I have some sequel ideas for 141, but I'd prefer to take a month or two break from hosting prior to the ever-growing gargantuan monstrosity that is the next Diana Quest. Plus, you know, sets are still an issue (though the preliminary stuff that's been done for me so far looks absolutely phenomenal ).

Sorry, guys, another crappy day for me as well; I've been checking in as much as I can, but I can't quite seem to get that solid block of time I need to post these big updates.

Arthur's hand clenches around the handle of the antlers he still hadn't drawn as Hoke presses ever closer...until the ex-Knight moves past him. For a moment, he considers putting himself between the Dragoon and their employer, but the ship shakes and Felix beats him to it. The Dragoon gratefully releases his grip, glad the situation had not come to blows. Arthur stays pointedly silent, not wanting to give Hoke any unnecessary ammunition. Glad to see I'm not the only one disturbed by his attitude, Arthur thinks to himself. He does not move to stand next to Hybros, Guffington, and Felix, but clearly his concern is the only thing stopping him. I don't want to antagonize him, especially if it'd make them targets. Miirym quickly snorts and takes to the skies, maintaining a perfect vantage point directly above the ship. She sided with Captain Elba's sentiments, and was prepared to force the fighting off-board if it came to it. "The short story," Arthur says, "is that Regret and Passion are brothers. They weren't on very good terms. There were three we were told of: Passion, Regret, and Hope. They draw their strength from that for which they are named, so they encourage such in the world. You and I both consider the Master of Regret an enemy, so believe me when I say that Passion is nothing like him." Arthur deliberately does not address her intentions towards Chauncey, trusting that the Elf was already aware of his earlier words. There was no point in making an enemy of her as well, not if she still seemed to show signs of seeing reason.

On a similar note, I'll have a few busy days this week as well (including today!), so expect a few update-less days from me as well (and feel free to move 139 forward without me, Zeph ).

I'm not the only one here who can't stop thinking "Duke Exeter", right...? EDIT: Never mind, misread something in one of the comic-con pics and confused it with LU lore. The whole aesthetic still reminds me heavily of the Sentinel faction and LU.
-
I mean, if the other party members want to stand back and let one of their party members straight-up murder another one of their party members, that's their choice. Or, they could take a stand and make Hoke have to turn on the whole party to be able to kill Arthur, kinda taking the sting out of Hoke's argument.

In an instant, all semblance of sloth is gone, as Miirym is at her feet and at Arthur's side, spewing smoke. Arthur grips his stag antlers, ready to draw the weapon if necessary but hoping it wouldn't come to that. "The last time I played with a god, I had a very different view of the world...one not too far from your own. I don't need Heroica to hide behind--if you recall, I left. I don't have the Veterans' protection--you kill me, I stay dead. So if you think I'm just some dangerous lunatic, if you want to--what was the words you used?--'stab your friends in the back', you're not going to get a better opportunity. Alone on an airship, miles above the ocean, just a handful of witnesses barely strong enough to even scratch you, let alone stop you. But if you're not intending to kill me like you're intending to kill our employer's ally, I suggest you stand the Hel down," Arthur warns intimidatingly.

"Help me out here, see if I'm understanding your philosophy right. You're saying that we shouldn't be helping people, they should just help themselves, and if they can't then to Hel with them? If that's the case, what's the point of Heroica--invincible thieves and killers for hire?"

Ezeran shoots off another ineffective spell, but Boris' healing energy quickly patches up Kheyli's damage. Glancing around at the situation, Kiri forgoes more Lichen Shielding, instead opting to strengthen the party spellcasters before her attack...which, this time, is a critical success. "Hmpf. "So, what, we're supposed to just sit back and do nothing while tyrants like Sven and bigots like Bellerai make their bids to control the world? We're supposed to sit back and do nothing when the opportunity presents itself to revive a tremendous force for good, a trusted ally and friend to Heroica who spent nearly all of his time and energy saving lives? Next you'll be telling me it was wrong to help Shanxian Ji Pei overthrow the oppressive Council of the Blue Hand, that I should have sat back and let the Council's guards slaughter her and make their own attempt to fight off her automatons. All it takes for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing. I may not be entirely good, but I cannot just sit back and do nothing, not when I see the chance to correct a tremendous injustice before me. That's always been the way I've lived my life, and that's the example I want to provide for my d--for Miirym." Miirym decides not to speak, but instead blinks her eyes slowly, making a mental note to speak with Arthur in private later.

