Not to kill anyone's enthusiasm but... Isn't that different face just a clever bit of photoshopping? It's not very LEGO-like to give the queen a bad-@$$ face, is it? And the gun definitely isn't something official. So why would the rest of the pic be? * That said, with or without double-sided head, the queen's gorgeous. * Note: I could be missing a bit of official news on a double-sided head. In that case: my bad!

LEGO Doctor Who minifigs by Mr Spielbrick
Mr Spielbrick replied to Mr Spielbrick's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Wow, I almost missed my own first anniversary here. November 1, 2007 - November 1, 2008. It's been a fun year, and it looks like the second one is going to be even better. Thanks to all of you for making it so much fun here! (Goes for the whole forum really, but this thread is sort of my home base, haha.) My trip to London was great. Three and a half days of actual time to spend in the city itself. Obviously, I went shopping for Doctor Who merchandise and visited the exhibition at Earls Court. Some photos (not too many, copyright fears are keeping me back) can be seen on my Flickr page. As for my LEGO Who... Coming soon: - Martha in UNIT gear - Rose in season 4 outfit - Jack Harkness in blue shirt with... what do you call them? holdups? suspenders? - a hopefully better Donna - new Dalek design - TARDIS interior So, yeah. Lots of plans. The wait is for the parts to arrive. I expect them some time next week. How's your Sixth Doctor coming along, Hewkii? -

Sixth? Funny you should say that... I did some research on him this weekend. Rest assured though - I found his coat impossible to make with the official parts I have. So I'm looking forward to your version! And also: I'll be off to London Wednesday. Gonna be there for 4 days. Lots of Doctor Who shopping and exhibition visiting to do! Might even get a chance to see a play featuring David Tennant live. -Mustn't get too excited... Mustn't get too excited...- -

Hmm, Torchwood eh? Ianto and Owen are do-able I guess... Gwen... Difficult face, difficult hair. LEGO-wise that is, obviously the actress is beautiful! Been delving into what one might think is my favourite Doctor again. Eccleston's appearance won't stop haunting me! Yet another attempt to turn him into a minifig: I'm gonna keep messing with Eccleston until I get him right! ... Okay, that came out wrong. Re-installed the black leather jacket with the red shirt, this time putting the Cannonball Taylor (Speed Racer) face on him. Looks more individual than the other Nines, doesn't he? As for the again raging New Doctor Debate (though evidence that Tennant is staying is also strong)... Jack Davenport, anyone? -
TLC seems to be fine with different looks for the hero: look at the Batman line. I love how they actually wanted to please the fans, to the extent of making various "era" suits. That wouldn't be the problem on Who. Thing is... Doctor Who is not really known around the world. Sure, it's massive in the UK (rightly so!). Perhaps Australia and New Zealand too. But unless they make a worldwide-released movie of it (preferably directed by Who fan Peter Jackson), it's too small for TLC. Right. I can hear you thinking "What about Avatar? Or Speed Racer?" And you're absolutely right. But look at what happened with those licenses. Dropped dead, didn't they? Avatar isn't widely known (I'd venture to guess even less than Who) and the Speed Racer film was... you know. So, is there hope for an official LEGO Doctor Who line? Sure. But only if Steven Moffat can strike a deal with Tintin collaborator Peter Jackson and they turn it into the biggest friggin' Who story you can tell on film. In the meanwhile though, we can always imagine. There's my own thread for example. Brainbox, Doctor Sinister and Hewkii are Who fanatics as well (far more so than me, I've only been in on it for about a year). Why not create our own minifigs and "sets"? It's fun!

Leia with the new hair mold on Tantive IV? I don't think so, amigos. She has the classic buns in those scenes. The new hair piece looks a lot like Hoth or Endor to me. As for the crown... It's, you know, removable. So yeah. Hoth or Endor. Bring 'em on!

Yeah, Nine is really a challenge, haha. I'm never pleased with how my figs of him turn out. The torso, face and hair provide problems (that's quite a large percentage of a minifig right there: torso, face and hair!). Like you said, he misses the shaved look. But I don't know how to deal with that with official LEGO pieces. I'm open to suggestions. The jacket... Somehow it never quite fits. The Snape thing doesn't have the rugged look, the ancient jacket-with-red-shirt has too crude printing for my taste (HUGE white stripes, printings are much more subtle these days) and the Mutt jacket is too short with too light-coloured a shirt under it. Maybe if I tried the Mutt torso with the Cannonball Taylor (from Speed Racer) face...? -

That's a cool way to make a Cyberman, Hewkii! If we wanna go the easy route though, why not take these guys: It's been a while since I posted here. Let's catch up on the lost time with an extra big batch of photo's. A new Eccleston design Time to give good old Jack his iconic costume (or a stab at it, anyway) Speaking of iconic: the original Doctor, as played by William Hartnell "Sonic WHAT?" "Screwdriver!" -
Hoping for these to be prelim indeed. The German mechanic is nowhere near "COOL!" at the moment, while he really should be. Indy's semi-Shanghai suit I can live with, but please: don't use Jock's shirt for Short Round! It's just... wrong. Horribly wrong. Horribly WRONG! Anyway, why am I getting worked up? Let's just wait for the final pics (hoping these are prelim, still). Loving Umbridge's hair in blonde and the black fedora's though.

