That's probably true, although it would be cool if they included a hook as well. Both tracks are driven by the same output, it clearly has an axle going to both front sprockets, and then an 8t-24t gear combo for reduction. Also, unlike previously reported, that boom ain't 1 meter long, unless they left out some sections for display purposes.

I don't think I'm being unrealistic. I mean, 8288 had a much more realistic looking boom, in spite of the fact that it is a smaller set. Also, Technic is designed specifically for realism, in fact it is one of the core tenets of the line. The people the buy Technic are mostly the ones that would care that it does not look right. What makes this even more annoying is that 42039 underwent a dramatic revision, and this set did not. So, they clearly had the time, but decided that 42039 wasn't ugly enough. Also, I'm wondering why sets have so many pins nowadays. Is it maybe so that they can inflate the part count, and jack up the price accordingly?

They did not fix the boom!!!!!! They could completely change 42039 to make it uglier, but could not be arsed to make the boom on this thing look more realistic?!?!? Darny DARN DARN!!!!! I'm still probably getting it, so I can modify it, and add a derrick and ballast cart.

I have had that problem too. This makes me very worried, as it could mean that all metallic parts suffer from Gold/Metallic Plastic Syndrome. It's something first noticed by the Transformers fandom, where figures made out of a particular kind of metallic colored plastic started disintegrating, even with no handling. You can read more about it on TFwiki: Link. I thought for sure that Lego parts would not be vulnerable, because of the fact that they were made much later, and Lego quality standards are higher, but I may be wrong. However, there is a solution. I'm thinking about Supergluing some of my cracked liftarms back together, maybe using a toothpick to get in there, and then hold the part to restore it to full functionality.

[TC6] Razorback

Accurate? Are you basing this off of something else, or do you just mean make it look realistic? -
[MOC] [WIP] Need help - Batmobile Arkham Knight
Saberwing40k replied to BroZ's topic in LEGO Licensed
If you would like help with this, particularly the technical elements, I can help you. But first, I need to know some things. Do you want the model to be remote control, or not? Other than that, I know the scale, and stuff, so I can build a basic frame and stuff for you, and then you can do the bodywork. -
You're right, it is larger than virtually any other flagship set, and even larger than some flagships. I just hope they fix the boom...

42042 is actually based on a crawler crane that is smaller than any of the ones shown. I personally think it is based upon the Liebherr 843 crane: 42042 has the same fixed gantry, which looks a little bit out of proportion on that set, and the lattice boom is rather primitive, but it does look like the crane shown above. I am of the opinion that in some respects, this set is a step backwards over 8288, which had a moving gantry, more boom options, and better counterweight. Sadly, 42042 will probably not include any weight bricks, seeing as it has the PF battery box. By the by, when does the next toy fair start?

[TC6] Razorback
Saberwing40k replied to VKTechnic's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think it is a little APC, with a turret on top. The design sketch looks like it has a turntable right at the center, and "Razorback" sounds like the perfect name for an APC -
What should or should not be on Lego Ideas?
Saberwing40k replied to Wodanis's topic in General LEGO Discussion
i think while we're at it, there should be a limit to the number of parts you can have in your submission, as in less than 500, because that is the largest set size they will make. -
Agreed, there is no kind of crane, crawler or otherwise, that does not use string in some capacity. By the way, reeving the Lego crawler cranes is not actually that complex, no more so than reeving the hook of 42009. And, if that's too much for you, I suggest you stick with something like Juniors.

I cannot believe that 42043 costs almost as much as 42030, even though it has only 1 PF motor. The Brickset guys quote the price at 170 GBP, which equates to 255 USD, so I think there is a mistake somewhere. I'm thinking, at least in the US, it will cost roughly 230 USD, since it has 100 more parts than 42009. Also, why is it such a large part count? Or are they just adding pins to inflate the number, so that they can make the claim it is the largest set ever? I'd gladly sacrifice some of the parts count in order to get dually rear wheels.

Oh my gosh, I love those updated Blacktron torsos. I wish they'd appear in the collectible minifig series someday.