"Over my dead body," Arthur declares, perhaps a little more loudly than he'd intended. Even Miirym lifts her head to look at the argument unfolding between the Dragoons. "You and I both know that should have been me instead of Passion. Both of us were wandering apart from a party, both of us had ties to the Sprit Pools, and both of us had forsaken the Veterans' protection. Hel, the state of mind I was in that night, Wren could have convinced me of anything. I regret that. A lot. Passion was one of the truly good people who shouldn't have died that night, so if there's even the slightest hope he can be brought back, it's certainly worth the risk."

Round 3 of the Bone Tale Boss Battle! Jinnipher Terry vs. Undead Tyrannosaur - Miss (nothing happens) Torald vs. Undead Tyrannosaur - Miss (nothing happens) >Kheyli vs. Undead Tyrannosaur - Extra Critical Hit (Undead Tyrannosaur: 5*3=15+4=19*2/2=19 damage; Jinnipher: 19/10=1 damage) >Ezeran (Wood) vs. Undead Tyrannosaur - Great Spell (Undead Tyrannosaur: 7*2=14+3=17-28=0 damage; Jinnipher: 7*2=14+3=17/10=1 damage; Ezeran: -1 Ether) >Boris heals Undead Tyrannosaur - Heal Less->Heal (Undead Tyrannosaur: 3+10=13*2=26 damage; Jinnipher: 26/10=2 health restored; Boris: -1 Ether) >Kiri uses Ether Core on self Kiri vs. Undead Tyrannosaur - Dual Special Damage (Hunger of Death - Kiri Devoured, Jinnipher freed) Mac uses Tonic on Boris Undead Tyrannosaur poisoned: -3 health Unfortunately for Terry, his own arrogance leads to little more than an elaborate miss. Toral, too, tries to trip up the Tyrannosaur, but also fails in his attempt. Kheyli makes up for both with a resounding Extra Critical Hit that even shakes Jinnipher, while Ezeran summons a similarly powerful spell...that fails to penetrate the Tyrannosaur's defenses, only injuring Jinnipher. Boris' healing, however, weakens the creature greatly, and even manages to patch up some of Jinnipher's wounds. Finally, it is Kiri's turn. She dances in close to try and get in a Weakening hit... "...oh, Hel." ...before she is devoured. Her presence forces Jinnipher free of the Tyrannosaur's entrapment, but too late to attack, as she had been passed up already in the Battle Order. Mac, somewhat at a loss for what to suggest, administers a Tonic to Boris, bolstering Bruhalv's Ether reserves. The Enemies: Undead Tyrannosaur *Immune to Bleeding and Sudden Death* *Poisoned-by-3* Type: Undead/Beast Level: 16 Defense: 28 Health: 91/160 Special: Hunger of Death – Devours the target, removing them from the battle. Heroica RPG - Unlimited Quest: Fields of Glory

FM Note: I'll run once I have an action for Siercon. -
Scroll of Stunning would basically exist purely to imbue into an Artifact for the immunity. There is such a thing as a Seth Bomb (100 Darkness-elemental damage), but IIRC it was only available from Decamon.
-
I'm of two minds on this. On one hand, as a reward for commitment to the game, it makes sense. On the other, we do really need more QMs, and the current system incentivizes that pretty well...
-
Should talk to Kiri and Sakurai, they're the ones trying to cheat the mega-loot out of the Fields.
-
This is part of why I wanted to try out some of these more experimental items on NPCs, so I can see if they're even possible to balance for PC loot in later Quests. I'll obviously keep the cost of Lichen Defense the same for the rest of this fight, but what do you think about 15-20 Ether? Would that balance it out, or does it need to go even higher? Would making it always be an arc scroll (and thus always cost Ether for ALL Ether-users in the party) help mitigate the overpoweredness if it were 15 Ether per target?