In defence of the new skull (and crossbones): it's more minifig-appropriate. Don't you all agree? The new skull is less round and the overall proportions seem to match a minifig's head. The old design was based on humans, this one seems based on the actual minifig. That said... I too kind of prefer the original. But hey, I've been living with the original for over 15 years. I've been living with the new design for about 15 HOURS. I might still warm to it.

Okay, okay, I take back my words. The new Pirates line is definitely coming and the names seem to be correct! Yay for the new pieces and prints. Looks gorgeous. Non-yay for the overal "happy mood". I would've preferred a more grim version of the Pirate world, like what was done with Castle. But that's just a personal thing. Annnnd I shouldn't forget it's a toy for kids, who are perfectly happy with bright colours and non-grim stuff. Everything taken into account: well done, TLC. I'm very curious to see where this line evolves to. And I'll be picking up, oh... say... at least 6 of them Cannon Battle sets! Perfect army builder - on the imperial side anyway. Arrrr, avast mateys! (Sorry. Had to. )
-
Willie! Short Round! German mechanic! I sooo hope these set names are true. I'd love to have those characters in minifig form. And a different Indy is always welcome. If they're movie accurate, he'd have a hairpiece instead of a hat and he'd be wearing the white suit. This looks promising!
-
Like everyone else here, I'd more than a little thrilled to see new LEGO Pirates sets! However... "Kraken Attackin"? "Brickbeard's Bounty"? Those names raise suspicion, with me at least. Wouldn't TLC avoid Kraken monsters for fear of being sued on plagiarism by Disney? (Of course Disney does not own Krakens now, but still.) And uhm... Brickbeard? Goofiest name I've heard in ages. Colour me sceptic. Official news = proof.
-
Yep, that's what I meant. As foor Indy '09, it'd be nice if TLC would give us Sallah. Because he's a great character ("You are named after the dog? Hahahaha!") and it'd give us a fleshie with a big black beard. Useful!
-
Seems like Intertoys has been a little creative. I do not recall a single character from any of the Indiana Jones films who has a red beard. And the third guy looks very James Bond, but not very LEGO Agents...
-
That is some damn good designing going on right there! Chapeau, sir. Very cool creatures indeed.
-
Lovely set. Nice collection of weapons. Cool horse-accesoires for the white knight, cool black skeletal horse on the dark knight's side. Loving the printed armours of both knights! And, as opposed to KimT apparently, I really dig the black helmet. I feel there's a Lord of the Rings-flavour to it with those curves. Well designed!
-
Very good set. Indeed the possibility to alter the knight's appearance hugely boosts the value! Very smart thinking of TLC. Got one of these so far, but if I ever do a Castle-related comic or animation, this will be the set I buy tons of.
-
This little bugger brought me back from my Dark Ages! As a movie fan, I just couldn't resist the thought of making an animation with living LEGO skeletons (I'm referring to Ray Harryhausen's work on the classic Jason and the Argonauts here). Buying the Indy sets stopped me from getting a lot more Castle sets. Though in time I added the Final Joust, the Wizard and the impulse Knight to my collection, as well as buying more unique figs (King, Princess) from expensive Castle sets off Bricklink. So yeah. Great little set. Two crownies, a skeleton and a skeletal horse, you just cannot resist that! Even if you hadn't been buying LEGO for 5 years. As far as I'm concerned, this set is One For The Ages! I love it!
-
Agreed Tanotrooper, we need new German uniforms. And some alternative Indy costumes, please. And Sallah. But oh well, the wishlist thread was another I believe. The fact Indy was a big seller so far bodes well for the licence! To distort a popular phrase: I believe in TLC.

Can anyone tell me where the news comes from that Jurassic Park IV is being made? Not to sound posh, but I tend to know about film projects that are in the works... And the last thing I heard on JP IV is from at least a year ago (and it was bad news: a script draft had been rejected). As for TLC doing JP: that would rock! The original film is my all time favourite movie. There are some very good LEGO sets to be made there! A minifig Alan Grant or John Hammond would be amazing (we NEED an Indy fedora in white, TLC!). If there will ever be a set of the kids in the jeep with the Rex trying to reach them.... JP fan heaven! So, in short: a JP LEGO line would rock my world, but where the heck is this whole "JP IV coming soon"-idea based on?
-
Any official LEGO LotR seems very unlikely. Like has been pointed out before: - there's already a fantasy "medieval" theme - most LEGO-buying kids (the main target audience: kids, don't forget that) are too young to know/have seen LotR - there have been LotR tie-ins from another blocky company; MiniMates (which ignorants will have mistaken for LEGO anyway) But hey, if TLC doesn't supply us with official LotR... Why not be creative?
-
If I'm informed correctly, TLC got sued by Hasbro over these figs. Hasbro has the rights to make action figures of Star Wars characters and these "one minifig sets" were deemed too close to "action figures". So TLC can't do this anymore with SW figs and apparently doesn't do it with their other licenses either.

Battle of the Pelennor Fields: Eowyn and Gothmog

Come to think of it, perhaps the Bib Fortuna face (from the Star Wars line) might work for Gothmog? -

Cool LotR figs! I've been working on my own collection of LotR figs, but I hadn't gotten around to Éowyn or Orks and Uruk Hai yet. Your Éowyn looks very good. Great, face, great helmet... a very Rohirrim-like armour indeed. Gothmog is the best way you can have him in Lego, I think. Well put together, sir!