Have you actually tried watching the video? I changed some setting on Youtube, to see the site as if I was from Japan, and I was able to watch the video just fine. Also, I found out there is a way to use the music you want without copyright restrictions. Since using it in a homemade video is fair use, you can dispute the copyright restrictions, as long as you use this copyright disclaimer: "Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use." There is a Youtube video that shows how to do it: Also, Drakmin, many thanks for posting those links. the music is not quite what I'm looking for, but it should help other people.

Thank you guys. That Audio Library thing was really useful. Going by that, I'd actually be able to use this music, but it would not be playable in Japan. Is anybody on the Technic forum from Japan? Also, I think we should have a Technic Resources topic that is pinned, that would include things like building techniques, resources for modeling, and tutorials on how to take pictures and make good videos. Jim, what do you think?

MBMC137 built a Tatra with drive and steering using wheels that are roughly this size, but they are the much narrower Model Team wheels. If you were to build this, (he does have instructions in his Brickshelf gallery) all you would have to do is make the axles going to the wheels longer, and maybe work out some spacing. However, this truck uses an M motor for propulsion, and using the tires you want to use would throw off the proportions of the truck, and make it look terrible. I think something that would be easier and more in line with what you want is to make an 8x8 Rolligon. If you decide to go this route, I am throwing together a mock up, and you can use that as a starting point.

Okay, I want to include some music in a video presenting an upcoming MOC, and I am wondering some things. First, this is a video with the music I would like to use: Would I be able to use this music, or is using copyrighted stuff a bad Idea? I would think that using music like that would be fair use, but maybe not. In any event, since the artist is independent, I may be able to contact him directly, and ask permission. Do you guys think that that is needed step? Finally, what is a good place to find music that is free to use in videos?

Somebody said something about a new panel on the crane boom, is that maybe the end piece of the Arocs arm, or are they referring to the crawler crane? If that's the case, then the crawler crane in the preliminary image is very unfinished. I hope we do get a better lattice.

As promised, here are my ideas: Pneumatic cylinder bracket by Saberwing007, on Flickr It's very easy to make, and the track link can be substituted for a 3l liftarm. Here is a detailed pic: step2 by Saberwing007, on Flickr Also, i figured out a way to join two old square bottom cylinders. just take 4 of the little pins with studs, plug them onto the end of one cylinder, and insert that into the base of the other, and secure with a pair of 3L liftarms and axles. It's most certainly not a legal connection, and it is very tight, but it works.

Speaking of B model, do you think that Lego would ever do a rope excavator? The only other things I can think of would be a pipe layer, a bulldozer looking thing with a boom on one side, like so: The only other thing I can think of is a bucket wheel excavator, using the pieces from the grab as buckets.

Weird A model to B model
Saberwing40k replied to aminnich's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Not only are the models not very different, the b model has one very annoying, and baffling, flaw: No suspension in front. Not only could the designers not be arsed to design a b model which was different from the A model, they neutered one of the set's only 3 functions. There are other sets which do not really have that much of a B model, like 8110 (although it gets a pass, because of the fact that one of the things about Unimogs is that they can mount many attachments.), 9398, and pretty much every modern motorcycle set. Most glaring of all is 8288, which does not involve any deconstruction to get the b model. You just mount one jib somewhere else. Somewhat related with models that have an odd relationship between A and B models is 8109, which not only manages to have a very different kind of B model, it has a completely different color scheme. Are there any other sets that do that? -
I'm sorry to disappoint you, but the version of the crane that I've seen does not look that good, at least in terms of the boom. The boom sections are really primitive looking, and very inaccurate. The gantry is also fixed in place, which is odd for a modern crawler crane, and looks much too small. Both of these details are odd, as Lego had 8288 to go by, which was much better in both regards. I think the boom could have been loads better, especially if they introduced a long studless beam with alternating hole directions. I made a replica in LDD, and you will see what I mean: I actually fiddled with the saturation settings, and it doesn't look like dark blue, or regular blue, but some color in between, but such a color does not exist. I blame the hue settings and the lighting of the picture.

I think the front needs work. Going by what Anio said, this may be an earlier version that they used with the dealer's catalogs. Let's hope it changes. Unless of course, Lego be like,"Oh, you like how the model (42039) looks? too bad, we're making it look ugly. Oh, you don't like how this model looks? Too bad, it does not change." I'm waiting until we see the version at a toy fair to make judgements about the front end.
