cockpit open. Inside. It's really quite snug in there. Goofing off. "Whadya want, meatbag?" Anyway, there isn't a whole lot else to say. If you want to read the whole speech, let me know and I'll edit this post to include it. Thanks for reading. -
AAV-12 "Anubis"

Yes, I am. As soon as I have acess to my computer, you'll get more pictures. For now, I've got to batten down the hatches, there's a tornado warning in my area. -
Hmmmmm.... I seriously doubt it. I mean, if they were coming out with a new one, there would have been an announcement, or something, maybe a spy photo, or toy fair presentation. what's more likely is a restock, or maybe an update, like the 2.0 one. i really doubt that Lego would just discontinue a successful product like Mindstorms just like that. But just in case, head over to TRU, they still have 'em.

Effe's MOC Corner
Saberwing40k replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It would appear that our good friend efferman found a junker 8855, and restored it with his own parts. I like it. -
Location: Kubrick UNSC Base, Earth's Moon. Time: 1944 Hours. Date: 31/5/2032 "Enter.", I said, after I heard a knock on my door. In came a young, female lieutenant. She saluted, then handed me a thick sheet of papers. "Intelligence wants you to look at this. Do you recognize this machine?",she asked. I looked at the picture, and gasped. It was very dark, but I could still make out the distinctive head shape. No doubt, it was one of my designs. "It's impossible, it can't possibly---",I trailed off. I felt a major headache coming on. "What's wrong?", asked the lieutenant. "I can't believe this. I personally destroyed the only prototype, and hid the plans. The only way they could have--",I trailed off again. It just dawned on me. The random computer glitches for the past week, it wasn't a coincidence. Someone had hacked my computer, and stolen the design. "What is it, sir?", asked the lieutenant. "It is a rebuilt AAV-12, Lieutenant Eris." "Is it dangerous?" "If they managed to work out the kinks, then yes, very. Lieutenant, inform the commanders immediately. I don't no what Tabgha is planning this time, but we'd best be ready. In addition, have Tech scan all the computers. I want to know how my plans got out, and if whoever took them left us any unpleasant surprises." She saluted, then walked back out the door. This was a really troubling development, I could tell from the magnitude of my headache..... Ha Ha, yes it is Technic, but you won't get more information until tomorrow .

Bendtsen's brick's
Saberwing40k replied to matias bendtsen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The crane is incredible, especially since you somehow got it to lift an entire 8110. -
Okay, I'm wondering something. Should I post work in progress pictures in this thread, or should I make new threads each time, or maybe a mixture of both? Anywho, here's an old project I made a long time ago. It's my second ever Trial Truck. I used to have more pictures, but my mom deleted them. It's loosely based on the chassis of Nico71's second Unimog, and the body is based on Andrea Grazi's Big Foot pickup truck.

