Guys, guys, we're all friends here, right? I think that it is hilariously unlikely that somebody would be able to make a model that is as detailed as this one is, in only fifteen hours. And, it's a moot point anyway, as this dude was not allowed to enter the competition anyway.

DLuders, have you lost your mind?! I'll agree with the pieces thing, but 8069 has more functions and more playability, just look: 8069: Lift boom, tip bucket, rotate rear boom, move rear boom up and down, move rear bucket, outriggers, and steering. In total there are 7 functions. 9395: Raise and lower towing fork, retract winch, steering, and (immensely inaccurate) V-4 engine. In total there are 4 functions, one of which almost doesn't count due to the fact that unlike many Technic vehicles of the past, 9395 has a solid hood, meaning that you can not see the engine when the hood is closed. I also don't like the new opaque pistons, as they take away a little bit of the magic of watching the engine move. In short, go with 8069, for three reasons: It has more functions, looks better and is more faithful to the original machine.(I'm looking at you, 9394, with your helicopter nose, and 9395 with your single back wheels and puny engine.) In addition, 8069 will soon be discontinued, so get it well you can.

well, now I know what those little bricks are for. I actually have two 9700 sets, which are meant to go with this interface. I got these when I left my elementary school, a teacher gave them to me. The ones I have don't have instructions, but I didn't really need them. It's cool stuff.

Well, I've got a wishbone system with portal axles: However, this may or may not help you, as it requires some uncommon pieces. I'd recommend going on ebay and buying a big honkin' lot of technic parts so that you have more to work with. Oh, and if you need more pictures, just click here.

The point is to put it in there for sake of accuracy. But, if you're just going for looks, you could leave it out. It's your model man, and your choice as to what goes into it, and what does not. For instance, I'm building a model of an Oshkosh PLS truck, and I'm leaving out some aspects of the drivetrain, namely the locking differentials, which to me are unimportant. If the suspension is what you want, put it in. Also, in case you need help, try looking at Sheepo's MPS. It's a complete system, in case you need suspension inspiration.

It's a great entry, but sadly against the rules, as it is pretty obviously a Unimog, and your entry can not be a real vehicle.

So, I'm kind of trying to make an Oshkosh PLS truck, and I've run into trouble with the suspension. I just can't figure out how it works. One of the brochures I've found seems to indicate that it uses walking beam axle (pendular) suspension, but in the same brochure it says the truck has a double cardon joint steering axle, which would indicate that it has independent suspension. I, however, think that the truck uses live axles, judging by the pictures I've seen. Can anybody clear this up?

It might actually be easier to build a Star Destroyer than the entire planet, as I've seen some aircraft carrier models. It would still be pretty big, just look at this pic:

Why are we getting a "shoop da woop"(sic) in the gallery? Anyway, my post with the substitute L and servo motors got deleted, so I'm reposting them. Just follow this link, then import them into your model, or save each motor as a group. Thse substitutions are useful if you are modeling in LDD, like myself. They are completely held together, so they can be moved easily .

Well, here we are. This is my latest truck, and I call it, due to the color, the Pumpkinator. All eight wheels are driven, and the front four steer. Drive is via one XL motor, geared down roughly nine to one. The axles are loosley inspired by a design from Zblj, and are very tough, except for the third axle, which has grinding gears. Suspension travel is not a whole lot, but it does the job, and is fairly compact. This truck is actually a project I was making for school, and was originally going to be an Oshkosh PLS truck, although this did not pan out due to time constraints. I built this thing in only 6 hours! Anyway, I got a good grade, which was a good thing . I may or may not make instructions, and a video. Would anybody want either of those? Anyway, on to the pictures, and some additional details. The side views, showing the roll cage (made out of 32l axles), the suboptimal location of the battery boxes, and the spare tires. The underside view, showing the drive axles, the drive motor, and the suspension setup, which is 4 link. A closeup of the rear 2 axles, showing the mechanics. The connection to the third axle is rather weak, and the gearing skips. However, it only does this on extreme slopes. The front axles. This was the hardest part to make. The steering motor. The cabin has no interior, as it was literally an eleventh hour addition. The connection from the front motor to the steering axle. The steering clutch sometimes balks, so that's goin to be redesigned. The top of the suspension, which is mostly identical for all axles. Front view with the lights on. Rear view with the lights on. The very front, but it's not actually based on any Mercedes... Suspension travel. Upper limits. Enjoy, and keep on building!

Are we looking at a hearse, or something? Anyway, pretty much the only serious MOCer's in the competition are you, me , Hrontos, and Zblj. Everyone else is either a shameless plagirist, or has a terrible design. (There are exceptions, of course. Sadly, some of the best entries will come near the end, so only the crappy, thrown together ones will have any votes.)

Uh, could we get the thread discussing leaked photos of the 42000 F1 car? sadly, I don't remember exactly what it was called, or who started it.

Well, that's a relief. I've got several entries that are just recolered versions of the standard chassis, as the moon rover is very much a risky project from a technical standpoint. Anyway, you yourself managed to run a power takeoff from one axle to power your engine, whereas to get all wheels driven, I simply duplicated an axle, with it's own drive and steering motor. I'd like to see more stuff like this, with more axles, and stuff. My rover actually includes several rare parts, and some new colors for the panels. I hope you all like it, when and if I finish it.

Oh man, I've bent the rules so far with my entry. I'm converting the chassis into a 6x6 lunar rover. It's going to be teal, black, and orange, with a few yellow caution details. However, I'm still thinking about what functions to add, whether I make a small landing platform with a scout jet, or a large, pneumatic crane. What do you think? Also, can you enter the competition more than once? I don't recall seeing anything in the rules about one entry per household, so I assume you can.

... Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. So, you can not have any new parts, nor new colors, and no actual vehicles. And you have to use the crawler chassis. I thought for sure that this would be a cool challenge, but no. Our worst fears came true. I'm still entering, but this is not what we wanted. On a somewhat related note, does anybody want my .lxf version of the chassis? It may or may not be accurate, but it would be helpful if you either don't have the crawler, or don't want to take it apart.

Very nice, very unusual. I'm just worried about your differentials, as the truck has no axle reduction. Also, why do you want to cut off your poor hamster's foot?

Well, I can certainly help with this. Just mail me all of the parts you don't need, and in return, I'll make something cool. There, problem solved.

@DLuders: I most certainly haven't given up. If I can't come up with anything else, I'll just recoler the set in teal, teal and yellow. Mmmm... Teal...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe that the challenge is only a styling exercise! The proportions of the crawler, in my opinion, are all wrong. However, I do remember something in the TechnicBricks writeup about modifying parts. This could very well mean that we could get new wheels, and there is another mention about submitting sketches, so this challenge could be pretty good yet. I've already got some pretty good.... Oh come on!. I thought that building a Halo Warthog would be a good idea, but then I remembered that Megabloks has the copyright! Frickin' Megabloks, always spoiling it for us Lego fans. However, working with the abjectly terrible proportions of the Crawler, and the less than good axle design, is going to be annoying fun .

I bought two of these, it's a nice part out set, but the design is not all that special. Another alternative, if you only want the pneumatics, is to order them from Lego Direct.
