Thanks! It's actually a prop I've had sitting in a container for a good...what, seven years now? I built it purely out of pieces I'd happened to scrape together in a PAB cup and it sort of just happened to turn out all right. Finding it again was, however, what gave me the idea of what this Quest was going to be about, though.

Arthur moves to walk near Purpearl, offering out his Opal and Garnet. "If you'd like to borrow them," he says by way of explanation.

All right. I copied WBD's usage of the scroll, so hopefully he used it right. Like I said, this should be in the FAQ; I'm personally finding the things more confusing than the Healing Staff ever was. For example, if an enemy is Immune to Fragile, does it still count as a "target" for a Scroll of Arc Frailty, or does the caster just "skip" that enemy in their casting? Can a caster deliberately exclude targets from their casting? What happens if they only have enough Ether to arc-cast against some of the enemies but not all of them? Much question. Many confusion. Very Scroll. Wao.

QM Note: Just like Sakurai, Kiri uses Marauder rolls for physical attacks and Necromancer rolls for spells and revivals. Also, to answer Torald's question from last battle: melee fighters can indeed fight from the Back Row, it just halves their attack damage. Round 1 of the Bone Tale Boss Battle! >Jinnipher receives Ignis Blade >Terry (Wind) vs. Bone Spur A - Great Spell (Bone Spur A: 10*2=20+8=28 damage; Terry: -1 Ether) >Torald lends Ignis Blade to Jinnipher Kheyli vs. Bone Spur A - SHIELD (Frenzy - Bone Spurs: 5+4=9 damage (Spur A destroyed! Kiri freed!); Undead Tyrannosaur: 5+4=9*2=18 damage) >Ezeran (Wood) vs. Bone Spur B - Great Spell (Bone Spur B: 7*2=14+3=17 damage; Ezeran: -1 Ether) Boris vs. Bone Spur C - Hit (Bone Spur C: no effect, undead) >Kiri uses Smelling Salts >Kiri arc-casts Scroll of Lichen Shielding - Success! (Terry, Boris, Ezeran, Kiri: Lichen Shielding for 3 Rounds; Kiri: -20 Ether) Undead Tyrannosaur Free Hit vs. Jinnipher: 16/2/2=4-9=0 damage Terry tries his hardest to free the party's employer, and nearly succeeds, but it is Kheyli's Frenzied attack that finally shatters her bone spur. Ezeran neatly halves the health of the second spur, while Boris, perhaps forgetting the nature of undead enemies given his own vulnerability, fails to attack with the requisite Ether-based might. Recovering quickly, Kiri sniffs some Smelling Salts and successfully shields the party's spellcasters. "If you can get my weapons loose, I've got a shot to Weaken and Confuse this thing. Should let us all pile right on, no problem." "Poison!" Mac manages to shout before having to dodge yet again. "...that's right, poison'll rip right through those bones. Guess I'll have to rethink that Fields strategy... You can still apply negative effects to your enemies, even if the attack itself deals no damage. I've learned that the hard way--this kind of undead is powerful, but not exactly the sturdiest summon around." The Enemies: Undead Tyrannosaur *Immune to Bleeding and Sudden Death* Type: Undead/Beast Level: 16 Defense: 32 Health: 142/160 Special: Hunger of Death – Devours the target, removing them from the battle. The devoured target is returned after the end of the next Round or when a new target is devoured; while devoured, the target takes 10% of all damage dealt to the Undead Tyrannosaur. Drops: Ancient Bone Fragments Note: Fragile Bones - The Undead Tyrannosaur loses 4 Defense for each non-elemental strike dealt. This number can go negative, adding damage to all damaging attacks dealt against the Undead Tyrannosaur. Bone Spur B *Permanently Slowed* *Immune to Bleeding and Sudden Death* Type: Undead Level: 0 Health: 4/30 Special: Sharpened Spur - The Hero misjudges their attack, landing a Hit but getting speared on the spur and beginning to Bleed by 2. Drops: Kiri's Weapons (suitable for Kiri only), Kiri's Remaining Rewards Note: Uses Special for rolls of Damage as well as Special Damage. Bone Spur C *Permanently Slowed* *Immune to Bleeding and Sudden Death* Type: Undead Level: 0 Health: 21/30 Special: Sharpened Spur - The Hero misjudges their attack, landing a Hit but getting speared on the spur and beginning to Bleed by 2. I think we need to add the arc scroll rules to the FAQ. I'm going to try to find the ruling again, but for the sake of expediency: I know they roll once per target, but they still cost ether per attempt, not per success, right? Okay, now I'm completely confused based on 132's use. How do arc scrolls work again?

Great, now I'm thinking of ways to subvert the concept of The Shire the way you subvert so many fairy tales. Let's see, The Shire...the Shore...the Jar'zee Shore... ...on second thought, maybe I shouldn't pursue this line of thought anymore.

