Unknown 6x6
Saberwing40k replied to Smyrf98's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
So, welcome to the site smyrf98. Well, I can try to help you, but I really don't have a lot to go by. Are you trying to build a 6x6 Trial Truck? If so, you probably should lose the differentials, and add portal axles. It's pretty good, and the steering system is very interesting, but it should not be directly driven from the motor. Hope any of this helps. -
What I'm really wondering is what the whole "SkyTank" logo means . So, what does it mean? Edit: I've just built the bare ejection mechanism, and it Does Not work. The mechanism holding it together is difficult to trigger, and even worse, the trigger on the seat makes it not fly very far. This is interesting, and cool to be sure, but there are better ejector seats, as Tremor(A.K.A Brickfrenzy) demonstrated in his giant A-10 Thunderbolt model. In place: Ejected: The explanation from his site: Finally, and possibly the coolest feature on the entire model, is the functioning ejection seat. The pilot's seat is pushed down against a pair of suspension springs. A bar latches onto the back of the seat. When that bar is pushed back, the seat shoots about six inches out of the plane. Read more at his site. And keep on building!

Restoring a mummy
Saberwing40k replied to mahjqa's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
200 different kinds of awesome! This is going to be me, someday.(The guy who designed it, not the mummy. ) Lego is common, versatile, and cheap. There are probably a lot more interesting uses for it. -
You spelled the name of the site wrong, and I'm not sure if they're reputable or not. And like Blakbird said, giving them money is bad form. How these guys are even getting away with this is beyond me. I'm actually debating as to whether or not we should tell Lego. Well, it looks like the knockoff makers haven't replicated some of the newest Lego parts, which explains some of the changes. The rest are explained by the fact that they just did not care. As an aside, the "Heavy Truck", and the "Firebolt Racer", are both knockoffs of the same set! 8041 gave the copyers two sets for the price of one!

Well hey howdy hey. The plagiarists are running amok! However, the orange and the blue model look new, and interesting, particularly the orange one. I'm kind of wondering if these are available in the U.S. I actually found some knockoff racers of my own, but they weren't nearly this cool. What I'm wondering is if someone could do a comparison with the original Lego versions, cause this could be a good source of good tires for off roaders, as the Lego ones are quite rare. P.S. I've done some research, and found out they're from China. And knowing this, the quality is probably either passable or terrible. Also, I've found a video from Russia, and from what I've seen, it's pretty good. (The car, I mean.)

Plagariarism at Brickfair
Saberwing40k replied to nico71's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't know if he meant harm or not, but it's still wrong that he won a prize by entering somebody else's MOC. By the look of things, this dude also plagiarized a bunch of other stuff, but this takes the cake, shoves it in a Corvette, and peels off down the street in a cloud of tire smoke with said cake in the passenger seat. -
Buying new motors
Saberwing40k replied to Tacker's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, you could do it, on paper at least. However, you'd have to turn one or both of the L motors sideways to fit in. It would be a great mod, please try it! -
Buying new motors
Saberwing40k replied to Tacker's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Speaking of power functions, has anyone else had a problem with the Power Functions page in the shop displaying prices in euros even if the region is set to the U.S.? -
2008 in 2012
Saberwing40k replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
No, it's not just you. I'm getting them too, which is odd. I think it's an error with the site,as there are other problems. Unless, and this is very, very, unlikely, TLG is bringing back those sets. Now that would be a sight to see. -
Need help with gears
Saberwing40k replied to Pat-Ard's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Okay, they have to be in line. That's going to be a bit of a problem. If you have space on either side, you can have a mechanism with a transmission drive ring, and clutch gears, sorta like this: Also, it would help a lot if you would kindly specify why it has to be in line. -
HA HA, I'M BAAAACCCCKKKK!!!!!! And I'm better than ever. Okay, nobody seems to respond to this thread , and I think I've figured out why. My first post has no pictures! Well, that's going to change very, very soon. I'll be indexing all of the stuff on this thread in the first post, and that should work better. Now, before I post my big update, I've got some bad news. My house is getting a new kitchen, which means we won't have one for the next 2-3 weeks. This also means that me and my family will be moving out of the house for 2-3 weeks, which means that I'll have severely limited access to my computer and my collection for that period of time. On top of that, my school year starts tomorrow, the 20th. , so I'll have much less free time. Joy to the MegaBlucking world. Okay, enough with the complaining. It's time for a big update! This is version 1.5 of Project BORAT, which for version 2.0 will be renamed. It's a 6x6 truck with all live axles, and it uses a pushrod system shamelessly pirated er, borrowed from efferman. The front and rearmost axles steer, and use portal hubs from the 8110 unimog. But more on that later. This thing was abandoned in this state, which is why it looks so incomplete. This picture shows the steering angle, which does not look all that impressive, but works fairly well, given how long the truck is. The suspension, in action. As a matter of fact, next to none of this is actual suspension travel, with most of it being chassis flex. Hmm, maybe I could actually use the inherent flexibility of Lego parts to my advantage...But later. And this is a closeup of the front axle, clearly showing the Bionicle joints used as a Panhard rod, borrowed from Miezel. (the rod on the front axle doesn't work all that well.) Okay, this picture is terrible. Sorry about that. It's meant to show the front substitute torque tube, which was made out of a pair of CV joint hubs. This was also not my idea, but I can't remember who came up with it originally. This picture also shows the top end of the steering system, which is not connected to a motor, or even hard mounted. It is just sort of tacked on. The rear drive mechanism, which drops down the main drive shaft, and connects it to the rear 2 axles. The steering shaft for the rear axle passes through the 16z clutch gear in the center. The rear axle. The Panhard rod back here works much better than the one in front. However, the steering back here is a really terrible design, and works poorly. a close up the pushrod mechanism. The 2nd axle. It's the most successful of the bunch! A closeup of the substitute hub. The first axle. This gives you a better idea of the steering angle it achieves. A closeup of how the hug interfaces with the axle. It uses two of these on each side. Another view of the substitute torque tube. The other end. The third axle. No description needed. ... ... The chassis, sans axles. Front. Middle. Rear. The torque tube block. ... These three pictures just show more views of the first axle. ... ... There is actually another version of the front axle, but I'm too tired to post it. Well, that's all for now. Please, oh please tell me you like this, or at least where I need to improve. Oh, and version 2.0 is still incoming.