Mac looks at Jinnipher and gulps. "Nothin' against our lady knight, but somehow I can't seem to find anything encouraging nor inspiring 'bout her predicament." He glances at Boris' Tonic. "I got some o' them, want me to use them on ya instead?" QM Note: Jinnipher cannot target nor be targeted by any actions while devoured, aside from the splash damage. EDIT: For the record, this also means that she will not be healed by a roll of Miracle, in case anyone's wondering. Kiri looks at Ezeran in annoyance. "I'm standing right here, you know." She rolls her eyes. "I mean, I probably deserved that, but still."
-
OOC: Will I need to use Grand Potions on Miirym to restore her health, or is she able to rest during this journey even though I only have a bedroll for Arthur? Arthur ambles over to Guffington. "So," he asks his employer, "what do you expect we'll find in Xu?"

QM Note: Description of the elemental blades has been tweaked for clarity and for consistency with similar past items. Round 2 of the Bone Tale Boss Battle! >Jinnipher vs. Undead Tyrannosaur - Special Damage (Hunger of Death - Jinnipher: Devoured; Warlen: +1 Power oh wait...) >Terry (Wind) vs. Bone Spur B - Miss (nothing happens) >Torald vs. Bone Spur C - SHIELD (Frenzy - All enemies: no damage + Poisoned by 3; Undead Tyrannosaur: -4 SP; Jinnipher: 5+3=8/10=1 damage) Kheyli vs. Bone Spur B - Extra Critical Hit (Bone Spur B: 5*3=15+4=19 damage (KO!); Kiri's weapons dropped, remaining rewards dropped) >Ezeran (Wood) vs. Bone Spur B C - SHIELD (Magic Burst of Fire - Bone Spur C: 7+3=10 damage; Undead Tyrannosaur: 7+3=10*2=20-28=0 damage; Jinnipher: 7+3=10/10=1 damage; Ezeran: -1 Ether) >Boris heals Bone Spur C - Special Damage (Sharpened Spur - Bone Spur C: 3+10=13 damage (KO!); Boris: Special Guard!; Mac freed; Boris: -1 Ether) >Kiri picks up her weapons >Kiri uses Ether Core on Terry Mac Encourages Boris - roll of 2, success! Undead Tyrannosaur poisoned: -3 health With an arrogant flourish of her borrowed weapon, Jinnipher charges straight for the Tyrannosaur...'s open jaws. The Moon Elf drops into the beast's bony rib cage, finding herself trapped in a uniquely undignified position; it will take quite some effort to escape, especially with Torald and Ezeran launching powerful blows upon her as they attack the Tyrannosaur. Meanwhile, all business, Kheyli completes a crushing blow upon a Bone Spur, blasting it to bits and freeing the equipment snagged on it. Kiri takes a moment to reclaim her weapons. "Lady, you're a lifesaver," she says, hefting the dual staves. "Kheyli, was it? If you've got any suggestions, I'm happy to hear 'em. Otherwise, I'm going to use an Ether Core and try to attack this thing, try to Weaken and Confuse it." Boris sends forth a stream of healing power, the net effect of which weakens Mac's bone spur enough to break free of the Tyrannosaur from which it sprang. At first, it appears that the spur will spear the Cleric, but in the final moment a tiny aura appears in front of him, deflecting the blow. As the bone crumbles, Mac stands up and dusts himself off. "Thanks, Boris. Without your help, I woulda been...boned." Against all odds, the horrible pun seems to Encourage the vampire, his healing power prepared to dish out even more damage to the undead dinosaur. Well, if I can use Nostrums and Potions and such on her, I don't see why not. I mostly want to apply the health boost so that Miirym's health is even (i.e. it becomes Level +30 instead of 30+Level-1). OCD in action, I guess.
-
It said in the topic I could give the award to any of my characters, but I'll defer to WBD's decision.

As the Heroes depart the cave, Miirym likewise finds a golden treasure, though hers appears to be a statue of some kind (OOC: Henry Award). Venting some kind of inner tension, she shreds the small statue to pieces, and somehow feels healthier +1 max HP for the experience. OOC: My second Henry should be in Arthur's inventory, I haven't decided what to do with it yet. The moment Vipera has departed, Miirym alights upon the deck, curling up and pretending to sleep. Arthur isn't fooled. "You want to talk about it?" "<Not particularly.>" Arthur nods. "All right, then." Giving Miirym a comforting pat on the back, he heads toward the bow of the ship to keep watch. Miirym rolls her azure eyes at his concern, then smiles before settling down once more.