Miirym lays herself down upon the cavern floor, curling her tail around nearly to her snout, which continues to exude small puffs of smoke even as she sits silently--seeming, for all her earlier bravado, a lost child in the face of Vipera's departure. Arthur, witnessing Miirym's reaction, nods and sits by his Dragon companion, crossing his legs to sit as comfortably as he can upon the rocky surface. He strokes her head gently, as a father would his restless daughter, humming a soothing that echoes in the dark. Miirym relaxes visibly, eventually allowing herself to close her eyes and succumb to the allure of slumber. Miirym perks up at Vipera's return, and in an instant is at her feet, ready to journey forth once more. She spreads her wings, flapping them experimentally to ensure their fitness for flight. Arthur, too, rises to his feet, but more slowly, clearly more exhausted than his companion. Still, he stands, and nods in agreement with Guffington. "Thank you," he says simply, bowing before he turns to leave.

Mac relaxes a bit, leaning against a nearby tree while he waits for the Heroes' decisions. Acting upon the Heroes' requests, Kiri passes out the requested half of the loot to each Hero. Current Distribution (first half): (correct me if I'm wrong) Terry: Tricorne Jinnipher: Gloves of the Aspirant Zieg-friend Boris: 200 gold Ezeran: 50 gold Torald: Tricorne Kheyli: Cultist Cap "Same here, sweetheart," she says sardonically. "The bones, then?" Kiri grabs the bones, but soon finds that sixteen bones nearly twice as big as she is are too much to handle while handing out loot. "Sheesh, how in Hel did you manage to carry...? Eh, never mind, doesn't matter. Lemme set these down real quick." Kiri walks over to the bush she had summoned, sets the bones down, then stops. "You know, I think Mac was right. These are far more bones than I was expecting you to bring back. You deserve a little extra something. Especially you, Mr. Bruhalv," she adds with a wink. "I was going to wait until after you were gone to do this, but...well, I think you'll enjoy the show." Kiri raises her staves and begins chanting in a language unknown to most of them, although Ezeran hears more than a few familiar words in the cant. The bone-white apples upon the bush begin to glow orange, as do the ancient bones atop the impromptu altar. "Yes...yes...these will do more than nicely. With this minion, I shall enter the Fields by force! The Mirage Knight will be no match for me this time! The matchless Mirage Scythe shall be mine!" "Ah...Kiri?" Mac asks nervously, his eyes flicking to the levitating bones with more than a little concern. "Yeah, yeah, the Heroes. They've made a fine friend this day, and I won't forget their help." Kiri picks up the reward bags again. "But let it be known that I pay my debts. As promised, the rest of your rewa--" Kiri is knocked back by a burst of light and power, as an enormous skeletal Tyrannosaur emerges from the assembled bones. The reward bag arcs high into the air, catching on one of the creature's numerous bone spurs. The creature's beady glowing eyes stare around, affixing themselves onto the Heroes. "AROOOOOOOOOOOOO!" "Well...that ain't good." Unfortunately for Mac... "Oh, Hel..." "AROOOOOOOOOOOOO! AROOOOOOOOOOOOO!" The skeleton stomps towards Mac, another set of bone spurs snagging the semi-conscious Kiri as it does. "Ugh...hey, what the--? Let go of me! Let GO!" Unfortunately, the creature does not appear to be responding to her commands. "Any chance of some help here, Heroes?!?" Advice for mixed-level parties: have a few enemies that use "hits" instead of HP--I really liked how they worked out with the Coelophysus in 141. They're not a replacement for normal HP by any means (case in point: Crits deal the same amount of damage as Hits and damage-dealing SHIELDs), but it does allow for a more even contribution when the party's Power is mismatched.

That's fair. I know part of my problem with the factions was that it throws many of my usual QM tactics to entice people to come on my Quests (that is, reputation) into a lurch, after the months and months of planning. Throw that on top of the overinvestment in my character (which made the event read to me at the time as a gigantic "if you're invested on both sides of this you're playing your character wrong and are going to be excluded from the rest of Heroica" when it obviously wasn't personally directed at me at all), and you've got a recipe for mass emotional overreaction. Well, Palathadric's proven he's more than capable of running battles (seriously, sir, good job ), so there's at least one never-before-seen QM who I'm certain is up to the task... Terry Universe...I would accept this reference. PMs. Nao.

Jeez, people--and you wonder why there's a shortage of Quests? The curative portion of this community has gotten really overbearing as of late, leaving fewer and fewer members of the transformative portion of the community to keep making new ideas. Heroica is a game, so by its very nature it's transformative and inherently focused on change. Is continuity important? Sure, but never at the cost of fun. Explanation of the terms "curative" and "transformative" as I'm using them here.
-
QM Note: Waiting for Boris' input, as well as decisions from him and Torald as to how many bones they'll be turning in.
-
Yes, but you won't get the gold until after Kiri has the bones.
-
QM Note: You'll get both gold and loot in the end; the number of bones traded in mainly affects how much gold you'll get (since the Quest reward is 50 gold per Ancient Bone). You do need to turn in all the bones you wish to turn in at once, however.