Super Sports 8070
Saberwing40k replied to Saberwing40k's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Okay, it's update time. After an EPIC schedule slip, I finally have been able to post this. The slip was due, in part, to me reading a few too many works of Fan Fiction. If you're wondering why, It's because I can, and It's because i wish to gain inspiration for a writing piece of my own. Here's two that really stand out to me. Altered Destinies and Bring Me All Your Elderly. The first one I recommend to Anime fans, and the second one is a hilarious demolition of the gad awful movie The Last Airbender Oops, I seemed to have hijacked my own thread. Anyway, update. The transmission is now installed, but this has caused multiple problems. First and foremost is that the transmission is so low, and the car has so little ground clearance, that I can not get the steering or the AWD system to the front wheels. Also, the transmission is far too wide, and the ratios are so low that it can't be back driven, which is sort of critical. Crowkillers, if you're reading this, can I get some assistance? The front of the gearbox. Overall The underside of the gearbox. also, there are two engine choices, a supercharged straight 6, or a normally aspirated V-8. both would be mounted transversely, on the LA bracket at the front of the gearbox. Also, if you can't see the old pictures, don't panic. I'm just reorganizing the Brickshelf folder, and will have them fixed tomorrow. And there they are. There will be no updates for a while, as I need to reorganize, and I've lost interest for now. Does anybody want to see me finish this? -
Prepare to be amazed, by the Amazing MBMC137! I've been a fan of his work for a long time, and noticed that he had a lot of projects on Brickshelf. Since he's new, I decide to help him out. To get it all off the ground, we start with a Zil-136 Trial Truck. It has 3 Xl motors for propulsion, and 1m for steering. Something to note is that it actually does not have an onboard battery box, or receivers. This is somewhat odd, but not totally without precedent, as IR reception outdoors is terrible. In addition, the weight is fairly low, only 2050 grams. The underside, showing the stunningly simple drivetrain. Unlike most 6x6 trucks I've seen, this one links both the front and rear axles, so as the front left wheel rises, the rear left wheels go down. though this is not shown, this should allow for amazing suspension travel. That is why there are two old turntables on the rear axle. The original truck And a short vid. just look at all the snow on those tires. Anyway, We'll be tag teaming, with MBMC posting new stuff, and me posting old trial trucks. Oh, and I may be posting resized images later, if asked.
-
I bid you welcome. If you would, please deeplink images in the future. If you don't know how to do this, there is a tutorial somewhere on the site. just follow This link , and read up. there are also tutorials for resizing big images, which you might want to read. Oh, and with your permission, can i help you post about some of your old creations? Pretty please?

It just bothers me that lego would introduce two new motors, when they're redundant. It just really bugs me. -
2013 Speculation?
Saberwing40k replied to andythenorth's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Oh no, no blue. I'd much rather have more black, green, orange, purple, or silver parts. Speaking of silver, wouldn't it be cool if next year's flagship was a Delorean DMC-12, fully chromed? anyway, my personal wish list for next year is: 1h 2013: 9490 Mini Tow Truck, in purple (yes, purple. I've actually seen a few in that color). Think miniature 8285, with similar features. Alternate model is undecided. 9491 Mini Bucket Wheel Excavator, in black. A truly adorable, and slightly chibified little set. Functions include rotating the bucket wheel by power takeoff, moving the bucket left and right, and conveyor belts, made with old chain links in additon, the tracks would be new rubber ones. bucket wheel is new part, which includes new hollow buckets, and hubless gears. Alternate model is a bulldozer, so you can use the hubless gears and chain links elsewhere. 9492 Garbage Truck, in green and white. This model would have a claw, and a lifting bin in front. New parts include mini truck tires, and 3 x 11 panels. Alternate model is a snowplow. 9493 Hot Hatch, in some eye catching color. a little car, loosely based on Barman's design, it would have front wheel drive, a four cylinder engine, and a 6 speed gearbox, with new clutch gears in different sizes and drive rings. oh, and 2 updated Technic figs. Alternate model is 2 motorbikes. 9494 Zetros, in orange. this is fairly self explanatory, and it would use a live axle system similar to the one used by Thirdwigg in his super 8081. it would include new 3 x 11 panels, and new leafspring parts. Alternate model is airport pushback tug. 9495 Quad Bot, in lime green. a transforming quad bike, sort of like a cross between 8852 robot, and a RideBack. it would shift between a quad bike like form, and a 2 legged robot form. it would include provisions for power functions, as well as new small motor cycle wheels compatible with new rubber tracks to make big wheels. Alternate model is Ariel Atom style sports car. 9496 X Jet, in Black with yellow highlights. this model would be the first half flagship. functions would include vectored thrust engines, realistic landing gear and turbines, and an opening cockpit. this thing would have swept forward wings, sort of like an X-29, but it would not be based on that. New parts include new panels to make a better nose, and new flex system parts. Alternate model is... something, maybe a V-22 style tiltrotor? 2h 2013 9497 Mini Off Roader, in black, white, and orange. It's a mini copy of 9398. nothing much to say. Alternate is Tatra type truck like original. 9498 Drag Tractor, in maybe a mish mash of colors. would have weight bricks, and have stickers that say "redneck rocket" would look really like something made in a junkyard. Rear wheels are made from a total of 4 new truck wheels.think mini Power Puller, with similar functions. can be equipped with power functions. Alternate model is a pickup truck. 9499 City Crane, in white. Similar in function to a Terex city crane. 4 axles, and one cab. Arm would have many segments. naturally has provisions for power functions. Alternate model is road grader. 9500 DeLorean DMC-12, in chromed silver. Yeah, seriously. would include gearbox, engine, all round independent suspension, cabin and HOG steering, and the famous doors. alternate model is Back To The Future style time machine. includes instructions for adding full PF control, via motor pack. (see below for details.) In addition, there are 3 parts packs. 9487 Technic Team. A set of 3 updated Technic Figures. 9488 Light P/F pack. Includes 3 sets of lights, 1 servo, and 1 m motor. and a new mini battery too. 9489 Motor P/F pack. Includes 2 m motors, 2 Xl motors, 1 L motor, 1 servo motor, battery box, and most important, 3 new R/F receivers and remotes. So, in conclusion, we have many new parts, including: 3x11 panel small rubber tracks, and sprockets. miniature buckets. hubless gears. smaller truck tires. new clutch gears and driving rings, for more compact gearboxes. new leaf spring parts. new motor cycle wheels, compatible with above rubber tracks. new panels. updated flex system. R/F transmitters and receivers. Many new colors. Is all of the above pie in the sky? oh yeah, but at this point, that's where we're speculating. and hey, I can dream, can't I? -
2h 2012 models
Saberwing40k replied to TAFOL's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This model really reminds me of something Grohl did a while ago. Namely, the Manta: I'm not sure if this is a real design or not, as i have not been able to find a helicopter with both intermeshing rotors and a pusher prop. -
Well, I didn't see this one coming. Somehow, I knew Galidor would lose by a large margin. But zero votes? That frankly amazed me. Ah well, now all we need some Bionicle click joints.