Global variables in NQC
Saberwing40k replied to Duq's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have no idea what your problem would be, but you could try searching "Not Quite C", or "Global Variables" -

Not really, but before you do that, can you please post pictures of the existing creation? It looks pretty cool. -
Inside PFS-Large motor
Saberwing40k replied to Philo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Excellent, but is the motor bigger or the same size as the one in the M motor? and how about the planetary gears? Anyway, I salute you for opening such a rare part. -
Flagships 2000-2012
Saberwing40k replied to SheepEater's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I voted 8258,8043,8110, and 8466, as those are the ones I own. -
Oh. My. Mata Nui. Just look at the size of this thing. No, this is not mine. Zorrakh, on Brickshelf, is the creator of this wicked build. Check out his Gallery for more pictures. P.S. I actually believe him when he says it's the largest Legoformer ever.

Tumblers and a Bat!
Saberwing40k replied to mahjqa's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@Mahjqa- I hate to point this out, but the Rebrickable page for the black Tumbly has a major error. It says you need 34(!) of those large wheels, but in reality you only need 4. Just thought I'd let you know. -
Black Cat
Saberwing40k replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sorry, but I built a 7+R gearbox, and published it before you did. It was part of my 8070 Super Sports project. Sadly, it did not work all that well, so yours is better. And it comes in a great wrapper, too! -
Update time! I almost scared the crap out of myself testing the rotors. I had hooked up the rotors directly to a set of 3 coupled ungeared motors, since those go really fast. I was obviously not paying attention, as I let one of the blades run into something. Said blade went flying, but nothing broke. I really think there may actually be something to this being impossible ,but I'm still going to try.

OH HECK YES!!!!!! You supposedly can't make a lead balloon, you allegedly can't make a concrete glider, and you most certainly cannot make a Lego helicopter. Except the first two have been proven possible. You say that I'll need 1600 rpm per pound, so what if I can make the heli weigh only 1.5 or so pounds? I've actually got Xl motors to go that speed with a geartrain. And, I don't have to worry about the 1 amp battery box limit, as I will be using a train speed regulator, which has the bonus feature of outputting 12, not 9, volts. It doesn't have to fly free, but it has to get off the ground. And then fame and fortune will be mine. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At the very least, it will be funny to watch me screw up.

Okay, so I'm trying to make 9396 fly. In order to calculate how much power I'm going to need, I have tried using a lift equation, but nothing useful comes out the other end. I've most certainly done something wrong, so could I get some help with this? Or, I could always go the brute force route, but that could be potentially be damaging to many things.