"You have our pay?" Kiri pauses. "...Well. This is new. I thought I was the 'grumpy' one. Your words, not mine." "Look. Kiri. We all have had a long, dangerous day, and I think I speak for everyone when I say we're looking forward to going home for some well-earned rest and relaxation. So if ya don't mind?" Kiri sighs. "Fine, fine." She reaches for the bones, but Mac snatches them away before she can take them. "Sorry, Kiri, but we've been stiffed once already today. These Heroes have gone above and beyond the call of duty, so I'll be damned if I let it happen to them again. Half up front, if you please." Kiri rolls her eyes, but produces a purse--purple, unsurprisingly--and pulls two sacks from it. "The Gold or the hats--take your pick. You'll get the other half once the bones are in my possession." She glances into the bag, then back up at the Heroes. "Hmm...I'd originally planned for only five of you...here, take these," she says, removing her own gloves and adding them to the loot sack. "Best I can do on short notice. How much Gold do I owe you, anyway?" Will each Hero choose loot or Gold? And how many Ancient Bones will each surrender to Kiri? Do it. I actually really want to see Diana interact with Annie. RE: Wolfgang: I think I might be just about as frustrated as Sandy is with everyone's perceptions--sometimes it feels like I'm the only one who "gets" how they're intended to work. If my life settles down within the next two or three months, my Quest pair should help people see a different side to them.

Arthur and Miirym follow orders. Arthur and Miirym will continue to follow Hybros' orders until further notice, even after the battle.

As stated in 141, RL is kind of kicking my ass. If anyone is available to help me run Rounds in 141, it would be most appreciated.

QM Note: As it currently stands, my real life is getting in the way of hosting. I apologize for the inconvenience and frequent delays, and to make it up to you I've decided to make all loot from this battle guaranteed, rather than rolled randomly. I will also be seeking out a substitute QM to roll the Rounds of this battle for you, so I can throw what time I have available into the story updates. Again, I am deeply sorry that my RL problems are affecting you guys. Also, double-check everything and let me know if I've screwed up anything stats-wise; I'm typing this up at about 2:00 am my time after a very long few days, so odds are I've screwed at least something up. Kheyli goes to drink a Potion, but finds that Boris has gotten there first, healing her to full health. "Ha ha ha ha ha! Such slowness of mind! They truly do not understand their trespasses, do they? Perhaps the merchant and the barbarians carry an inkling of regret, but it seems we have not denied the Master a true offering." "I find their arrogange appalling. How dare they think that the claims of their kind bear any real meaning? The spirits own all, life and land, and any place we deem worthy to tread is sacred in its own way. It is arrogance to assume that those lands untainted by your touch belong to no one, and are open for your kind to tread upon and destroy as you please." "Attribute not to malice what may be explained by ignorance. I believe they speak the truth when they say they did not know their crimes. They do not even recognize the trespasses of slaughter they visited upon the lands in which they have tread. It is truly sad that their souls of their species have grown silent to the symphony of the spirits. I shall show you my mercy, in that when we have freed your souls from the prison of mortal flesh, I will claim them unto me, to serve the symphony as my spiritual servants." Arayanita gestures grandly, causing the weather in the forest to grow Lush and verdant. Varunata shakes his head amusedly. "You are generous, sister. But I believe them to be beyond recovery. Still, I, too, shall grant them mercy: under my power, they shall never know the pain of death." The spirit turns his head to address the party. "When you die, you shall not know, and instead shall believe yourself locked in this moment of battle for all eternity, fulfilling the fate you have chosen for yourselves." The spirit looks expectantly at its brethren, awaiting their answers. Indrito is the first of the remaining two to respond. "Ha Very well, Revered One. Though I share not your opinion, I shall share your judgment. My mercy shall be this: their end shall be swift, swifter than the sting of death shall strike; no pain shall they feel as their life flashes away." "They'll get no sympathy from me. There shall be nothing left once my vengeance has burned through them." Varunata nods. "Very well. It shall be a contest of whose influence is in play when the mortals expire. May you exert your will well, brethren; our sister has already claimed an early lead." It seems the party has no choice but to... PREPARE FOR BATTLE! What denying all future reputation does is basically just segregate all Heroes from ever Questing together. We will never get to see Nerwen and Guts interact outside the Hall, unless there's another cross-Quest interaction event like Dastan or Baltarok. Sure, I suppose we as QMs could go out of our way to stop offering reputation so we can build our parties based on the interactions the characters are likely to have (which directly affects the quality and story of the Quest), but we're already suffering from a dearth of reputation rewards, and this would only make things worse. Blargh, I'm too tired to English properly. I'll try to explain my issues more clearly once I'm awake and have access to a real keyboard.

Wait, AND FUTURE?! ...I'm back to not liking the concept. Houses can go megabluck themselves.

Eurobricks topic It's trivial to copy the default Scene.sc and then rename to your model's file name and alter the lighting syntax to match whatever you need. It's also worth mentioning that Bluerender is stupidly fast (so trial and error is, in fact, a reasonable option), and you can render directly from LXF files rather than having to run a converter.