Sadly, he's just reported here that the project has been shelved. As he puts it: NOPE First and foremost, I would like to thank everybody who supported this project, not just by voting, but also by spreading the news and getting others involved in the project. Gaining well over 5000 supporters is a tremendous achievement. But still, the Tachikoma/Arakn3 project has been shelved. The attempt to salvage the project by disconnecting it from Ghost in the Shell wasn't received very well, and to be perfectly honest, it's probably the most fair option for everybody. The Tachikoma was never intended as a Cuusoo project. Even before I put it on the web, I realised that with the connection to the source material the odds would be iffy at best. However, the video got amazingly popular, so I decided to put it up anyway. Hindsight is 20/20, of course. I'm feeling quite bummed out about the whole experience. I'm quite done with the whole Cuusoo deal. Still if you feel like giving it another shot: lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/17553 I'm quite sad about this, but he has his reasons.

Super Sports 8070
Saberwing40k replied to Saberwing40k's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yuppers, that's exactly what it's for. Nope, not at all. eventually, there will be a brace module that goes over all of those gears. the transmission should be updated later today, so stay tuned. Or not. I've got an update, but it will be saved for tomorrow. -
Super Sports 8070
Saberwing40k replied to Saberwing40k's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, not quite. I'm actually on Earth's Moon, or Luna . More precisely, I'm located within Tabgha Lunar Base. (If you get the reference, cool.) Anyway, I've got an update. I've installed the steering module, in it's completed state. the transmission, however, is neither here nor there. it's currently only half installed, and it's mounted too high. Overall: The suspension module, production version. This mod fixes the weak springs of the previous version, and is much lower overall. Sadly, the car only has about 2 mm of travel before it bottoms out. Most supercars ain't any better in that regard, though. The transmission is a creation of my own, and has a whopping 7 speeds! To my knowledge, it's the first ever in a lego creation. Unfortunatly, you can not ignore it's girth, or the fact that it's mounted much to high. It's not finished, and will be subsequently taken apart, and the frame modified to fit it in lower. The transmission gate. It's based on an idea by Zblj. Anyway, that's all for now. So, who wants moar? -

Hoolllddd on, I thought you had to be 18 to be a member, and that saying you weren't was going to get you banned. Anyway, i really could have been a lot more positive. and I'm going to edit my post accordingly.
